March 22nd excerpt:

Leaping out from behind the backpack, Sam pulled out his rapier and held it towards the human. There was no doubt in his mind that he would actually use the sword if he needed to.

Sprites were pacifists. Sam was not.

“Let my brother go, you mountain of snakeskin!” Sam called out in a commanding voice. It wavered slightly at the sight of how much bigger the human was compared to them both, even just sitting down. He pressed stubbornly on. “He never did anything to you!”

That is correct, wood sprite wings do have chlorophyll in them facilitating the photosynthesis. However, the extension is not also true. Leaves change color in autumn because they slowly stop producing chlorophyll, so their natural colors begin to show through until the green is gone. However, wood sprites don’t stop this production. That’s where the big differences between their wings and real leaves show through; real leaves eventually die off because of the winter months, and not pulling in enough energy is a part of that. Wood sprites must keep their wings, of course! 🙂

That said, if a wood sprite’s wings did stop producing chlorophyll for some reason (sickness, for example), then their wings would look grayish. They don’t have other pigments in the wings hidden by the green.

March 15th excerpt:

“What do you mean, ’if they’re sprite-sized?’ ” the same patrolsprite blurted again, though this time she had the support of a few other murmurs of agreement. Scar was pleased that his knights knew not to join in the blasted murmurs.

March 12th excerpt:

Sam peeked out from where he was standing behind Scar, his face faintly red at the sight of so many other people, and all with wings like Scar’s. “H-hi Ara- my Lady,” he managed to nervously stutter out, not completely sure how he was supposed to address her. His dad hadn’t spent much time on formalities, and Dean wasn’t the best example to follow when it came to authority figures like police and teachers. Sam wanted to make a good impression after his life had been saved.

His wide hazel eyes flicked to the other knights that were in the room with them. “Are you going to help find my brother?” he asked, innocent hope in him that soon he would be back where he belonged with his family.
