Nope, Sam does not become a sprite. And technically, Sam doesn’t ‘turn into’ anything in the story. He is merely cursed to shrink. Any other effects that hit him, such as his knack, are all side-effects of the spell, and if he ever complains that he’s not human, that’s just his own fears coming to light – see here.
There has been talk of involving law enforcement in a future story in the AUs, so it’s perfectly possible you will see this happening down the line! It’s which AU it happens in that’s the hard part to decide, there’s so many different possibilities to bandy about.
Also, Jacob’s stepdad is a cop. So… have fun introducing Dean to the fam. Just sayin’, Jake.
Good question – the ‘unexpected’ part has nothing to do with size. In these stories, someone is always going to end up cursed to be small. Sam, Dean Jacob have all had their moments in the AUs to shrink down. So, in this story, someone will be cursed.
Something evil is afoot in a small rural town in Midwestern America, and it’s up to Sam and Dean to find out what. With the help of a small woman named Zepheera, they’ll do their best to save the town and Zepheera’s time-travelling alien friend from the greatest evil the Winchesters have ever faced.
This is a contest entry for @nightmares06. It features characters from my Doctor Who/Borrowers crossover series ‘Borrowed Time (and Space)’ with a little tweak in Zepheera’s size to put her to Sam’s scale. This is not canon for BTAS and takes place sometime before Taken in Brothers Apart.

silence between them was broken by Zepheera, who peeked around the console at
the brooding men. “Sorry,” she piped up, “But I think I have something that’ll
help.”
Without
waiting for permission to share, she approached Dean and thrust a pair of
glasses onto his face. Dean blinked in surprise. The square lenses were fake,
but it was certainly the last thing Dean expected Zepheera to do.
Cute guess! Kinda the opposite of Brothers Asunder, but with a fluttering Bowman. He’s only five in the story, so they’d have their hands full with a wee little sprite that likes to just run off when he gets excited.
This isn’t the AU, but it’s a fun idea to muse on!
Dean took off without looking. It took a few seconds of determined walking to realize he’d gone in the wrong direction and had to backtrack. “I don’t know what they used in that shot they gave me but I can’t feel a thing,” Dean enthused to Jacob when he found him again. “Where’s the car parked?”
“Well … outside,” Jacob answered, keeping his expression as neutral as he could. Hopefully Dean wouldn’t see the smirk at the edges of his mouth in this state. Despite everything going on, it was hard not to find the drugged antics amusing. “Lemme show ya.”

Nope! This is going to be an entirely separate series, one that starts out different from the very beginning. It’s more likely to see a size swap or a body swap as a part of one AU, not as the focus.
This is a cute idea, but it’s more likely to appear as a story within one of the AUs, it won’t be an AU on its own. Can you just see how offended Sam will be if he wakes up in a room full of normal-sized furniture? He’d be yelling at Dean for pranking him in a dollhouse!
