8. Jar – Stan has a wake-up call.
AU: ???
Stan couldn’t breathe.
He thought seeing the world from only a few inches tall had been amazing, and after he climbed down his bedspread to the floor, he was all set on exploring the alien landscape his bedroom had become.
Then the ground, the very air, everything began to shake. Steady vibrations rattled the floor under Stan’s feet and froze him in place. Sharp impacts on the massive shut door made him flinch, and he clapped his hands over his ears as a tremendous voice rumbled through it.
Panic rose within the teen as it sank in. Someone was looking for him, and they were enormous.
His imagination took it from there, disregarding the logic that whoever it was out there was one of Stan’s brothers, his family. Instead, Stan was paralyzed by images of giants as they’d always been portrayed in films and stories, vicious creatures who meant harm to those smaller than them.
These overwhelming fears came to a head when he saw the door open ever so slightly, and Stan jumped behind the nearest thing to hide, hardly noticing that it happened to be a discarded shoe that was now taller than he was.
Stan’s heart pounded too loudly in his ears to process what the giant was saying, but he certainly felt the wave of displaced air when the door swung open, the earth-shattering footsteps that followed. Humongous feet stomped closer and swung right past Stan’s hiding spot in only a handful of steps.
A hand shot up to cover Stan’s mouth, quieting his heavy breathing and stifling the dread-filled cries he could feel creeping up his throat. The giant’s feet were right there and Stan was completely exposed, it could notice him at any moment! He needed to find a new hiding spot, and he glanced around the corner of the shoe to find one.
If he could just made it under the dresser in the distance…
How is it that Bigfoot’s A Hoax isn’t in the BA universe, but Brothers Kept is??
Simple!
If a story has Celeste and her curse present, it’s a BA universe story.
All other stories, such as Bigfoot’s a Hoax, The Comeback Kid, Reversal of Fate… these are all written in the canon Supernatural universe with only small tweaks to the storyline, mostly in the style of a case!fic.
Dean is cursed to be tiny in Brothers Kept, the lucky duck, so it takes place in an admittedly-twisted version of the BA universe.
Meanwhile, Jacob’s size change was due to chaos spellwork when he was a giant, and the person that is responsible for his current ‘little’ issue the story ended on has yet to be revealed, and will be a big part of the sequel (which we currently only have the description written down for).
There are a few storylines that will be in the Brothers Apart multiverse yet have both brothers be full-sized (Brothers United, Brothers Chosen). We know it’s the same multiverse because there is a curse victim in the story (Oscar, Stan Baker).

With a grandiose gesture, Dean waved towards the floor near the agent’s feet. “You get to offer me a lift to the floor so we can get this party started.”

“Food Day” Contest
This year I didn’t get my energy in a row in time to do another Halloween costume contest for my shy little borrower Oscar. However! In late November there comes a time when lots of humans are inexplicably more preoccupied with food (and lots of it). Oscar doesn’t know where this “Thanksgiving” holiday comes from, but he can definitely attest that a Food Day is a Good Day.
What I’d like to see from entries is your take on Thanksgiving for the little guy. It can be art or writing, as long as it includes some indication that Thanksgiving is involved. This contest isn’t going to run for very long and is meant to be more relaxed, so submissions need not be super fancy. Don’t do an extravagant painting or a novella for it (unless you want to, I guess!).
The deadline is December 8 at 11pm Central Standard Time.
Rules
- Must include Oscar having some Thanksgiving fun. What kinds of food would he be most drawn to? That’s up to you to imagine.
- Other characters are allowed, but the submission won’t be judged based on any other characters
- Keep it clean and respectful; Thanksgiving does not mean the same thing to everyone, and it carries its own issues. That said, for many it is about family gatherings and an excuse to eat good food, and that’s the sort of feeling I’d like this contest to take inspiration from. Oscar is all about the chance for a feast!

Since it’s a short contest and it’s pretty chill, for now I have only a few prizes up for grabs. If I get a lot of entries, I can reconsider that and I’ll announce it as soon as I know.
