Oh, what’s that I hear? A new AU?

Brothers Unexpected? What could this possibly be about?

Why the new AU you ask?

Well… because

We just can’t get enough of this! So, if you’ve got any ideas what this is about, send in an ask and maybe you’ll be the lucky person who gets everyone a sneak peek.

They have not run into this situation yet, aside from with Rumsfeld. And it would all depend on the dog. Rumsfeld adopted smols as his family from the start, other dogs would not have the same reaction. The dogs might not give a damn or they might decide that someone Sam’s size is a chew toy or a baby of their own. It all depends on the pup.

In The Darkness Ch. 3 Part 1

borrowedtimeandspace:

Something evil is afoot in a small rural town in Midwestern America, and it’s up to Sam and Dean to find out what. With the help of a small woman named Zepheera, they’ll do their best to save the town and Zepheera’s time-travelling alien friend from the greatest evil the Winchesters have ever faced.

This is a contest entry for @nightmares06. It features characters from my Doctor Who/Borrowers crossover series ‘Borrowed Time (and Space)’ with a little tweak in Zepheera’s size to put her to Sam’s scale. This is not canon for BTAS and takes place sometime before Taken in Brothers Apart.

Posting in bits to help keep me motivated to write this. Once it’s all done, I’ll put the chapters up properly on Ao3

Zepheera
had recently been plagued by nightmares so hellish they’d wake her up several
times in the night. Sometimes she dreamt of the terrible things the Wage Star
was making the townspeople do to each other; she had a childhood encounter with
an alien to thank for psychic dreams such as these. But often, she dreamt about
the Doctor…about waking up to find him not breathing. Dreams like this were
much too similar to the other kind, and they either kept her awake or brought
her sleep to a screeching halt.

But
for the first time in days, the borrower woke up the next morning feeling
well-rested. Ordinarily, she would be so groggy that she could barely function
without a cup of tea. Last night’s events must have alleviated more stress than
she thought, because as she sat up and stretched herself fully alert she
couldn’t recall one time her sleep had been interrupted.

Zepheera
combed her fingers through her tousled bob, and her gaze dropped down and over
to find the Doctor. “Morning, old man,” she mumbled as usual.

April 15th excerpt:

There was no mistaking this car for some camping trip family car, despite its size. It was gleaming in the dark even before Jacob’s flashlight beam swept over it, black-and-chrome finish reflecting the moon and stars from above. Jacob let out an appreciative breath at the sight of the huge car. It wasn’t more than a foot or two longer than his own, but somehow it conveyed a lot more size and ferocity regardless. It looked like it could practically rear up and fight as much as Dean did.

Bowman had his own appreciation for the car, but his eyes were wide for entirely different reasons. He also looked behind them at the other vehicles, the arrangement of tents, everything about the human campsite that he could see. “This is what a car looks like?” he muttered, barely refraining from swooping off Dean’s shoulder to circle the big, shiny black beast. “And you’re sure it’s safe?”

At first, since the circumstances surrounding Sam’s departure from the motel are different, and we’ll find out just how different when the story airs, he sleeps on a flannel shirt of Dean’s. Down the line they do get him a small bed of his own and settle him in very similarly to what happens in BA.

April 14th excerpt:

Bowman smirked. “He’s the only one around without wings in the way so he introduced us all to piggyback rides, as he calls them.”

That brought a smile to Dean’s face as he remembered the years growing up with Sam. “He did?” He laughed slightly. “Man, when he was little he always used to ask for piggyback rides. He was such a scrawny kid when he was growing up.”

Dean held out his hand to approximate how tall Sam used to be before the curse, then hesitated. “Well, I guess he’s smaller now,” Dean admitted mulishly, remembering just how light Sam was in his hand.

Sam had a very difficult time coping at first. He woke up in a strange home with two strange people and the first thing he did was ask to see his family. When they couldn’t do that, he got very upset and tried to run away. Walt had to chase Sam all the way to a motel room he got himself stuck in with people staying there. It was only then that Sam could even begin to accept that his life had been flipped upside down and try to deal with his new situation. Dean and John were gone and they weren’t coming back.
