And we are 2 for 2!

Clash of the Hunters was originally named for Clash of the Titans. Compared to Sam and the sprites, any fight between the hunters Dean and Logan is an epic tale along the proportions of the Titans. Good thing one of the hunters is on their side this time!

New abbreviation updated on the FAQ.

February 25th excerpt:

Dean grunted as the blow struck him hard. His arms loosened around Logan’s legs, and he fell on his side, dazed. The grass he was lying near danced across his vision, doubling and tripling as Dean blinked, trying to erase the ringing from his ears.

Sam… Jacob…

February 17th excerpt:

Bowman glanced up from the food he was examining and then looked away from Dean almost immediately. Giants, he discovered, could drink enough water in one gulp to swallow up an entire sprite. Bowman’s instincts, a deep-seated fear of predators, barked at him that he could be next. He shuddered, but pushed the thought aside. Judging by the way Dean kept the jar close by when he was around, he would rather keep Bowman, maybe like the people in his pocket.

He eyed the drop of water spilled by Dean’s offered bucket. It was tough to decide if that was better than Logan’s plan for him.

February 16th excerpt:

“I think I can make that work,” Dean said, spreading out his food in front of him. He tore open a granola bar and the trail mix; the last thing he’d need was Sam or Jacob bitching at him for not picking their favorite, and carefully picked out something of everything. He sent a quick glance Logan’s way. With the other hunter preoccupied, Dean took advantage of a free moment to take his handful of food and drop it swiftly into his chest pocket.

The pocket struggled in surprise, then came two swift elbows in unison to his chest when Sam and Jacob figured out what he’d done.

February 15th excerpt:

Dean absently hummed the music from Smoke on the Water as he slipped behind the trees, going deeper in. Only a few stray rays of sunlight made it this deep into the trees, the rest of the area lit by a deeper green from the leaves blocking the light. Once he was sure Logan wasn’t following, Dean relaxed with a sigh. “That wasn’t in the plan,” he muttered to himself, and to his tiny brothers, who could finally come out.

February 13th excerpt:

Logan tromped to the center of the clearing so he could get a good view of the sky. “I’ll get a fire going,” he determined, glancing back to Dean, standing there with a duffel bag full of weapons and a sprite in a jar, casual as could be. What the hell?

You’re 100% right about that one!

If Logan had been the one holding Bowman for that scene, there would most certainly have been an injured sprite to deal with. Dean tends to be much more fair when it comes to dealing with tiny unknowns. He probably wouldn’t approve of Logan jumping to conclusions.

Bowman would make it easy to choose his side, too. He would be absolutely devastated if something happened to his wings and he couldn’t fly. The little guy doesn’t cry often, but there would be spritely tears.

Bowman may not agree, but he’s better off with Dean any day.

February 8th excerpt:

Bowman scoffed and squirmed again. He didn’t have time for something like this. Not when Logan looked completely skeptical of the conversation, too. Bowman was the only one on his own side, and he had to focus on getting away. He couldn’t give them time to decide they wanted to hurt him.

He almost spat out another scathing remark, but in his struggles he spotted movement on Dean’s chest. He blinked, but could have sworn he saw a couple pairs of eyes, normal sized ones, peering out of a pocket at him. The notion threw him off and he froze.

February 5th excerpt:

The out of place leaf fluttered to life of its own accord. Before the shape attached to it could dart away and out of range of the grab, Dean’s hand closed around it. A cry of terror yelped out of the small figure as leafy green wings were forced closed and confined along with the rest of its body.

Thanks to his experience with Sam and Jacob, Dean’s grab didn’t crush the little guy, but it would be hard to tell just from his reaction. He struggled valiantly, tiny legs kicking futilely in the closed fist while he tried to free his arms. He was a lot thinner and frailer than Dean’s hardy little brothers, a little wisp of a guy. Bright green eyes stared around without seeing as Logan rushed up next to Dean to see his catch.

Logan Guthrie, the villain of Bowman Leafwing’s canon story, does seem to find himself in Wellwood quite often when I muse about different stories set there. With Sam growing up in Wellwood, his chances of encountering the man got much greater than in any other au, that’s for certain.

If it does happen, I think a Prayer to the Spirit wouldn’t go amiss. Sam will have to show what he’s made of to protect his home and his family!
