Dean noticed that the book where the kid had sat was now empty, the M&M abandoned. Dean reached forward, plucking up the M&M between two fingers and his brow furrowing in confusion when he saw the little shadow hiding behind the bread.
With a sigh, Dean reached around to pluck the kid up. “You’ve gotta stay in sight,” he scolded.
Kara might not enter the lounge, since she remains a side character that is only in the stories for a short time, but she will most certainly be meeting Bowman!
Bowman, like many wood sprites, might have some private concern about this very tiny nestling and how much food she’s getting. She’s so skinny and she can’t get energy from the sun, so would someone please feed her?
Dean has this… bad habit in Brothers Divided… where he tries to ‘adopt’ smols that don’t want to be adopted…
Jacob might end up with a pocketmate.
One who’s especially squeaky and timid, and honestly? Jacob would kind of understand why Dean got the urge to protect the little guy. Oscar has a very Adopt Me kind of aura and very few people are immune to it. Dean doesn’t stand any more chance of resisting than Oscar does of avoiding the pocket.
Dean elbowed Sam in the side, one side of his mouth quirked. “Might wanna…”
Sam saw Oscar’s troubles. “Oh!” He quickly reached for the little yellow candy, plucking it from between the kid’s tiny hands. “Here, I can help.”
Taking the M&M, Sam lightly rapped it against the table, until he saw the top start to splinter sugar and a bit of the chocolate was visible from inside. “There’s peanuts in them,” he explained to Oscar as he held it out again. “Chocolate and peanuts and candy and yum!”
Thank you so much! We love that you love the stories and I am super glad you thought of my dorks after your magical encounter.
Jacob would be the most surprised about it, I bet. Butterflies usually avoid humans (or anything really), so to have one land on him would catch him off guard. He might balk and then freeze, all crosseyed, and Bowman would have to look back and see why his giant went silent. Of course, he’d have a laugh about the way he looked with a butterfly chilling on his face.
Rischa would be especially proud of Jacob for being calm enough for the butterfly to trust him. She’s pretty fond of those fluttery friends.
“Chocolate’s my favorite,” Sam finally managed to say. “Dean likes licorice.” He wrinkled his nose in disgust.
“Oh…” Oscar frowned in dubious confusion, glancing over at Dean but doubting he’d learn anything. He had never heard of licorice, but if it was edible he’d probably like it well enough. Oscar had decided early in life that he liked food in general for the content feeling it put in his middle.
He sat down with his yellow M&M held close and cradled in his lap. He definitely couldn’t bite it the way Sam could bite several at once.
“She’s gonna get seen! ” Stan hissed, clutching at his hair in distress. His nerves were strung taut and tightened further the longer Arrietty spent in the open, nowhere near cover. All the boy would have to do was glance over, and she’d be noticed.
Sure enough, as Arrietty was getting up to leave, she knocked over an action figure, and it clattered to the floor far below. Stan couldn’t hold on a gasp or keep himself from backing up an inch or two as the human on the screen was alert and after the borrower in his room instantly.
It amuses me every time! Sam and Dean will take good care of the lil nerd!

Bonus excerpt:
Instinctively putting out a hand to reassure Stan, Dean lightly touched the kid’s back, curling his hand around him for a bit of shelter. “Don’t worry, it’s not real,” he reminded him. He didn’t want the movie night to worry the kid into losing hair over it. “I’m sure she’ll figure a way out.”
“Watch!” Sam interrupted, right as the kid slammed a container over the girl’s head.
Stan gave another gasp, scooting closer to Dean’s curled fingers to peek through them. Though he was still highly concerned for Arrietty, Dean’s comforting gesture helped separate him from the movie just enough.
