March 24th excerpt:

He brushed against Sam’s arm when he was shifting in place under the green canopy. With a mumble, Sam rolled a little closer, his arm landing over Jacob’s small body. Jacob flinched in surprise from the sudden appearance of an arm longer than his body. It was only a moment before Sam shifted again, pulling the small hunter closer by instinct as soon as the shivers that wracked his body were noticed even in the depths of sleep.

Sam buried his head next to Jacob under the blankets, effectively pinning him to his chest the way one would a teddy bear at night. His grip was gentle, keeping away from the sore and bruised ribs that the tiny hunter was nursing. Sam gave a brief mumble of contentment before he fully drifted into sleep again.

This is a fun idea! They should do more with spirits that have unfinished business, it feels like that’s an untapped well of ideas just waiting for someone to jump in. If anyone wants to write this out, we’d all love to read it! We’ve got quite a few stories on our plate saved up, so we wouldn’t be able to tackle it.

Random brain farts is 80% of what I come up with.

On a side note, I’ll definitely be having a spirit with “unfinished business” showing up in the future…

March 23rd excerpt:

“Dean,” Sam interrupted gently. The changing channels froze. “Jacob picked Star Wars.

Dean glanced over at them in surprise, a flush rising to his face in embarrassment. “He did?” His eyes flicked back to the television, switching back to the movie. “Sorry about that,” he mumbled, clearly upset.

Jacob chuckled sheepishly, once again reminded that just communicating with Dean had become an obstacle. His tiny lungs would need to work hard to produce enough sound for the huge hunter to actually register.

The thing about Jacob is he always seems to have a Grab First reaction. Wee kiddo Jacob is not that different, though luckily for little Sam he’s not a rough child by nature. In fact he’s much more likely to hug than to be mean. He doesn’t like to see people upset, and hugs are a good solution, right?

His parents just want to take care of their kid. They don’t have any expectations of a very tiny kiddo showing up in their room, but they’re both nice people. Even if Nicholas Andris is HUGE, Sam doesn’t need to be scared of him.

Of course, poor Sam won’t know any of this when he first encounters them!

Jacob paused, noticing the tiny voice at the edge of hearing. He couldn’t tell if his papa heard it too, but he was still looking at him expectantly. Behind him, Jacob could see his mama leaning to watch curiously. He pursed his lips and clutched his toy trucks closer while he rapidly processed the situation to determine if they suspected something.

“Uh uh,” he said, squirming away from his Dad’s hand to walk hurriedly around the second bed. “I’m only playing trucks today, see?” He held up the trucks to display them even as he sidled into the narrow space between the bed and the wall.

His mama raised an eyebrow at him. “Jacob, are you telling the truth? You know you’re not supposed to lie.”

“I am! I’m just playing trucks!” he insisted.

His father stood up with a quiet creak of his joints as they hoisted all of his huge body up. His mama stood again and walked around her tall husband to stand at the foot of the second bed and look appraisingly at Jacob and his pocket.

“Jacob,” his papa said gently. “Did I hear something? Do you have a mouse trapped in your pocket?” His deep voice was kind, patient with the boy, but also stern.

His mama was in charge of the really stern looks, and Jacob inched away from her even more as she leveled one on him. “Jacob Nicholas Andris, you tell us the truth right now or I’m going to come and check your pockets myself.”

March 22nd excerpt:

“Really, Dean?” Sam asked, gesturing at the boots that were up on the covers.

“What are you, my mother?” Dean griped. When Sam’s bitchface didn’t relent, he rolled his eyes with a glare of his own sent Sam’s way.

Fine,” he said snippily, giving in. Jacob smirked at the back-and-forth, enjoying the normalcy to be found in the banter. He was even tempted to play devil’s advocate and point out that it wasn’t like Dean’s boots could get the old motel room covers any dirtier.

Dean pulled off the boots, one after the other, and lightly tossed them towards his duffel lying next to the dresser the television was on. “Okay, new rule. Sam doesn’t get to pick the movie,” he announced with a smirk sent in Sam’s direction.

It’s so nice to hear from you! We miss you just as much, trust me.

Since I’ve always got more to say, we were thinking that everyone might want to do a lil “Ask the authors” block this weekend, to start getting back on our feet a little. Work’s still crazy, Zelda hype is a little calmer, and we’ve started writing again. It is an addiction we can never quit.

So, mark your calendar and come up with some questions for us! This Saturday and Sunday! Asks done at author discretion, feel free to ask us what’s going on in our lives, in our writing, in our gaming. It’ll be a little more open a forum than the regular BA asks.

Authors – @nightmares06, @neonthebright and @borrowedtimeandspace!

Be sure to send us in asks, too! The flow of asks has tapered off quite a bit in recent weeks, we’re still open for them!

And, for a little update on everything else going on:

  • I finally broke my block with Brothers Apart! I managed to finish the second season finale! That puts Brothers Apart finished up through story 14 (barring any short stories that might crop up between now and when they post).
  • Once The Study of the Four, Bothering Bowman and Return to Oz post, we’ll have another poll and Brothers Apart will be in it! But it probably won’t hold a candle next to the horror story in the vote. Because let’s face it, the horror story has been waiting a very long time to go.
  • @neonthebright and @nightmares06 decided to focus on one AU at a time for a bit to scrape together the ideas we have mulling around. Currently, since BA finally got into the third season, we’re writing an extra special crossover, once more with our bbys.
  • Brothers Consulted continues on, and we’d be lying if we said we didn’t have ideas for future superlock AUs…

8 facts about Stan Baker

borrowedtimeandspace:

@nightmares06 tagged me forever and ever ago, and I ought to be putting content on this here blog of mine ^^; So here we go!

Rules:
Post these rules.
Post 8 facts about your character.
Tag 8 other characters.
Post their names along with their creators’ avatars.

1. Stan (full name: Stanley Aaron Baker) is a pseudo-freelance agent who works alongside John Watson, Sherlock Holmes, and Sam and Dean Winchester in Brothers Consulted, my collab with nightmares06.

2. His character took us both by surprise. He was initially just going to be some suit to get the boys from A to B, but his personality shone out of nowhere and now he’s here to stay!

3. He is 27 years old and 6′ even, the closest in age to Dean out of the Baker Street crew.

4. Against the odds, he and Dean Winchester hit it off when they first meet, immediately developing an easygoing yet playful rapport that puts them both at ease when interacting with someone so different in size.

5. Stan is Irish by descent, but he was born and raised in London. He and his family in Ireland are close, so occasionally a bit of the accent will slip into his speech when he’s not thinking about it.

6. Much of Stan’s family served in the military. He grew up formally and informally training in combat with his elders, even his older brothers, but never served himself. Even so, he is a natural born leader and he carries a militaristic air when he’s on a job that requires those skills.

7. Though he keeps it a secret from the more conservative members of his family, Stan is engaged to his long-term partner. His fiancee’s name is Nathan Sullivan, and though he is a civilian, Stan keeps him up to speed on the less confidential aspects of his work. He knows Nathan would never betray him.

8. Stan and Nathan own a German shepherd. Her name is Juno and she sheds a lot and they love her.

March 21st excerpt:

Sam rolled his eyes, nudging Jacob good-naturedly with an elbow. “I could give Bowman a piggyback if I tried,” he snarked back gamely, knowing his own strength. “So unless you’ve been putting on some weight that you’ve been hiding, I’ll be fine.”

March 20th excerpt:

With a quick grab, Sam nabbed the back of Jacob’s hoodie. It took one smooth motion to pull him out, dangling him like a kitten held by the back of its neck. Jacob’s feet were only over open air for a few seconds before he was lowered to the tabletop next to his aluminum foil cup, hitting the ground with a light thump that was inaudible to Dean.

Dean arched an eyebrow at Jacob. “You must really like french fries,” he drawled lazily, smirking at the sight of the bedraggled hunter standing down there.
