June 9th excerpt:

Jacob was frozen, stuck once again between fear and confusion by the man’s actions. He could hardly lean away from the fingertip against half his face, though he did what he could. Of all things that could have happened, this was the least expected. He could have been enclosed in a tighter fist, or shoved into a pocket to be trapped and out of sight and earshot. Instead, he was simply shushed.

May 25th excerpt:

Peering under the dresser where the kid had been heading, Sam scanned the floor for signs of anyone else nearby. His sharp hazel eyes couldn’t make out much among the darkness and dustbunnies, so he resolved to do a better search later. After he’d figured out what was up with this tiny kid.

Using his elbows for balance, Sam pushed himself up to a kneeling position, staring at his cupped fists.

August 4th excerpt:

The moment those fingers closed around him, Jacob felt his heart skip a beat. Even knowing Dean wouldn’t hurt him or keep him trapped like that, he couldn’t help the bolt of pure instinct that raced through his system. Until Dean opened his hand, he was trapped, truly and completely.

June 13th excerpt:

His hand was around the kid in seconds, plucking him free of the edge. Dean lifted Jacob up to his eyes. “What in the world were you thinking?” he demanded.

Jacob blinked rapidly, as always a little dazed with how quickly he moved in Dean’s grasp. He was getting used to it, which was weird all by itself, but he still had a ways to go. In the meantime, it took him a few seconds to put together a coherent response to Dean’s question.

“I was thinking I’d get to the floor,” he answered, a little cheek and a lot of dizziness in his tone.

June 2nd excerpt:

Dean went over to the coffee pot in the kitchenette, getting out a mug. He kept Jacob in his hand while he poured himself a cup, sighing at the smell. “There’s nothin’ like a good cup of joe in the morning,” he said, half to himself and half to the kid that was hanging out in his fist. “I don’t know what I’d do without it.”

He brought the cup over to the table and set it down. “Almost forgot.” He grabbed the bottlecap from the nightstand. “Can’t leave you out, now, can I?”

February 5th excerpt:

The out of place leaf fluttered to life of its own accord. Before the shape attached to it could dart away and out of range of the grab, Dean’s hand closed around it. A cry of terror yelped out of the small figure as leafy green wings were forced closed and confined along with the rest of its body.

Thanks to his experience with Sam and Jacob, Dean’s grab didn’t crush the little guy, but it would be hard to tell just from his reaction. He struggled valiantly, tiny legs kicking futilely in the closed fist while he tried to free his arms. He was a lot thinner and frailer than Dean’s hardy little brothers, a little wisp of a guy. Bright green eyes stared around without seeing as Logan rushed up next to Dean to see his catch.

Hmm, they wouldn’t be a fan of most of those options. Closed fist gives the human all the control over the situation, and two fingers feels a lot like dangling over a cliff. Three fingers might help a little, but it’s still only one slight tightening of those fingers before there’s a snapped rib.

If there wasn’t time for a palm, it would be safest to just sweep them off the ground into a cupped hand.
