He is. Things aren’t right if his family’s afraid of him, and at this point, the kids have unofficially adopted him as their own big brother. Kara would come with them everywhere if she could. He’s thrilled every time they don’t flinch away from him, and protecting them from the ‘scary’ movie made his night.

I plan to, but the right story hasn’t come along. In the meantime, I’ve drabbled out various versions of this, so you can take a peek at one of the little ideas I had in mind for it!
Seeing Sam in danger, Dean lunged for his brother, desperate to stop Sam from getting hurt or killed by the spirit when it attacked. His comparatively huge hand reached for the tiny hunter, intent on scooping him safely out of the way.
Unfortunately for them both, Sam panicked when he saw the hand grabbing at him and didn’t realize at first that it was just Dean. He flinched back, arms flailing in the air as he stumbled away. Dean didn’t have time to stop his lunge, the forward motion carrying him through. His hand brushed against the tiny body, sending Sam flying into the wall.
Sam hit the wall with a moan and collapsed into an unmoving pile.
“Sam! ”
Panicking, Dean blocked another blow from the spirit. His vision narrowed to tunnel-vision, unable to see anything but Sam, crumpled on the ground. Because of him. Because of Dean.
Oh, and Dean is such a mother hen. He would jump right into that, just like when he started cooking real meals in the bunker and Sam was so impressed. He would have an entire line of food made for Sam’s size, and Sam would just try to point out that he made way, way too much for a guy four inches tall.
End with Dean snacking on his teeny bite sized pancakes since he made Sam such a huge stack.
The thing about soda, is when it fizzes, those bubbles can cause gas. In Dean or any of us, we just burp. If Sam doesn’t let the fizz settle and drinks it really fast, that’ll hurt him a lot. Those are big bubbles, very little tummy. He got a stomach ache for the night, and Dean wouldn’t leave him alone, mostly panicking because they have no idea how medicine would affect Sam.

He can hang it right next to the Samulet for all to see! Dean would be beaming whenever he caught sight of Sam’s little carving, knowing how much work the little guy put into that tiny bit of wood.

After everything is over for the night, Sam would end up substituting in for a teddy bear cuddled against his chest. Sam can’t have Dean saying things like that; without a brother like Dean, he might not even be around anymore. They watch out for each other.
Dean does, and hopefully Sam gets better. He just needs time after everything he went through and I’m sure Dean understands that. Sam appreciates it all even when he can’t show it.
Coming up with a present for that tall brother of his will be quite a project, that’s for sure.
