Brothers Apart

(Story 1 of the Brothers Apart series)

Sam was hit with a witch’s curse when he was 10 and Dean was 14. Unable to find him or his attacker anywhere when the dust settled, John and Dean Winchester were eventually forced to give him up for dead. Unbeknownst to them, Sam was saved from the witch and adopted into a new family, and they’ve trained him to take care of himself as best he can in the world, and protected him from the witch’s gaze all these years. And someone very familiar will be staying at the motel he lives in, all unknowing. This sets off a chain of events that changes Sam’s life forever.

TTOL: The Trials of Logan

A+ guess on the name! You got it on the first try.

No one needs trials like this more than our favorite little punching bag, Logan Guthrie, antagonist of Bowman of Wellwood. An all-around unpleasant man.

Bobby looked away from Dean and Logan, turning a blind eye to whatever they did. “Want some help getting that blood out?” he offered Sam, sizing up the splotch and the dark spot around it from Rumsfeld’s saliva.

Sam glanced at it. “Sure. I’m kind of running low on jackets, anyway. We don’t exactly have a supply of them…”

“I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve,” Bobby assured the kid as he held out his hand. Once Sam was with him, they left the kitchen with Rumsfeld close behind, leaving the other pair to their own devices.

Dean stared at the jar in his hand with an assessing gaze, looking over the man inside. From their last encounter, time had not been kind on Logan. His clothing was showing wear and his hair was a mess. A trip to the barber wouldn’t be out of the question, either.

By contrast, even directly after a hunt, Dean’s hair was spiked and his jacket in pristine condition. His jeans were ripped by his thigh, and his boots had some dirt caked to the bottom. Despite a few frays, it was a far cry from Logan’s tattered appearance.

“I think we can do better than that,” Dean said dryly, flipping the jar upside down.

March 25th excerpt:

Flipping the cards back into one pile, Dean held them close to his hand so Stan could get a better look. “With these, we can get into what we need, and they don’t find out who we are, so they can’t arrest us. It’s really a win-win situation, whatever the cops say. We don’t get our asses in jail, they get the monsters they don’t believe in killed off.”

“Ohh, okay,” Stan nodded in understanding. Humans were huge and couldn’t be quite that stealthy. Even Stan couldn’t on his own, his lack of training and red hair a dead giveaway without a spell hiding him.

“So, it’s like a glamour spell, but without the magic,” Stan inferred aloud, managing to put it in a way that made it relatable to his experience.

Is there another sneak peek for brothers united?

We’ve actually paused on writing that story just like Brothers Discovered, and ended up working on a bit more angsty stories while work was stressful, but we can spare ya a peek!

The cry of fear from in Sam’s hands galvanized him into action, and he squirmed away from Dean’s reaching hand. “No!” he cried out, protesting his older brother’s grab. He twisted out of reach, keeping his hands shut tight around the kid. “You’ll hurt him! I promised!”

There was a moment of silence, and Sam looked over his shoulder to see Dean frozen. “Sam,” Dean said slowly, his eyebrows pinching in concern. “What do you have in your hands?”

“Promise not to grab?” Sam asked, sticking his lip out stubbornly.

“Promise, shorty,” Dean held up his hands and wiggled his fingers. “But I need to know what you have. No secrets.”

Sam sighed, and shifted onto his knees. “He’s real scared,” he explained, cracking his hands open slowly. “You gotta be careful.

Dean blinked in surprise at the ‘he,’ then leaned forward as Sam’s hands opened to reveal the world’s tiniest kid. “Sonovabit–

“Dean!”

The scold cut Dean off, and all he could do was close his mouth and stare, for once rendered speechless.

Oscar was speechless too, though he felt like his heart had to be pounding loud enough for them to hear it. His ears throbbed after their short bickering, and his hands were clamped over the sides of his head. Somehow, he’d managed to stay curled up even when Sam moved around and jerked him away from Dean.

Now, though, he trembled so much it was amazing he could keep any position. Loud voices, huge hands, huge eyes, the sensations all swirled around him in a confusing whirlpool

He hiccupped and scrubbed at his eyes with the back of a hand. More tears replaced what he’d wiped away, and he kept the hand in front of his face to hide the only way he could.

“Dude, where’d you even find him?” Dean shot at Sam, rapid fire.

Thinking of the bitty Stan AU and a previous answer… not only is Dean’s gonna notice pretty quick that Stan is a redhead and Irish… but also he is a smol. Smol redheaded Irishman. Obviously a leprechaun. Yep yep. Lucky for him he wasn’t also wearing all green when Dean grabbed him.

Yeah, poor Stan when Dean thinks he’s a fae! The lil guy definitely has no hidden pots of gold, and really doesn’t appreciate the Winchesters running their tests on him to see what sort of supernatural creature he is.

Stan barely had time to curl into a ball and fret about what was going to happen to him before gravity shifted around him and the fingers keeping him trapped unfurled, leaving the little guy sprawled on his palm. He scrambled to sit up, freezing again under the gazes of two unknown humans now.

Sam stared as Dean opened his hand, revealing the tiny figure in the center of his palm. “Found ‘im when the witch tossed me,” Dean said, a trace of satisfaction slipping into his voice as he remembered the quick thinking reactions that had lead to the tiny guy’s capture. “Whatcha think he is? Some kind of leprechaun?” Shifting one of the fingers close to Stan, Dean lightly nudged the shock of red hair. “Maybe the witch made a deal with the fae…”
