Walt and Mallory Watch

Walt and Mallory are the two people that saved Sam from the witch when he was ten years old. No one knows what his fate would have been if they hadn’t been in the room during the attack.

They lost their daughter, Briella Watch, a year previous to Sam’s rescue, and in many ways her loss was what prompted his rescue. Neither of them would stand to see any more children suffer, so when Walt happened upon the witch talking in a scrying pool and getting instructions to take both brothers, they took it upon themselves to find the boys and warn them. This warning came to late to save Sam from his curse.

Years later, when Dean discovers Sam hiding in his motel room and only standing four inches tall, their home is attacked. Mallory was killed off by the demon that took away Sam and Dean’s mother Mary. Walt was lucky enough to get knocked out of the danger zone, coming to in Krissy’s home days later to discover his wife was dead and his son had abandoned him.

After a hard year, Walt’s loss is offset by the return of his daughter, Bree. Sam and Dean saved her from her captors and brought her back home. For the first time in his life, he’s discovering that humans might not all be as terrible as he thought.

Extras:

  • With Walt standing at a height of 3.8 inches, this would make him Dean’s equal in height at 6′1 if they were to stand at the same height.
  • Mallory, on the other hand, is incredibly petite. At only 3 inches tall, she would come out to 4′10. She always used to say she likes her boys tall!
  • Walt is a tanner and Mallory is an expert seamstress. These skills are incredibly useful when nothing is catered to your size.
  • Before Sam and his knife, Walt would face off against rats in the motel with nothing more than his old razor. Dean would be impressed with his stubborn determination.
  • All of Sam’s clothes were fashioned by his parents, and his boots were handcrafted by Walt. They might look a little rough around the edges compared to Dean’s but they work just as well.

This will be touched upon heavily in the future a few times. Sam’s people are undeniably caught up in this storyline from start to finish, including Bobby’s background. After all, they’re the ones that saved him from the witch in the first place.

Does anyone have any theories about these supposed four inch borrowers? What they are, where they came from… anything you’ve had on your mind?

Yes! The pranks must happen! It’s all fun and games until someone’s clothing gets doused in itching powder, right?

This will definitely be happening in the future… anyone have any good pranks on their mind? I’ve got a few of my own that will be happening, but the more ideas the merrier!

“I think I got lucky, having a brother like Dean. He hasn’t come close to stepping on me since we met back up. I think all those years apart wore on him. He seems afraid anytime I’m out of sight. Of course, I know better than to let my own guard down. Anywhere that humans walk, normally, I stay away from unless I’m absolutely certain I’m safe. You don’t live at this size without learning a few things about safety and being cautious. I think having Kara around made him a lot more vigilant. She has a habit of popping up when you least expect it. She keeps slipping away from Christian and Walt just so she can visit Dean.

“Oh, and if we’re talking about Dean accidentally grabbing me, he’s already mistaken me for a screwdriver, put his hand in the pocket I was sitting in and the asshat dumped a dirty t-shirt on my head and grabbed me with it. I thought he was going to do his laundry with me in it! Jerk.”

“He keeps saying that, but it’s harder than it sounds, y’know? He spent years on his own, and I want to do right by him, but here I am startling the guy constantly. It’s hard to not feel guilty when he jumps at a door slamming in the distance, and ever since I got him away from those people, he’s been extra fidgety, even when it’s just me around. If I’d been there the way I’m supposed to be, he wouldn’t have to deal with any of that… That’s on me.”

Oh yes, definitely! Sam is stuck with a brother who loves to flirt, there’s no question. This should show up in the future, once I get a good flirting setup (being ace, I’m not the best at the flirt, that’s for sure).

Sam would be stuck in there, grumbling the entire time. He can only do so much from a pocket if there’s a girl around Dean, after all. Can’t let her figure out he’s got a pint-sized brother squirreled away after all.

I might not have done any flirting (yet!), but a buddy of mine, neonthebright, actually wrote a fic based on Brothers Apart, and here’s a little passage of Sam stuck with his flirtatious brother:

The girl at the front desk didn’t look to be any older than Dean.  That was a stroke of good luck.  He put on his most winning smile and sauntered up to the desk, leaning an elbow on it casually.  “Hey there, miss,” he greeted her amicably.  In his pocket, Sam put his hand over his face with a sigh.  You’re here to work, not flirt, Dean, he thought, though he knew he would probably never talk that habit out of his brother.

She smiled slowly, the look of someone caught off guard.  His smile had definitely disarmed her.  Still got it, Dean thought.  “Hello, sir.  How can I help you?  Are you here to visit someone, or are you a new volunteer?”  She almost sounded hopeful.

“Visiting,” Dean answered.  “I’m looking for Belinda Walters.  Can ya tell me where her room is?”

If you want to read more, check out the fic! It takes place right after the First Interlude:

A big Sam would have him underestimating his own strength… things are so much lighter now! Who knew he’d be so strong? And Dean would have to make sure Sam knew where he was at all times, since the younger brother is nowhere near as used to watching where he walks as the older brother is. And we all know how Dean is with heights. The poor guy will not enjoy hanging out on a shoulder the way Sam does at all!

Maybe he can at least discover the joys of giant pie, if Sam can figure out how to use a credit card and buy him some.

There will definitely be some size shenanigans in the future of the series! Things would be too easy to just leave things alone, right? Those boys have to stay on their toes!

Sneak Peek!

Now that Season One of Brothers Apart is over, the boys will have more obstacles to face and will need to work together as a team like never before!

Here’s a snippet from the upcoming eighth part of BA: The Schism of Fire and Water

(Warning: words and phrases may change before the chapter this is a part of is released)

Sam realized that Dean was doing anything but sleeping. His face had the familiar stubborn cast of a person trying to ignore the world around them, instead of his usual relaxed posture. The reason he hadn’t reacted to Sam became clear when he caught sight of the earbuds in Dean’s ears.

Dean just wasn’t going to make this easy on him.

With a world-weary sigh, Sam jogged over to the bed. If Dean refused to listen to him, he’d find a way to make Dean listen, whatever it took. A brief shiver went up Sam’s back when he remembered how big Dean was, but it faded away faster this time.

Sam grabbed the edge of the bed cover, hauling himself up the sheer cliff with no need for his fishhook or line. A climbing surface like the cover offered plenty of handholds and places to grip. He was careful to stay clear of the hand that was hanging off the bed, spotting it silently twitching in time with the song Dean was listening to at the moment. He didn’t want to get knocked off the bed by accident.

Once he made it to the top of the bed Sam wasted no time in climbing up Dean himself. He felt the hunter freeze up under him the second he made contact, then smirked as Dean tried to force himself to relax and ignore Sam. You already gave yourself away, jackass. That wasn’t exactly your most subtle move. I know you’re awake and you know I’m here.

Sam jogged up Dean’s stomach, ignoring the way the uneven ground gave way beneath his feet. That was normal enough for him these days. It was hardly the first time he’d walked on Dean, though it was the first he’d been ignored while walking up. For all the good that would do Dean. Sam felt a spark of determination fill him. Dean would listen to him.

With that in mind, Sam brought his boot down on the cord of Dean’s headphones, yanking one of the buds out of his ears. Dean’s eyes flashed open before he could catch himself, an annoyed look in his stare when he caught sight of Sam standing on his chest with arms stubbornly crossed over his chest.

“Dude, you’re standing on my headphones,” Dean grumbled, the ground under Sam vibrating. The quiet sound of Smoke on the Water leaked out of the free bud.

“Yeah. That’s kind of the point,” Sam said, meeting Dean levelly in the eyes. “We need to talk.”
