There will be a new character in the series that we haven’t seen before, but he won’t be the main character of @neonthewrite‘s that shows up. Nope, the Unexpected part of Brothers Unexpected is how unexpected it is who Sam ends up with as a brother.

Well, I’m not the one that actually runs the group. That group is actually by the girl that runs @ask-tinysam. I do know what happened, though.
Normally she didn’t have to worry about submissions being on topic, but there was one person submitting a lot of art that doesn’t fit into the (gt) part of supernatural gt (if you think it was you, it’s not because they don’t actually follow me). So she had to make it so submissions need to be approved. Currently she’s in school, so she doesn’t have much time to get around to running things on DA or tumblr.
I let her know your concerns!

There has been talk of involving law enforcement in a future story in the AUs, so it’s perfectly possible you will see this happening down the line! It’s which AU it happens in that’s the hard part to decide, there’s so many different possibilities to bandy about.
Also, Jacob’s stepdad is a cop. So… have fun introducing Dean to the fam. Just sayin’, Jake.

Good question – the ‘unexpected’ part has nothing to do with size. In these stories, someone is always going to end up cursed to be small. Sam, Dean Jacob have all had their moments in the AUs to shrink down. So, in this story, someone will be cursed.

It is indeed! Brothers Unexpected will be cowritten by @neonthewrite. I will handle the Winchesters and any other supernatural characters that mosey on in, and she will field her OCs. Maybe I’ll even have an OC of my own pop up one day XD

This is the type of thing that all depends on the type of fabric we’re talking about. You can take the kind of shirt I’m wearing and see right through it if you put your eye directly to it. That’s because for the most part girls wear a much thinner fabric than guys do. Now if you look at what the Winchesters wear, you’ll notice that it’s multi-layered shirts that are thick, flannel, dark fabric and the jackets as well will be bulky and stiff comparatively. So Sam might be able to see out of some of Dean’s shirts, but there’s no way he’s going to see out of them constantly.
Unless he feels like cutting himself a hole in the fabric. Then he’ll be seeing regardless.

They have not run into this situation yet, aside from with Rumsfeld. And it would all depend on the dog. Rumsfeld adopted smols as his family from the start, other dogs would not have the same reaction. The dogs might not give a damn or they might decide that someone Sam’s size is a chew toy or a baby of their own. It all depends on the pup.

At first, since the circumstances surrounding Sam’s departure from the motel are different, and we’ll find out just how different when the story airs, he sleeps on a flannel shirt of Dean’s. Down the line they do get him a small bed of his own and settle him in very similarly to what happens in BA.

Sam had a very difficult time coping at first. He woke up in a strange home with two strange people and the first thing he did was ask to see his family. When they couldn’t do that, he got very upset and tried to run away. Walt had to chase Sam all the way to a motel room he got himself stuck in with people staying there. It was only then that Sam could even begin to accept that his life had been flipped upside down and try to deal with his new situation. Dean and John were gone and they weren’t coming back.

This can be a tough one! For myself, a lot of my best parts depend on inspiration. I listen to music at work during the day, and there will be moments where I just see an entire scene in my head. I keep a notebook to the side and scribble down every bit I remember. A lot of times these drabbles turn into 2k word story parts, and that’s a lot of how I write. Completely unorganized, too. I’ll have an entire story out of order in bits and pieces at first.
The collabs I do with neon, we build off of each other’s ideas. What starts out simple will end much more complicated with fun storylines we never would have come up with on our own.
It’s true. With collaborations, stories come together a lot faster just because, when you might be having a block, your partner is there to help bring you out of it. Nightmares and I have hardly slowed down with the writing since we started working together, and it’s great!
For solo writing, I tend to do things a little differently. While I also keep a journal nearby all the time for shorter stories and scene inspirations, I usually end up writing my stories in order. I develop an outline of major points I’d like to see happen in my story, so that I don’t get into a corner that I can’t write myself out of. From there, it’s a matter of making sure everything the story needs is there. Some scenes that seem like they’ll be bigger end up shorter than 2k words (on the flipside, some small things end up at 10k words).
Word count, in my opinion, isn’t as important as content. For example, the conclusion to Hershey Kisses and Salt Lines is around 1.7k words, and yet it got the most explosive response out of any chapter in the whole story. It accomplished exactly the goal in less than two thousand words.
That said, here’s how you can expand word count: give the scene more details. And I don’t mean details that add nothing to the scene itself or take away from the flow of things. Details that put the reader right there can help with the experience while also fleshing out the scene in general. I personally specialize in sensory details and painting the picture of the world that the characters perceive. Nightmares is the queen of getting their thoughts and feelings on point. Both are valid and helpful for telling the story, and it’s ultimately up to you to decide which you’d like to focus on (or put both in there!). Once you start noticing the places where you could add to one or the other, it becomes easier and easier and before you know it you’re considering splitting one chapter into two. 😉
