July 15th excerpt:

Sam stumbled to his feet, his neck craned back in an attempt to keep John’s face in sight. He nearly tripped over the edge of the handkerchief Dean was snuggled in, stepping back to look up at John’s immense height.

“You’re tall! ” Sam proclaimed, looking impressed at how high up John’s arms stretched overhead. From down on the nightstand, the giant doctor looked like he could touch the sky.

This is the cutest reaction to a giant I have ever read.

Kiddo Sam is adorable. All that little kid awe in an even tinier package.

Probably the first time in a long time that John Watson had been called tall. Aww factor overload!

Aww is right for sure! Wee Sammy is just about the cutest kiddo there could be, how will John ever survive???

Bonus excerpt:

In an instant, John’s countenance dropped from a strained grimace as he stretched to a look of utter shock. At five foot six, he’d never been described by anyone as notably tall. He’d forgotten for a moment that Sam was barely a few inches high and stood on a surface below the level of his hips. ‘Tall’ seemed like an understatement when John thought of it that way.

John gave a sheepish chuckle, lowering his arms and glancing back at Sam. The kid looked so impossibly small, sending a prickle of nerves up John’s spine. It was an unfamiliar and frankly unpleasant feeling, towering over someone like that. He was amazed Sam wasn’t afraid in the slightest. It helped put him at ease.

“Guess I am,” John conceded with a bemused smile.

July 14th excerpt:

“Tell you what,” John offered Sam a small encouraging smile. “How ‘bout some breakfast, and when your brother wakes up I’ll see what I can do to help both your burns. Sound good?”

“That sounds great!” Sam said, clambering to his feet. Realizing he didn’t have boots on, his bare feet slapping against the wood, he hurriedly grabbed his boots, slipping into his dry socks. “Whatcha got?”

July 13th excerpt:

“My back’s hurting, but that’s the same as always,” Sam dismissed. “My legs are what really hurts– we ran all day!”

“I can imagine,” John winced at the memory of jogging for exercise when he was younger and how sore that used to make him. After running for their lives, soreness was the least of these kids’ worries. “That should go away just fine with some stretching and drinking plenty of water.”

One thing did stand out to John and made his brow pinch in concern. “How long has your back been hurting you?” he asked gently, worried Sam might have some sort of condition or injury.

July 12th excerpt:

“I didn’t think you were gonna wake up so soon!” Sam said, now that someone else was up and he was allowed to talk. Only emergencies, otherwise, or their dad would get mad at him. “Wasn’t sure if Dean would wake up first but he hasn’t budged an inch.”

June 8th excerpt:

The brothers only remained up for a few more minutes. Dean did a quick check of Sam’s temperature and made sure no new injuries had cropped up during the harsh night.

Once he declared Sam as fit as he could in the dark (and Sam grew tired of Dean’s mothering), they pushed the napkin with the remains of the food to the side, both took one last drink of water to help re-hydrate after the harsh day, and then curled into the folds of the handkerchief.

June 7th excerpt:

“Dean…” Sam said under his breath, nudging his brother in the arm. “Dean!”

Groaning, Dean tried shifting away, taking part of the handkerchief with him. “Go to sleep, Sammy,” he mumbled tiredly.

June 6th excerpt:

Only one thing left to do, and that was move the boys. Here John was especially attentive, eyes locked on Sam and Dean to see if he was jostling them. He slowly nudged them across the surface of the desk and into the palm of his hand. Then he cupped his free hand under them and walked as smoothly as humanly possible. He didn’t dare wake them.

May 15th excerpt:

With his offered food carefully held in his palm, John entered his room once again. His steps were slow and smooth as he continued to heed Dean’s request. He resolutely kept to that pace when he transferred the fragment of paper plate to a relatively flat part of the handkerchief near Dean.

“Anything else you need, don’t hesitate to ask,” said John once the food was in place, backing away from the desk to finally remove his coat. In all the excitement, he hadn’t taken the time until now.

May 14th excerpt:

To hide his nerves at being so close to a human again, so soon after their grand escape from the others, Dean busied himself making sure Sam was settled, tossing part of the handkerchief over the scrawny kid’s body to keep him from catching a chill in the air. Ever since their curse had struck, those months back, Dean had discovered that the air was colder, and they had trouble staying warm.

Being shipped to London in the fall hadn’t helped, though he’d underestimated the weather earlier that day. They’d assumed they’d have time to find their way to somewhere sheltered by nightfall, and boy were they wrong.

“What now?” Dean asked.
