Considering their run of luck, it’s a definite possibility. Dean takes every precaution around the room when they’re alone, including salt lines around the room and sleeping with his colt under his pillow. Sam doesn’t go far from Dean at night, sleeping on the pillow next to where his brother is.

And most nights, Dean hugs the pillow he’s on.

If anything happens, they’ll have to deal with it as best they can.

Sneak Peek!

Excerpt from Adventures at Bobby’s, arriving officially on October 30th

Heaving a sigh, Dean trudged back up the stairs to the house, intending to find Sam and let him know the good news. They might even be able to head off on the search for their next case as soon as tomorrow. There was a definite bounce in his step at that thought as he came into the kitchen.

“Sam!” Dean called out. He took a few steps in, spotting Bobby at the table buried under research for other hunters. “You seen Sam?”

Bobby frowned up at him as he finished paging through his latest tome. “Last I saw, him an’ Rumsfeld headed out to see you,” Bobby stated pointedly.

Dean felt a bit of worry start to trickle at the back of his mind. They’d come to see him? He’d never even seen Sam outside. “When was that?”

“ ‘Bout an hour ago,” Bobby said. He had to cut himself off as he grabbed a phone, switching to his FBI persona. “Willis, FBI…”

Dean left him on his own, going to search the house. Sam couldn’t have gone far. Neither of them had been outside when he’d finished up, so they must have gone back in with Dean unresponsive. He shook his head ruefully. Had he really been that intent on the car?

The worry started to blossom into an all out fear as his search of the house turned up nothing. “Sam!” he called out, pounding from room to room in one last sweep. There was no way Sam would miss his stomping around up there. There was still no response from brother or dog.

Dean practically flew past Bobby, who was still on the phone arguing with the local authority of some town or the other. He stumbled down the steps, glancing around the yard with a bit of panic starting to show in his expression.

“Sam!” he called out, practically praying at this point to see the dog perk his head up, Sam snickering nearby at Dean’s disquiet.

But there was nothing.

Dean expanded his search. He weaved his way around all of the junked cars that were piled up in the area. All he could see was the dangers out there for Sam. A car could shift position and crush the small hunter and he’d never find him… a hawk could dive down… raccoons could slip in from the fields…

Walt Versus Dean

BA Canon: No || AU

Timeline: 2005 (The same week Dean and Sam reunited in canon BA)

(Part 1 of 5 )

Take it in steps.

First, examine the room. Watch the shadows. Listen for breathing.

Patience is key to survival. You must be willing to wait and analyze and decide if the risk is worth the gain.

Food does you no good if you get caught.

Stay alert.

No matter how certain you are that they’re gone, nothing is stopping them from coming back. Never drop your guard. It might be the last thing you ever do.

The maids don’t pay attention here. Your luck might hold up if they’re the ones that come in the room.

But there’s no way to ever know.

Those words were always on Walt’s mind. Some of the last words he’d ever said to Bree, and the words he now repeated to Sam ad nauseum. He was desperate not to lose another child to the humans.

For that reason alone, Walt was glad he’d caught Sam trying to sneak out that morning.

It was a good plan to check the empty room before anyone else checked in, but an odd feeling, the sense of foreboding, that trouble was waiting right around the corner for all of them, had made Walt tell Sam to stay with Mallory. He could help with her de-threading that she was working on.

Walt had gone instead.

And now, despite all his planning and watching and listening and waiting, he was in trouble.

Sam might already have been caught if he was the one in the room.

A massive boot hit the ground less than a foot from his hiding place, shaking the ground around him. He flinched back, knowing that all the human had to do was glance to the side. The chair leg he had darted behind in desperation to get out of sight offered no real cover.

He could feel the reassuring weight of his razor tucked against his chest, weighing down his jacket. It might not be as sturdy or as sharp as Sam’s beloved knife (a weapon that had been crafted with a skill Walt found himself admiring), but it would get the job done if he needed to defend himself.

As the human continued past his hiding place, walking into the bathroom, Walt peered around the leg of the chair. His breathing hitched in anticipation. The man was out of sight.

It was now or never.

Gone was any thought of watching or waiting. He was out in the open, far from cover. The distance he needed to run to get under that cover would barely be two steps for the human if he was seen.

He’d never win that race.

His legs tensed, then he dashed towards the looming dresser. The welcome darkness underneath beckoned him. No number of dustbunnies would stop him from diving into that darkness.

The floor started to tremble.

No, no, no! Walt hadn’t even made it halfway in his heartstopping run of desperation. He forced his legs to pump faster, desperately gasping in air. The soles of his boots dug into the worn carpet as he went.

“What the hell?” the voice boomed overhead.

He’d been spotted.

Sneak Peek!

Now that Season One of Brothers Apart is over, the boys will have more obstacles to face and will need to work together as a team like never before!

Here’s a snippet from the upcoming eighth part of BA: The Schism of Fire and Water

(Warning: words and phrases may change before the chapter this is a part of is released)

Sam realized that Dean was doing anything but sleeping. His face had the familiar stubborn cast of a person trying to ignore the world around them, instead of his usual relaxed posture. The reason he hadn’t reacted to Sam became clear when he caught sight of the earbuds in Dean’s ears.

Dean just wasn’t going to make this easy on him.

With a world-weary sigh, Sam jogged over to the bed. If Dean refused to listen to him, he’d find a way to make Dean listen, whatever it took. A brief shiver went up Sam’s back when he remembered how big Dean was, but it faded away faster this time.

Sam grabbed the edge of the bed cover, hauling himself up the sheer cliff with no need for his fishhook or line. A climbing surface like the cover offered plenty of handholds and places to grip. He was careful to stay clear of the hand that was hanging off the bed, spotting it silently twitching in time with the song Dean was listening to at the moment. He didn’t want to get knocked off the bed by accident.

Once he made it to the top of the bed Sam wasted no time in climbing up Dean himself. He felt the hunter freeze up under him the second he made contact, then smirked as Dean tried to force himself to relax and ignore Sam. You already gave yourself away, jackass. That wasn’t exactly your most subtle move. I know you’re awake and you know I’m here.

Sam jogged up Dean’s stomach, ignoring the way the uneven ground gave way beneath his feet. That was normal enough for him these days. It was hardly the first time he’d walked on Dean, though it was the first he’d been ignored while walking up. For all the good that would do Dean. Sam felt a spark of determination fill him. Dean would listen to him.

With that in mind, Sam brought his boot down on the cord of Dean’s headphones, yanking one of the buds out of his ears. Dean’s eyes flashed open before he could catch himself, an annoyed look in his stare when he caught sight of Sam standing on his chest with arms stubbornly crossed over his chest.

“Dude, you’re standing on my headphones,” Dean grumbled, the ground under Sam vibrating. The quiet sound of Smoke on the Water leaked out of the free bud.

“Yeah. That’s kind of the point,” Sam said, meeting Dean levelly in the eyes. “We need to talk.”
