Extra bitty Jacob definitely notices the chill once or twice. His body holds less heat and his clothes are thinner than even Sam’s. In the end, he has to stick close to the others if he wants to retain any body heat. Sam and Bowman might not produce as much warmth as a human can, but they do manage better than wee Jake.

Besides, Jacob lives up to his reputation as a teddy. Hugs from a mini-giant are sure to keep such a bitty guy warm.

June 13th excerpt:

His hand was around the kid in seconds, plucking him free of the edge. Dean lifted Jacob up to his eyes. “What in the world were you thinking?” he demanded.

Jacob blinked rapidly, as always a little dazed with how quickly he moved in Dean’s grasp. He was getting used to it, which was weird all by itself, but he still had a ways to go. In the meantime, it took him a few seconds to put together a coherent response to Dean’s question.

“I was thinking I’d get to the floor,” he answered, a little cheek and a lot of dizziness in his tone.

I’m sure living with Dean has its ups and downs for Jacob, so he’s not constantly terrified of what Dean’s about to do. Just… most of the time?? ^^; Poor kid could use a long vacation back with Sammy.

We’re not sure when it’ll start but we’ve gotten a great reception with these excerpts so we’ll be sure to bump it up in the editing order to prepare it for the poll!

Dean could use a good scolding. We all know that Jacob is but a teddy!

Jacob deals with things in his own way. He aims to be chill most of the time, so even when he is freaking out, it can be hard to actually tell. Especially when he’s already so smol and Dean’s just kind of a hurricane that goes when he gets the idea to go somewhere.

So so many things would be cleared up if Jacob wasn’t afraid to just talk things out. ;w;

June 12th excerpt:

Dean licked his lips. “Is that really what you think?” he asked hoarsely, shoving himself back to his feet. He almost stumbled away from the table, blindly grabbing for his jacket. Something in him wanted to get out, get away…

Somewhere he wouldn’t have to see the fear in Jacob’s eyes from the night before flash into his mind again.

“W-wait, Dean, lemme just…” Jacob tried to say, but Dean wasn’t listening to him. The human didn’t acknowledge him at all and seemed entirely out of sorts after the question.

June 11th excerpt:

Jacob sighed and shrugged before reaching out to push Dean’s hand. “Sure, running towards the monsters. Sign me up.”

“Hey, as long as I’m running towards the monsters, it means they ain’t about to chase after me,” Dean shot easily back, smirking at the featherlight feeling of an amazingly small hand trying to push against his. On his own, Jacob would never be able to move the hand, but Dean played along and moved it away. Before getting out of reach, though, he curled his hand and playfully messed up Jacob’s hair. He couldn’t pass up a prime opportunity like that to mess with the kid.

June 10th excerpt:

The voice of Alex Trebek played over the speakers of the motel room TV. “This car was made famous in the film Knight Ri–

“What is the nineteen eighty-two Firebird!” Dean called out instantaneously.

Jacob flinched in his whole body, ducking his head and clamping his hands over his ears in surprise. Dean’s voice blurted from behind him, but also from under him. He was seated on the source.

He really should have seen that coming.

June 9th excerpt:

“So glad you could enjoy yourself,” Jacob muttered with a roll of his eyes, still resenting how he must have looked just now.

Dean’s grin came back full force at the attitude he was getting from a kid smaller than his fingers. It had been so long since he’s had someone around to joke with, the attitude was refreshing. Like he’d been missing it for years and had only just noticed the absence.

“Aww, c’mon, it wasn’t that bad, was it?” Dean asked lightly. “You know you had fun too. In between cursing me out, that is.” He gave Jacob a playful nudge against his shoulder with a thumb. “You’ll just have to find a way to get me back. That way we’ll be even.”
