June 1st excerpt:

The coffee was almost done when he got back and he smiled in triumph. It wouldn’t get cold on him.

Dean went over to the nightstand to get Jacob up for the day. “Wakey, wakey! Eggs and bakey!” With a grin, he opened up the drawer and peered in to search for where the kid was sleeping. His eyes softened a little when he saw the guy curled up in the flannel shirt. It was almost bunched right over his head for sleep.

He reached in, nudging the shirt off of the tiny form and scooping him up into a loose fist again. “C’mon, half-pint. Time for some coffee.”

May 31st excerpt:

Dean’s eyes flashed to Jacob in surprise, seeing that he was backed defensively against the lamp. “Chill, you’ll be fine.” He reached forward again and snagged Jacob in a hand. “This is for your own good.”

May 30th excerpt:

It only took Dean a moment to find a good shirt for his plans. The warm blue flannel would be perfect as a bed. He stood back up from his stooped position, giving his arms a stretch. His back cracked, almost like it was lecturing him about binge watching TV.

He rubbed his hair as he walked back over to the nightstand, his eyes slowly trailing up to where he’d left Jacob. “Hope you don’t mind a shirt, I’m a little short of beds made for Tink–”

His voice cut off when he realized Jacob wasn’t standing where he’d left him. Dean’s heart froze and he instantly stared down at the ground to make sure the floor was clear. “Jacob? Where are you?”

He’s pretty sharp when it comes to coordination and aim, so Dean will have to defend his honor.

One of Dean’s advantages will be the fact that there’s like five more of him cheering him on and sassing Sherlock all together (aside from Sherlock’s Dean, who’s going to be so offended that most of the Deans are full sized).

Plus all that cocky swagger.

May 29th excerpt:

Dean let out a yawn, almost going to cover his mouth with the hand holding Jacob in it. He caught himself halfway there, almost freezing mid-yawn. “Sorry ‘bout that,” he said, lowering his hand down.

Jacob’s eyes were wide and he had to remind himself to take a breath. He never thought he’d have to fear something like that, and yet almost being lifted towards a giant mouth that was stretching wide open had made his heart nearly stop. He was reminded all over again that he was small enough to fit in that mouth. “D-don’t mention it,” he mumbled, very sincere in that wish.

Don’t mention it or do it ever again, Jesus Christ.

TorchMLP: (Brothers Divided) Does it never come up that Dean took Jacob away from his family?
Phoenix: Doubt Jacob wants to reveal that others exist.
Neon: Jacob isn’t telling Dean about his family ^^; Doesn’t want them taken too
nightmares06: The problem is Jacob admitting there’s even anyone else, because what if Dean wants them too
nightmares06: XD so Dean thinks he’s saving the orphan smol
Neon: Jacob is just very not like Sam XD No bitching about the way he acts
Just quietly hoping nothing too terrible happens XD
nightmares06: XD Dean thinks Jake just needs time to get used to him
Phoenix: right. And so Dean thinks he’s doing pretty good. Not being scary at all.
nightmares06: XD Dean thinks he’s being awesome
nightmares06: Saved the kid

TorchMLP: So Dean’s relationship with his dad in the show is one where John is basically Dean’s hero, the person he looks up to and strives to be. How does this change in Brothers Saved?
nightmares06: Burning undercurrent of resentment because John doesn’t think he can do the thing
nightmares06: Sam’s the one that gets most upset about it, but Dean feels the strain
TorchMLP: is it like a gradual build up, or something that persists for several years?
nightmares06: It’s pretty gradual, but with Sam it all boils over at once

Where the Trees Grow #4

arc852:

Hey! The fourth part of my @brothersapart contest entry! Okay, so, I’m just gonna leave this here. My excuse is work and school and just life in general being so busy. Still not sure if I’ll be able to finish this in time, but we’ll see. If I can’t, I’ll still finish it in my own time. Enjoy!

The last thing Mark had been expecting was for two people his size to walk into his little hideaway. Well, he says his size. The two were still a good foot taller than him, but at least that was normal. He backed away a bit, weary of the two strangers, but he couldn’t help but feel relieved to see them.

Sam and Jacob walked in, hands up where Mark could see them, to appear non-threatening. They both knew Mark was feeling high-strung, they themselves had gone through similar feelings when they had first shrunk.

“Hey, Mark right? It’s okay, no one is going to hurt you.” Sam tried, referring not only to the two of them, but to the two giants outside. Mark took a breath and pushed off the wall, coming a little closer.

May 28th excerpt:

“I wouldn’t call it short,” Dean said easily. “I’d say you’re just size-deficient.” He planted the tip of his index finger on Jacob’s chest and gently pushed him back towards the tape measure. He wasn’t about to take no for an answer. Based on the way Jacob was fighting against it, there wouldn’t be many chances to get his sizes for future clothing when Dean managed to find a store that sold more than just cheap barbie clothes. Maybe he’d get lucky and find a store geared just towards dolls. It might be more expensive but it would be worth it.

At the sight of Jacob’s exasperated struggles, Dean let out a small sigh and took slight pity on him. “Okay, how about this. I don’t even have to tell you how tall you are.”

May 27th excerpt:

Dean lifted up the measuring tape and dangled it close to Jacob. “It’ll only take a second.”

Jacob made a flat look at the tape measure, and at the notepad Dean had dragged closer. “No thanks,” he answered, sidling away from both pointedly. He had a feeling that the number, no matter how close or far it was from his estimation, wouldn’t be very encouraging at all. He was still small enough for Dean to drop in a pocket. “I already know I’m not winning any height contests here, so there’s no need.”
