Does (human) Dean ever buy a kindle or nook for (little) Sam so he can finally read books for fun again or does Sam just use the computer?

Dean hasn’t thought of it, and Sam doesn’t know they exist yet.

Kindles didn’t really become ‘mainstream’ until 2007, and it was a few years after that where they really became popular. Brothers Apart, like Supernatural, starts in 2005, so Dean still has a flip phone during the first few years, and they’re operating on a bulky laptop that he’s had for quite some time.

Sam does take the time to look up books on the computer when he can, and he’s gotten half decent at not getting stuck in books if they start to flip closed on him (Dean’s had to rescue him more than once during research).

It’s just around 2007 as Brothers Apart enters season 3, which is where we left off during the season finale.

So random idea. Have u ever read this fanfic called Inverse Operations? Where Sam is the older brother and Dean the younger brother? I was thinking it would be kinda cool to see a version of Brothers Apart based on that

I have not.

I do enjoy fanfiction from time to time, but I tend to stay in the g/t niche a lot of the time (when I can find the stuff, that’s another problem on its own). There’s also not a lot of time in the day anymore where I can sit down and read a good story.

Age swaps are fun, but officially I prefer to keep certain parts of the Supernatural universe intact. Sam and Dean are always brothers, Dean the older and Sammy the younger… However, for a case or two it’s something that would be fun to play around with, just like how the series de-aged Dean for an episode and Sam had to deal with his teenager ‘older’ brother, who was no longer of drinking age but still had all his memories intact.

I do briefly touch on this kind of idea in my canon-style fic Don’t You Cry No More, where Dean ends up younger than Sam through a very unfortunate situation, read at your own risk, and we have… plans… in the Brothers Apart multiverse…

In Brothers Sought, does Dean finding out about the curse has anything to do with Bobby knowing of smols?

If only it did!

Bobby still continues to hide their existence from the hunters he deals with, including Dean and his dad. Dean discovers of Jacob in a completely unrelated fashion.

Jacob wishes Bobby had been the one to tell him. If Bobby knew the idea Dean got in his head from all this, he’d whack him upside the head.

Brothers Saved Dynamic

anonymous asked:

How does the dynamic of Big Sam/Smol Dean interact with people like Bowman, Jacob, or Nixie?

Lol, these two will be a fun pair once they grow up!

Sam tends to be a bit more hands-off with smols compared to BA Dean. He’s far less likely to just grab, unless they’re a possible threat (he hasn’t dealt with any winged smols, so they’ll get nabbed).

Meanwhile, smol Dean is hyper and very likely to pounce on a stranger, he wants to know where they came from and why they’re here, and they better not be getting into his stuff!

Dean’s had a few less savory experiences with borrowers by the time he’s grown in that AU. People just keep mistaking him as Sam’s pet and trying to ‘save’ him! He’s quite happy sticking with his little brother. Who else is supposed to take care of the kid?

If Jacob’s human-sized, it all depends on how they meet. Dean is still as stab-happy as ever if he gets grabbed, but he’s also conditioned to interacting with humans more than borrowers, so he’s not going to be put off by the kid’s size. He grew up with a Sasquatch, after all.

Valentine’s Day Sneak Peek

As a gift to my followers, have a sneak peek from a future Brothers Apart story!

Curled into a ball, Sam listened impatiently to the voices that echoed above him.

They had stumbled onto a case up by the Great Lakes one morning that had both of their spidey senses tingling. A man was found dead in his home while his wife was out. All doors locked, the alarm system armed and fully functional. The oddest part was his heart had stopped without warning (he was only 40). In the subsequent autopsy that had been run on the body, the doctors had found, of all things, a cupid’s arrow pin in his heart.

Like it had simply materialized there by magic.

Needless to say, the authorities were baffled. Dean was betting on a witch, and Sam wasn’t about to bet against him.

Which was why he was curled up into a ball, safely tucked in Dean’s hand and waiting for an opportunity to get out and search for the hexbag while Dean smooth-talked his way into the house.

He couldn’t help but squirm a little in place, trying to find a comfortable position as Dean walked into the house at last. The huge fingers cupped around his body flexed open a little at his struggles, giving him space.

Even as he gratefully shifted to a more comfortable position in the increasingly hot and enclosed area, one of the fingers he was leaning against twitched in what he recognized as Morse Code.

Bitch.

Smirking, Sam pounded out his own shorthand into the fingers with sharp punches, telling Dean off.

Jerk.

Touch Deprivation

anonymous asked:

Random ask here, but when a little is living with a human, even though I know they are technically touched or manhandled all the time, do they ever experience touch deprivation? I don’t know how even being held to a chest in a hug compares to someone the same size interacting with you and to what extent that would affect you…

Well, that’s probably going to depend on the exact little in question.

For instance, I hate touching. The fact that someone could pick me up and move me around at any time would bother the hell out of me, and I’d be twitchy from too much touching!

Some would likely yearn for same-size touch, wishing to find another of their kind. Especially if they’re in forced captivity, instead of the mutually supportive relationship like Sam and Dean have.

This actually came up in the Sad Oscar AU (aka Brothers Consulted). Oscar spent a long time with humans that could and would pick him up whenever they wanted, and it’s just not the same…

Oscar was so shocked by the sight of someone with such small features that he didn’t even flinch back from the sudden embrace. She was taller than him, but her thin frame was at his scale. No giant hands or looming faces to force him to go wherever they wanted. As it sank in, he shuddered with sheer relief and hid his eyes against her shoulder.

One frail arm returned the hug, but even Oscar’s earnest cling was timid and weak. The hand on his cane gripped it so tightly it shook.

Oscar had had no shortage of physical contact since his capture. From Noriko to Charlotte, no human had any qualms about grabbing him up in a relentless grasp, hugging him or simply carrying him around. He was no stranger to touch, and yet he might as well be touch starved.

“S-someone came,” he muttered, almost more to himself than to the stranger holding him now.

A Small Announcement and Updates

For Valentine’s day, we’re going to release a special sneak peek from the future of Brothers Apart! Be sure to stay tuned!

When more entries come in for the 2019 Brothers Apart Contest, I’ll create a post that lists all the entries and where to find them. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone creates! So far we just have one, and that’s from a deviantart creator.

The contest is open until April 10th, and if there are enough entries, more prizes will be added.

As always, if anyone is lucky enough to guess what’s going on in a story, we will give a special sneak peek of that, and if anyone guesses the knack of one of the characters with an unannounced knack, we’ll reveal it! Good luck!

A Burglary at Baker Street will continue posting every Sunday and Wednesday at 9pm est. Be sure to leave us a review if you’re enjoying it!

The wordpress blog and the tumblr site are open to any questions or comments you might have, feel free to submit anonymously!

Thank you all for coming along with us on these stories! You’re what makes writing worth it!

thepoisonlily asked:

After Jacob in Wonderland, did Jacob remain with Sam and Dean until his injuries (at least the big ones) healed or did he have to make up a story for his family and friends?

Jacob had some adjusting to do before he could let himself go home. He’s learned quite a bit about hiding big secrets ever since he joined the team, but there was a lot that happened in that story. He would be way too haunted and twitchy if he went home too soon.

Luckily, they happen to know a whole village of sprites that have healing magic. Jacob was mother-henned by the Winchester brothers at the end of the story (and probably after, too), and the sprites would be no different. Especially Rischa, who knew the depth of his trauma and pain the minute he came back to the village. She wouldn’t have told the brothers since he didn’t want them to worry even more, but she’s told Bowman enough for him to be able to help Jacob out.

After he got his injuries patched up enough, he went home to try to keep himself busy, but he found himself visiting Wellwood a lot more often after Wonderland.

Djinn dreams

anonymous asked:

If the brothers got stuck in a djinn dream, what would their dreams be? Would it be different in the particular AUs?

It would certainly depend on the AU in question.

In Brothers Apart, Sam’s biggest issue is the fact that he blames himself for Mallory getting killed. Meanwhile, Dean wishes that Sam had never been cursed and definitely blames himself for not finding Sam before he was dragged from the room.

Every djinn dream would be different, and none of them would be perfect (djinn are so good at that). Like if Dean wished that he’d saved Sam in time, he might end up living in a different version AU… for instance, where he saves Sam at his own expense, or instead of leaving Sam behind, he’d see him and grab him.

Are stories like Brothers Saved and Brothers Together djinn dreams? Are we all in a djinn dream now?

Oh, hey. So I went back and looked in my old BA ideas, and apparently had a bit scripted out for Sam falling into a djinn dream, so have an old drabble!

It’s a bit short, but I like it.

“Dean!” Sam cries out, desperately running along the banister.

I have to reach him… have to help…

He almost doesn’t see the attack coming. A tattoo covered hand tries to sweep him from the railing and only misses when Sam dodges to the side at the last second. Another hand tries to snatch at him as Sam sees Dean rise up, using the distraction provided by his borrower-sized brother to grab the blood-soaked knife from where it fell during the struggle.

Even as Dean plunges his knife into the creature’s back, the fingers brush against Sam with an almost loving caress.

The world fades before he even realizes he’s falling.

“You haven’t had nightmares like this for years, Sam.” – Mallory in the dream.

Pocket!lock continued

myimaginedairybeard asked:

“… in his panic, did the only thing he could think to do.” In the pocket!lock, is Sherlock going to attack/stab John or something?

Thankfully for John’s fingers, no. Sherlock’s go-to when he’s outmatched like this is to outsmart and outrun. He’s less inclined to go looking for a fight, or trouble he can’t get out of.

Let’s see how that’s working out for him…

A shadow fell over Sherlock, and he had just enough time to see the mug before it dropped on top of him and trapped him in darkness.

Even with his limp, John was much faster than Sherlock could hope to be on his own.

Welp.
