( This came up once before *uses same answer* )
Actually, the size of ears plays less of a role in your ability to hear than the shape of those ears. Human ears are specifically shaped after millions of years of evolution to pick up the sound waves that are most important to us… mainly, the vibrations a human voice makes. Some people have better hearing than others, yes, but that is less dependent on their size.
So Sam might be able to hear a little better than Dean, just like it’ll be easier to deafen him by shouting, but it’s not a huge difference, and there are likely regular sized humans who might be able to hear just as good as Sam. There are a lot of people out there who can hear higher pitched tones while others can’t hear a thing.

Definitely an interesting one, anon! Had to take a stab at it.
AU: Brothers Apart
Timeline: during A Lich of Sense
She was tired. The wolf didn’t feel pain anymore from the wounds that had killed her, but she could feel fatigue. After days of wandering, things were no clearer than before.
The alpha had sent her to find something, but she didn’t really understand the mission.
She wanted to rest. She had earned it, but the alpha had other plans for her. There was no going against the alpha. Her search went on without need for food or water to rejuvenate her body. Something else held her together, keeping her dirty, matted fur and decaying muscles in the shape needed to run, to hunt. It didn’t seal the bite marks on her flanks and throat, but filled the old, stinking flesh with vigor.
Scents carried on the wind, subtle things that brought her no clues to her goal. Nothing in the rustling of the leaves brought news of the search being over at last. The alpha wanted something, needed it. And she was to find it for him.
The hunt was still on. She had to continue.
It had been a long time since she felt the call of the alpha in her head. She had wandered out of range of the raspy, gurgling howls of the rest of the pack. They were all tired, but they couldn’t go against the alpha.
She panted as she loped across an open field, body tucked low in the waves of grass and dragging a stiff back leg. Part of her wondered if she had misinterpreted the instructions the alpha gave her last. The woods were thinning out and the small of human filled her nose more and more.
Grass and moss, and mud between her toes. A gentle breeze that offered no comfort to her, a wolf awake when she shouldn’t be. Lost from her pack, her new alpha. Had to keep looking.
The small creatures the alpha wanted weren’t out here. She knew as well as any wolf that they were hard to find. More often than not, they weren’t even worth hunting, with small bodies little more than a mouthful.
Maybe they’d be good fare for a fox, but a wolf?! Never. It wasn’t smart, not when the little things could fight back as fiercely as they did.
The weary, wretched she-wolf reached the other end of the field at last and paused to look back. She was far away from the last place she ever planned to lie down and sleep. Her forever rest was well behind her, the alpha’s mission ever ahead. Even if she couldn’t feel him anymore.
The hunt went on and on and on.
( Like a Moth to Flame started out with a very different monster and a very different story, but because of a falling out with my editor, I had to nix most of it and reboot. This is the original intro for the story for anyone who’s interested )
His name was Mike MacDavis.
His friends called him McD. The nickname had developed from a combination of his name and his daily trips to McDonalds. It was an easygoing name for an easygoing guy, always with a smile for the cashier and never a complaint to be heard when he came in for his Big Mac and milkshake.
He had everything he’d ever wanted in life. A stable job that paid the bills, a loving wife that supported him through everything in life – even that brief phase ten years back when he’d attempted to become a painter. The artistic venture hadn’t gone anywhere, but they had some lovely watercolor landscapes that brightened up their home now, adding a splash of color in a modern setup.
They had three wonderful children together, the oldest ten and the youngest toddling along at just two years of age. He trailed after his mother with a thumb in his mouth no matter how much it was discouraged by his parents and siblings.
They had a home together, deep in the countryside. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the suburbs, the only disturbance in the peaceful landscape was the cries of the blue jays and grackles hopping around the yard and trying to find seed. A playset out back in their yard was full of toys, even a tonka truck that the two year old Max used to push sand out of his way gleefully, kicking up a whole mess whenever he was out there. Not far away, in the shadowed treeline, a tire swing hung from the thick, tall oak. When kids came out to play, it was one of the most popular places to be.
Past the treeline, there was a pond.
Big enough to swim in, too small for a motor boat. A small dock extended out, providing Mike and his wife Sharon a good place to dive into the murky depths on a warm summer day.
McD stood there now.
His arm were held out in front of him. His boots rocked back for a moment, holding his balance.
Flashes from the last day sped through his mind.
Waking up.
Laughing while he gave his six-year-old daughter a piggyback ride.
Breakfast, always an adventure with the children. Max deciding his eggs and tater tots made good projectiles and had refused to eat, but had been more than happy to try and fill up his father’s coffee cup with floating debris. He spent the entire time happily squealing “Dada!” whenever he was caught.
Packing everyone into the family SUV. Heading out to the circus.
Not much made it into his memory after that.
Little sparks lit up from time to time.
Clowns.
A ring of fire.
Carrie giggling next to him when he bought her a bag of cotton candy half her size. Her sticky face shining in the multicolored light.
Then just the dancers.
McD took a deep breath in the cool evening air. The sun was setting past the trees, a deep twilight falling over the land.
The dancers swayed back and forth in his memory. His gaze was drawn to one in particular, the third eye that was painted on her forehead catching his eyes and pulling them like a magnet.
The eye…
McD hefted up the cinderblock he was holding in his arms.
He paid no mind to the chain that was wrapped around it. He ignored the matching chain that was wrapped around his own leg, anchored securely.
All he could see was the eye as it moved to the cadence of the drums.
The trees were still and silent, no chirps to be heard. The distant sound of a splash reached the peaceful house.

There’s a good smattering of SPN size!fic out there on the interwebs, but it took me a long while to find the good stuff. All of this is SFW (aside from warnings listed) and definitely worth your while. There’s fics of all shapes and sizes (heh), so hopefully you find one that interests you. And I swear I tried so hard to find more tiny!Dean and tiny!Cas fics, but I’m afraid they are unicorns
in the SFW side of fic anyway.
Brothers Apart by nightmares06
Summary: Sam was hit with a witch’s curse when he was 10 and Dean was 14. Unable to find him or his attacker anywhere when the dust settled, John and Dean Winchester were eventually forced to give him up for dead. Unbeknownst to them, Sam was saved from the witch and adopted into a new family, and they’ve trained him to take care of himself as best he can in the world, and protected him from the witch’s gaze all these years. And now…
Warnings: language
Word Count: 34,779
Sky’s Notes: Brothers Apart and its related works are not so much a series as they are a lifestyle. Borrower!Sam’s story is but the gateway drug into a beautiful interconnected series of AUs. The focus is always on the brothers’ relationship, and it is usually fairly canon-compliant aside from the obvious. And it’s ongoing! There are new stories and updates all the time. It’s feelsy, and snarky, and creative, and I am in love with it.

The Comeback Kid by nightmares 06 and ObsessConfess
Summary: On a case out in California, troubles afoot when Sam falls asleep in the Impala and Dean comes out to find his Baby – and his baby brother – a little… different.
Warnings: language
Word Count: 58,621
Sky’s Notes: This is one of those fics I keep coming back to read. The size interaction is on point, walking that thin line between careful!guilty!big!Dean and careless!teasing!big!Dean. There are some priceless moments (think Dean cuddling the tiny!Impala in his sleep. Yes. That happens.) as well as some genuinely scary parts. It twists and turns and goes everywhere you don’t expect. It’s probably my favorite fic of all time.

Deanzilla vs Hydros by nej47
Summary: Dean slays a monster, only to become pretty monstrous himself. But Dean’s not about to let a little — okay, very big — size issue stop him from kicking ass and taking names.
Warnings: hurt/comfort imagery, language
Word Count: 145,714
Sky’s Notes: If you ever had a craving for big!Dean, look no further. This is everything you ever wanted, believe me. Humorous, angsty, a good dose of hurt/comfort, and an epic final battle all feature prominently. Dean is determined to silently push through the pain (both physical and emotional), and Sam is confused and concerned. Oh, and don’t forget all the snark. There’s lots of that. Set in Season 4, and as such has the obligatory inclusion of both Bobby and Castiel.
Measure of a Man by nej47
Summary: Sequel to Deanzilla! On top of demons, angels and even Sam, Dean must also struggle with his new giant powers. To add insult to injury, the key to controlling them is an affront to his no-chick-flick-moments male pride.
Warnings: canon-typical violence, language
Word Count: 139,184
Sky’s Notes: This is the sequel to Deanzilla vs Hydros, and is set later in Season 4. There’s even more angst in this one. Like, so much angst. The entire story just builds and builds and builds to a crescendo here, ending with a very satisfactory “Lucifer Rising” AU. (Oh, and pssst there’s some tiny!Dean too!) I won’t spoil any more of the good stuff, just read it already!

A Quantum of Solace by Celesma
Summary: “It was very clear to Sam that he was dreaming. That, or the witch had gone and cast the one spell he really, really wished she hadn’t—namely, the one that shrank people.” When Sam is injured from a witch’s shrinking spell, he learns where he and Castiel really stand. Unrepentant Sam/Cas fluff.
Warnings: canon-typical violence, language
Word Count: 72,918
Sky’s Notes: Sastiel at it’s absolute finest. There’s beautiful, poetic language, romcom worthy situations, sassiness, guilty!Sam, angelic!Cas, a smattering of Dean, all the fluff, a whole heap of angst, a very purple witch, and pumpkin spice lattes. You won’t be disappointed.
A Rare Sense of Humor by Obsess-Confess and giantgirl
Summary: In which the Trickster (Gabriel) takes it upon himself to teach Sam Winchester a lesson. So naturally, he shrinks him down to 6 inches and sends both brothers on a confusing wurst throughout New York City and beyond!
Warnings: mild violence, language
Word Count: 49,832
Sky’s Notes: Pure crack. The boys basically go on a scavenger hunt through New York City and…Candyland? Cas of course gets pulled in somehow, Gabriel is a well-meaning jerk, and Sam isn’t the only one to take a turn as a tiny.
Short Notice by story_monger
Summary: After the witch and Dorothy incident, it should have been pretty clearly spelled out for everyone: don’t mess with artifacts in the bunker.
And for the record, Sam hadn’t messed with anything. It had been an accident.
Which, granted, didn’t make his situation any better. But it was the principle of the matter. In which Sam gets shrunk, Dean panics, Castiel handles Winchesters, and Kevin saves the day. (from Part One)Warnings: canon-typical violence, language
Word Count: 37,452 (full series)
Sky’s Notes: This series reads like an actual series of episodes. There’s cracky fun, a good dose of angst, and enough twists to keep the guesses coming. The plotline is compelling, and while Sam is the focus, each of the characters are given emotional and functional weight. Also, Kevin and Crowley feature!
I Keep Looking At The Sky by prairie_city
Summary: The one where Sam gets shrunk, and Dean finds himself cursing at the…at, well, shit.
Warnings: language
Word Count: 7,600
Sky’s Notes: Sam loses his height. Sam loses his shoes. Sam loses his cookies. He also has a gun and he’s not afraid to use it. Dean is torn between laughter and overbearing concern. Snark, awkwardness, schmoop, and everything in between — it hits all the highlights, folks. Bonus points for a Bobby cameo.
The Incredible Shrinking Sam by mamapranayama
Summary: While getting to know each other again as brothers and partners, Sam and Dean run into a rather small problem. Set season one.
Warnings: language
Word Count: 37,586
Sky’s Notes: This is a romp of epic (minuscule?) proportions, featuring a slowshrinking!Sam. Between Sam’s predicament, Dean’s coping, a pair of grudgingly likeable OCs, and lots and lots of snark, this casefic has pretty much everything going for it. Oh, and Bobby is involved!
The Dollhouse by nightmares06
Summary: Sam and Dean are on a regular salt and burn to find a missing girl when they discover a haunted dollhouse – and Sam’s about to become one of the dolls!
Warnings: language
Word Count: 7,792
Sky’s Notes: A casefic, short and sweet and fun. Mostly Sam-centric, but Dean has some moments too. Very in-character and keeps the SPN spirit. It could be a legitimate episode.
It’s not like we haven’t had some seriously cracky episodes before.Minutus by Hellootricksterr
Summary: While searching the Men of Letters base, Dean finds a strange little statue. He shouldn’t have picked it up. Now he’s tiny, for three days! What’s a hunter to do when he can’t do anything?
Warnings: language
Word Count: 54,144
Sky’s Notes: Finally some Tiny!Dean! SO MUCH FLUFF. Also antics and general silliness, because this is Dean we’re talking about. There be pockets, pie, concerned!Sam, the obligatory brotherly bonding, movie nights, all sorts of lovely references to The BFG, and of course a good dose of Destiel.
The Parting Gift by PeaceJoJo
Summary: “What the hell?” Sam asked as he watched his brother’s hand get bigger and felt his brother’s waist pull away. His hand slid across the fabric of the back of Dean’s navy blue jacket. When Sam went to look to his left into his brother’s face, he was shocked to see Dean’s chest instead lit up with the lights from the Impala. Was Dean standing? Sam looked down and saw his brother’s legs still folded on the ground. “Holy crap. You’re growing.”
Warnings: mild language
Word Count: 5,217
Sky’s Notes: Dean is big, and as determined as ever to suffer silently. Sam obviously isn’t about to let him. Come prepared for the usual playfulness and a good ol’ brotherly
click flick momentdiscussion.Small Worlds by rionaleonheart
Summary: Sam and Dean are hunting a Gorgon. Which would be annoying enough even if Sam hadn’t somehow shrunk to ten inches tall.
Warnings: language
Word Count: 3,863
Sky’s Notes: This is too cute. Dean is insufferable, Sam is furious, and the snark of the century ensues.

AU: Brothers Apart
Timeline: Before Taken
“Kara, do you trust me?”
Kara stared up into her dad’s big grey eyes, a match for her own. Where hers were bright and hopeful, his were worn and older, creases in his skin formed from the hard times they’d survived in the motel. Hard times that had taken away her mother, his loving wife.
Nodding, she didn’t say a word as he turned and darted away. Of course she trusted him. She would always trust him. Her daddy had taken care of her ever since she could remember. Thin and underfed, Christian put his daughter before himself in all things. If there wasn’t enough food to feed them both, he would fast to let her eat.
Still, she was underfed and needed more food to survive. The scarcity of food in this motel showed in the ribs he could see clear through her skin. Too thin. If he couldn’t find more for her to eat, she’d waste away to nothing.
He’d only just reached the table when the door of the motel room swung open with an ominous creak. Christian froze, and chose to dive behind the leg of a chair before the human spotted him.
It wasn’t check-in time yet, why were they here?
He had his answer seconds later, when a hand descended around him. He struggled. “No!”
One hand reached out, grasping at the air where he knew Kara was waiting for him as the fingers shut tight, trapping him.
“Looks like we’ve got another to show Mina.”
“Hopefully this time she wants to bargain. We can’t wait much longer before the cash runs out.”
“Whatever, dear. She’ll come, the moment we call her. She always does.”
Christian didn’t have time to puzzle these strange words before under him, a gaping black purse opened up and he found himself tumbling inside. He landed with a thud on his side, groaning as he kicked a strange black cylinder, almost as long as he was, away.
Darkness fell over him, but his eyes could make out the shadowed interior without a problem. Huge items were scattered about, human possessions that he didn’t care to understand.
All he cared about was two very worried grey eyes he could see in his mind’s eye, looking up at him with all the trust in the world.
And now he was being taken away from her.

We’re so glad to hear! Sam encourages you to journal away, because you’ll never know how you can use those journals in the future! And we’ll keep writing for ya 😉
Krissy and big Dean will indeed meet at last in Brothers Apart, in one of the stories I’ve been working on for some time!

Sam usually ignores Dean while they’re getting ready in the morning. Being guys, they don’t think anything of walking around with their shirts off (for a while Sam was self conscious of how thin he was, but he’s gotten much better with a steady diet, and figured Dean’s seen it all ever since he was injured in Taken). He’s well acquainted with many of Dean’s scars, especially the ones in his hands. Many of these might even be too small for Dean to realize he has, nicks and scrapes from repairing the Impala for all those years.

AU: Brothers Apart
Timeline: After The Schism of Fire and Water
The tip of Dean’s tongue stuck out between his teeth as he concentrated all of his efforts down on the tiny ball of ground beef he was forming into the world’s smallest and most perfect hamburger patty.
It was the first opportunity he’d been able to get into the kitchen on his own, Bobby out to pick up more supplies for his crowded household, not used to entertaining guests at all, and certainly not sure what to do when one of those guests was smaller than a finger.
Sam was off exploring, and Dean hoped he stayed gone until he figured this thing out.
Tiny beef patties were harder than they looked.
His first attempt was too large. When Dean finished frying it, he’d realized that it was the size of Sam’s torso. No good. The entire point of this was making food Sam could eat like Bobby and Dean, not Sam-sized food. Dean had eaten it himself as he started his next attempt.
The next one had turned out smaller, but ended up looking like a tiny meatball. It wouldn’t sit on a bun. Another snack for Dean.
Now, he finally finished pressing the patty into shape and smirked. Perfect.
Dropping it onto one of Bobby’s smallest frying pans with the heat set on low, Dean went to turn his attention to the bun and fixings only to find Sam standing on the counter, curiously looking over the remains of Dean’s former attempts.
“Having some trouble?” Sam asked, his face open and innocent.
Caught in the act, Dean forced himself to unfreeze. Sam couldn’t see into the pan from where he was standing. There was still hope of it remaining a secret until it was ready. He reached for the fridge, leaning over to look inside while he talked. “Didn’t anyone ever tell you to not sneak up on a hunter?”
Sam took a few steps towards Dean, and away from the stovetop. “That same person once said he was always alert,” Sam joked, his grin widening. “So I guess this means you could work on those instincts of yours.”
Dean rolled his eyes, but there was no hiding the amusement in them. “And I know just the pint-size hunter who’s up to the challenge,” he snarked back.
“Do you?” Sam pretended like he had no idea what they were talking about. “You’ll have to introduce us. I could use some support the next time we go head to head.”
Dean snorted, sitting at the kitchen table with everything he needed. Tomato, onion, lettuce to shred and ketchup. He started to slice everything down to the size needed for Sam’s hamburger. The cherry tomato was perfect as soon as he had a slice, and he wondered why he hadn’t used that to judge how much ground meat for Sam’s burger.
“What are you doing?” Sam asked as Dean reached over to the pan, his arm long enough to reach the pan from his seat at the table and flipping over the mini patty to keep it from burning.
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” Dean said, trying to buy himself time and blinking away the fumes of the onion. There wasn’t much hope of hiding it from Sam much longer, but all he needed was a few more seconds.
The last part was the bun, and Dean only had the buns he and Bobby ate from. He flattened one, cutting it down to the same circular dimensions of the tomato. That was it, and now it was time to assemble.
With the tiny patty cooked, Dean placed that first on the bun, followed by the onion, tomato, shreds of lettuce and the smallest drop of ketchup before holding it out for Sam. “Hungry?” he asked, his eyes lighting up. The hamburger was small enough for Sam to hold between two hands, and actually take a bite of normally instead of picking it apart.
Sam looked dumbfounded, and a grin crept onto his face as he reached out for it. His tiny hands took the mini-burger from Dean, folding around the flattened bun. Then he smirked and looked up at Dean.
“What, no cheese?”
Dean froze again, thinking he’d done it wrong before spotting the smirk. Sam was kidding around with him. He flicked his fingers in Sam’s direction. “Special orders not accepted,” he said primly.
Sam took a bite, closing his eyes at the flavors, all together at once instead of separate like normal. “Thanks, Dean.”
