October 7th excerpt:

“Seriously?” Stan admonished. “This is the impression you’re gonna make?”

Bill blinked, not expecting such a strong reaction from him. “Hey, I… I was only tryin’ to–,”

“Save it, North,” Stan snapped, shutting Bill right up.

October 6th excerpt:

Dean slowly scanned the room around him, spotting his boots as he shoved off the edge of the handkerchief. “Didja sleep good Sammy…” he yawned into his arm. “Sam?”

Looking around, Dean realized something was missing.

October 4th excerpt:

“You go on and eat up now, alright? I’ll fetch you another water and be right back. Sound good?”

Sam nodded numbly, mechanically reaching for another bit of egg. There wasn’t much in him to protest, and he didn’t much want to. His energy was sapped from the outburst of emotion, leaving him to eat the food, more tasteless now that he felt drained. He ate for energy and nutrition instead of enjoyment.

October 3rd excerpt:

“Do you have a napkin?” Sam asked, momentarily breaking out of his reverie. “It’ll be like a picnic blanket I can wipe my hands with.”

John perked up and his eyes darted back to Sam as the boy spoke up. His suggestion had been considered in passing as John worked, but it was admittedly a little endearing to have it described like a picnic blanket.

October 2nd excerpt:

John popped a slice of bread into the toaster, putting it on a light setting. Just enough to get it crispy on the outside. By the time that was done, the eggs were, too, and he put those on the plate with the bacon. Separately, he took a small cutting knife and took a small rectangle off one corner and split it into two squares. These he pressed thin with the flat of his knife, to make them easier for Sam and Dean to handle.

October 1st excerpt:

As Sam was finishing with his hair, Dean packed the last of their supplies. He replaced the lid of the ceramic pot he’d found behind a dresser a few months back, covering up the dry food supplies they’d gathered to keep it fresh, and keep any bugs away from it. They would return here again, and if the food was still good, they would use it for meals. If not, they’d take it and dispose of it. It was best to avoid wasting what they took from the human side of the household.

With their place packed up and cleaned, they left it behind once more.

September 29th excerpt:

Before Dean lost his resolve, he stuck his hand out like he’d been shown as a kid to offer the dog his scent, his fingers stretched out as far as they could go in an attempt to make his hand as big as possible. He didn’t know if it was going to make a difference considering his entire body was smaller than a normal person’s hand, but maybe she’d understand and recognize the gesture and consider him like any other human, instead of a treat or toy.

“H-hey girl,” Dean stuttered out. “We’re all friends here, right?”

September 28th excerpt:

For a moment while Dean talked, Nate nearly froze halfway through his descent down the stairs. This was the most Dean had spoken around him, only a few sentences but enough for Nathan to notice something important.

Dean was American.

September 27th excerpt:

To prepare himself for the trip down the stairs, Dean again found his hands going to Nate’s shirt and holding on tight, almost tempted to hide his face to avoid seeing the heights this time.

Before heading back down, Nate nodded at Stan. “Why don’t you go get Juno. They should at least meet each other,” he suggested.

September 26th excerpt:

Not wanting to overwhelm Dean, Nate decided to skip over a few of the more intense details of the house. The hidden armory, the panic room basement, the hidden room designed to trap potential intruders. There was no need to freak Dean out any more when Stan had already done a fine enough job of that on his own.
