Dean Rescues Sam

Timeline: 1993 (Dean is 14; Sam is 10)

(Part 1 of 4)

Dean growled, trying to get free of the wall. “You bitch,” he spat angrily. “What did you do to him?!”

The witch smirked, her long, lustrous blonde hair wafting in the air as the spell she’d hit Sam with started to die down. “You’ll soon find out,” she said with the deadly hiss of a promise. “I’m going to enjoy this.”

Her chanting started again. Struggling, Dean’s eyes went wide as her hand, clawed around the air, lifted up in preparation to hit him.

Before she could get the blast off, someone slammed against the door. It shuddered. John Winchester’s voice could be heard outside the door. “I’m coming boys!”

“Damn,” the witch snarled. “Better make this quick.” She held up the hand again, preparing the spell.

The door shattered. John barreled in, tackling the witch without taking a breath. He slammed into her, knocking her away from Dean with a shriek.

Dean hit the ground, falling straight down from where he’d been pinned up over three feet in the air. He moaned, certain he’d broken something.

The groan tapered off when his eyes landed on something right next to the battling hunter and the witch. Something small, in familiar colors. Dean almost gasped.

Sammy!

He crawled over to the prostrate from. His brother was less than four inches tall, curled up in a tiny ball and shuddering in pain. Sam’s shudders increased as Dean lifted him off of the ground. Or maybe it was his hands that were shaking.

Dean was yanked off his feet without warning, John shoving him out of the door. His fingers curled protectively around his brother. “D-dad…” he stuttered. He had no idea what to do.

“Get in the car, Dean!”

A gunshot sounded out. A shrieking laugh was heard. The witch vanished before the bullet hit her. John held the gun in front of him as he backed away.

Dean got into the front seat of the Impala, holding his tiny brother against his chest. Sam had gone motionless, slumped across his fingers. “It’s okay, Sammy. I gotcha,” he whispered even as John dove into the driver’s seat and started it up. The car screeched out of the parking lot.

“Everything will be okay, Sam. I promise.”

(Part 2 of 2)

Dean pulled the Impala up to the movie theater at half past nine. He couldn’t stop himself from sending a fleeting glance down at his pocket, where Sam had agreed to go in order to keep their final destination a surprise.

He got out of the car, eager to get a move on. The ticket for the movie had already bought online, that way Sam wouldn’t overhear Dean ordering it when they got in. It only took him a few minutes at the ticket kiosk to figure out how to print the thing, and he was now getting the hang of the newer technologies like that. Sam took every advantage he could to tease Dean about his stubborn insistence on keeping things simple, but there were certainly perks to the more modern innovations.

With the ticket in one hand, and a massive container of popcorn and a extra large soda in the other hand (along with candy shoved into an unoccupied pocket), Dean headed for the theater. He tried to ignore the look one of the women there gave him, pushing it away as best he could and sending a You better appreciate what I’m giving up look down at his chest pocket.

Once in the theater itself, he took stock of their surroundings. So far, there was just a couple sitting near the front of the rows, involved with each other so much they never even noticed him coming in.

He immediately went to the top row, finding himself a secluded spot in the corner. He covered the nearby seats with his snacks and sat with his boots stretched out as obnoxiously as he could manage on top of the seats in front of him. Rude or not, he wasn’t planning on anyone sitting nearby. That would completely ruin his idea for the night. That was why they were at one of the last showings of the night, after the movie had been out for over a month. More than once, he’d caught Sam watching the movie previews longingly when they came on, and he’d slowly realized that it was one of the only superheros that Sam actually had things in common with.

And so, movie night to see Ant Man.

The next ten minutes waiting for the previews to start was more stressful than he’d expected. Anytime someone strayed near the seats he’d taken over, they were treated his trademark glare. Not many people could stand up to it, especially if they didn’t need to. Sam was one of those rare few who was unaffected, of course, along with most of Dean’s close friends.

The movie previews started and Dean deemed it safe to bring out his brother. Sam’s peaceful relaxation in the pocket was interrupted by three fingers snaking inside to lift him out without warning. He didn’t voice a word of complaint, too distracted by the sights around him. After ten years, he wasn’t bothered by the way Dean could haul him around on a whim. They both had a deep trust of the other that no one had ever managed to break.

Not for lack of trying.

As Dean brought him over to the arm of the chair, Sam finally broke his amazed silence. “Dean, are we actually…”

“What?” Dean cut him off gruffly. “You don’t think I’d forget to bring my little brother to see Ant Man, do you? What kind of brother do you think I am?” He shook his head with a smirk, glad to see the growing smile on Sammy’s face. “Just relax and enjoy yourself. If you feel anyone looking at you, give me a nudge. I’ll take care of everything.”

He settled back into his own seat and left a hand next to Sam. Sam used it as a backrest, stretching out his legs along the armrest he was sitting on.

The movie started up, casting the entire theater into darkness. Sam jolted at first at the volume of the speakers but was too enthralled by the screen the moment it started up. He didn’t even have to ask when he wanted a kernel of popcorn, Dean already prepared to hand it off. The buttery goodness coated both of his hands. Sam wrinkled his nose as he hefted it up and found a napkin shoved in his direction, Dean’s eyes glued to the screen even as he held it out.

By the time they reached Ant Man’s first time shrinking and the sight of giant, stomping feet, Dean’s eyes were wider than Sam’s as he saw what his brother saw everyday in a larger than life screen. Sam barely even flinched at that part, more disturbed by the thought of the swarming ants.

Eventually, the salty popcorn had him digging out his tinfoil cup from his satchel, getting a drop of soda from Dean. It took Dean a few tries to manage it, eventually just using the straw to funnel a drop into the bitty cup.

No one caught sight of Sam the entire time. His shoulders only stiffened up once, the feeling of a distant gaze only lightly touching him before it settled on Dean. A woman was sizing up the older hunter with consideration in her eyes. Dean didn’t acknowledge her, merely cupping his hand so Sam was out of sight until she turned to watch the movie again.

The ending credits came on and the lights turned on. Sam slipped up Dean’s arm, hiding between his neck and the collar with the new brightness around them. Like that, they waited patiently for the ending scene as other moviegoers strolled by and left the theater.

A small voice piped up near Dean’s ear. “Not the worst idea you’ve ever had,” Sam told him.

Dean smirked and shrugged his shoulder just enough to make Sam tumble against him. “You can be jealous of my awesome ideas. We’ll have to try this one again sometime. Maybe get a slushy or something.”

Oh, and Dean is such a mother hen. He would jump right into that, just like when he started cooking real meals in the bunker and Sam was so impressed. He would have an entire line of food made for Sam’s size, and Sam would just try to point out that he made way, way too much for a guy four inches tall.

End with Dean snacking on his teeny bite sized pancakes since he made Sam such a huge stack.

(Part 1 of 2)

Sam ignored the rhythmic thudding that came from outside his small bedroom, trying to concentrate on the smartphone he had propped up along the wall. Dean had been getting ready for whatever he had planned for ages, and must have walked past the entrance nigh on ten times so far.

Sam swiped down on the screen, loading up the book he was reading at the moment. Words covered the page, carefully scaled down so he wasn’t trying to read from words that were the size of his hand or bigger. Technology had made his life easier than ever, even at his size.

“Sam, get a move on, we’re gonna be late!” came a grumble from outside his small nook.

Sam rolled his eyes. “You won’t even tell me where we’re going!” he shot back in reply, but he did stand and grab his well-worn satchel. It had been through hell the last ten years he’d lived with Dean, but it was still in one piece, the loving workmanship from Walt showing through in the durability of the leather and the stitching.

A shadow fell over the entrance as Dean peered in. “What’s the fun in giving away the secret?” he asked with a grin. He put a hand down on the edge of the shelf, already ahead of Sam there. “You’ll just have to wait and see!”

Sam had to hide a smirk at his giant brother’s enthusiasm. Dean almost never got worked up about anything these days, so it was a welcome change. Considering what they’d gone through the last few years, Sam couldn’t say he was surprised that his brother had started to slip a little into the clouded darkness in his mind, but Sam was determined to keep him away from the edge of despair.

Even if it meant going along with Dean’s insane plans. Whatever the hell he was up to.

He came up to the edge of the shelf, stepping onto the back of Dean’s hand and walking over the raised knuckles. A tendon flexed under his boot, and Sam had to shift his weight to avoid getting thrown off balance, something he had practice at after spending ten years with a brother almost twenty times his size. He quickly hauled himself up Dean’s flannel shirt, smirking at the fact that some things, at least, never changed.

Once Sam was settled on his shoulder, Dean swept the keys off the top of the nightstand, heading out into the night.

Timeline: During the two month stay at the motel while Sam’s arm heals

(Part 2 of 2)

Sean caught one last glimpse of Walt as the floor dropped away, the older man turning back towards the wall to go finish the work he’d left behind to get them safely out to Dean.

Walt and Christian had recently taken down a rat in the bowels of the motel. Currently, Christian was up to his elbows getting the meat jerkied before it spoilt, and Walt was tanning the hide. With that much hide to spare, he’d be able to get some new shoes made for the refugees Dean had rescued, a welcome item after losing their homes and most of their belongings. He’d already put some of his other stored hides to use making Kara a new bag to replace her small one.

Any train of thought on Sean’s mind vanished as Dean took his first step, clearing a vast amount of distance so easily. Sean clutched closer to Bree, eyes darting around in amazement at his surroundings.

Dean’s massive chest took up half of his world. The hand they were on was kept braced against that warm flannel wall, giving the passengers a solid wall to lean against if they needed it. Dean’s second hand hovered nearby, ready to catch anyone that fell or slipped off. Not that any of them would venture near the edge. Even Kara was wary of the height.

Down below, the motel room stretched away. Held this high up, the three of them were close to Sean’s original height, giving him a nostalgic air as he glanced around. His eyes shone at the memories, but there was no sadness in him.

He had a family, and they cared for him. What more did he need?

Their destination came into view after Dean turned. A huge pillow was set up in front of an expansive laptop, waiting patiently for them. Sam, already settled in the center with his broken arm still in the makeshift sling, waved at them.

“You’re holding up the movie, slowpokes!” he hollered across the distance.

Above them all, Dean snorted in amusement. A gust of air hit his hand, making Sean tighten his hold on Bree further as his hair was tousled by the giant’s breath.

“Not everyone gets the luxury of handicapped parking, pint-size. You’ll survive a few extra minutes of waiting.” The deep voice, heard from so close, was the equivalent of the rumbles of an earthquake as it shifted the tectonic plates. Even the firm hand supporting them trembled a little at the sound.

Soon enough, they were lowered to the pillow. Kara bounced off eagerly, only to fall in a pile when the plushy ground gave way underneath her feet. As Bree helped Sean off at a more sedate pace, Dean’s other hand came over, plucking Kara off the pillow and settling her squirming form right next to Sam.

While they all found their own seat on the pillow with Sam and Bree flanking the kids, Dean grabbed the popcorn and soda (and bonus Raisinets) from the table. Everyone got their very own buttery kernel, raisinet, and a bottlecap of soda (with a strict warning from Dean to let the bubbles settle; they’d learned their lesson the first time Sam had tried soda while small). Dean started up the movie with a resounding click on his laptop, his arm briefly stretching over the four small watchers on the pillow.

Thumbelina began to run on the 15" laptop screen, casting the four small viewers into their own version of a movie theater. The movie completely enthralled the girls and eventually even caught Sean’s attention. Sam and Dean shared a smile behind everyone’s backs, glad their choice had panned out. It wasn’t a movie either of them would ever have watched on their own, but considering that their family would never have the chance to do a movie night like this without Dean around, pride had been pushed aside.

As Thumbelina was being captured by Ms. Toad, Bree and Kara both clutched each other fearfully. Dean ended up stretched out behind the pillow with his arm curled protectively around it. The girls huddled between his index finger and thumb, staying in the warm cave his hand created for comfort and safety. He leaned his head on his arm, listening to Sam compare Sean to Prince Cornelius.

With his family happy and protected and completely trusting of him, Dean smiled, letting himself relax.

Hi! So I absolutely adore your story and I wanted to try my hand at making a gif of the Winchesters, so here’s my first ever attempt a gif. It was kind of hard to find a good image of Sam to make him really look like tiny!sam, but maybe I’ll come across one in the future. Anyway, thanks so much for writing such an awesome story!

I love everything about it x3 This was the best thing to wake up this morning, I just wish I hadn’t been stuck at work all day so I could get it posted. You did an amazing job with tiny!Sam, and this is fantastic for a first try. Thanks so much!

Timeline: During the two month stay at the motel while Sam’s arm heals

(Part 1 of 2)

“Are you sure the two of you can handle this?” Walt asked gruffly, musing Kara’s hair up while she waited next to him, bouncing up and down in unrestrained excitement for the night ahead.

Bree rolled her bright blue eyes. “Dad, of course we can handle this! I’ll keep an eye on the kids, and Sam will keep an eye on Dean! See? No problem.”

Before Walt could argue with her further, she silenced him with a quick kiss on the cheek. “Don’t worry, dad. Everything will be fine. Just enjoy the night off, alright?”

A shadow fell over the small family waiting near the dresser as Dean thudded over. “Sounds like you don’t trust me!” he declared jokingly as he knelt down next to them. “I’ll keep them all out of trouble, don’t you worry.”

Sean gave a gasp of fear at the sheer size of Dean looming directly overhead. He ducked behind Walt, putting his adopted father between him and the giant. A little flash of hurt flickered in Dean’s eyes before he expertly covered it up. As small as they were, Walt and Kara noticed immediately.

Kara peeked around Walt, her big grey eyes worried for her new friend. “It’s okay!” she promised loyally. “He’s really nice! And careful, and he always has yummy food!” She grabbed the older boy’s wrist, hopefully tugging at it. “Dean’s my friend, just like you!”

Sean begrudgingly let her lead him out, staring wide-eyed up at Dean.

Dean gave a friendly wave. “Hey there, champ,” he said. “Ready for the movie?”

“Y-yeah,” Sean managed hesitantly, gulping down his nerves. Walt put a hand on his shoulder, squeezing it for support. Considering Sean had only lived at his new size for under a year, he was doing really good around a human.

Dean gave him a smile, then stretched his hand out next to the small gathering. “Your chariot awaits, m’lady,” he said to Bree.

Bree grinned brightly at the old-fashioned phrasing. “Okay, c’mon guys! Dad needs to get back to his work!” She ushered the kids over to the massive palm, ignoring the steady pulse that throbbed beneath their soft-soled shoes as they stepped on. It served as a continuous reminder that they were actually standing in the hand of a massive hunter, completely in his control.

And trusting him willingly with their lives. A trust he’d earned.

Sean was the last to join them on the living platform, staring hesitantly at the massive fingers that stretched away, curling up at the end. A slight twitch in Dean’s pinkie made him jump, then Bree’s calm hand was on his shoulder.

She smiled understandingly at him as he glanced up at her. “I know he’s big,” she said in a soft voice that Dean wouldn’t be able to hear. “But he saved your life before, just like he saved mine and Sam’s. So you shouldn’t hold his size against him, alright?”

Sean nodded back, his mouth dry. He let her lift him into her arms as she stepped to the center of the palm. With everyone on, the fingers curled up around them in preparation to soar into the air.

Bree buried her head against Sean’s neck in a stage whisper, making him giggle at the way the words tickled. “Now, give him the signal for me, okay? My hands are a little full.”

Laughter tapering off, Sean lifted up his hand in a thumbs-up at Dean, smiling at the expansive face above them. His hand quickly went back to clutching her neck as Dean started to stand, the three of them lifted up into the air as though they weighed nothing.

Of course, compared to Dean they didn’t.
