Oscar Meets Jacob (1/5)

What if indeed! Poor Oscar is one of my smallest characters and Jacob is one of my tallest! This is such a cute AU idea. Jacob’s meeting with Bowman was so touch and go, because the little sprite snarked up a storm! Oscar is definitely not the same personality type, so it was fun to see how differently Jacob would act with his first tiny encounter with such a timid little guy.

There was nothing interesting on TV, but that didn’t really come as a surprise. Jacob didn’t watch a lot of television, and decent movies were tough to find on the channels offered by the kinds of small-town motels he chose on his frequent road trips. They went for basic, and that was always hit-or-miss.

Not that Breckenridge was particularly small. Jacob had chosen a little motel in the summer, however, a time when business in an area known for skiing could take a dip. Mountains stood tall and proud against the sky out the window while he lounged on the bed. It was a good place to stop and rest, even with the tacky decorations and worn-down character of the place.

While he settled on a channel showing old cowboy movies, Jacob mused about staying an extra day in Breckenridge. He could wander around and enjoy the mountain air, and the jagged horizon that stood tall and stoic all around. It contrasted with his usually endless horizon view back in Iowa, where the sky was a dome.

A quiet sound derailed his thoughts. On the edge of hearing, occurring between lines on the movie, Jacob thought he heard a rustling noise. It ended as soon as he heard it, but his ears primed to the sound to listen harder anyway. He pinpointed the source easily: his backpack.

In The Darkness by The_Raconteur_24601

Something evil is afoot in a small rural town in Midwestern America, and it’s up to Sam and Dean to find out what. With the help of a small woman named Zepheera, they’ll do their best to save the town and Zepheera’s time-travelling alien friend from the greatest evil the Winchesters have ever faced.

This is a contest entry for nightmares06. It features characters from my Doctor Who/Borrowers crossover series ‘Borrowed Time (and Space)’ with a little tweak in Zepheera’s size to put her to Sam’s scale. This is not canon for BTAS and takes place sometime before Taken in Brothers Apart.

Nowhere Else to Turn by kimstaticchild

Reunited brothers Sam and Dean Winchester are still adjusting to life on the road together, with Sam being only 4 inches tall and having been living in hiding thanks to a witch’s curse.

On what begins as a nondescript night exploring a motel room, Sam has an encounter with Ziana, a confrontational borrower in the walls who in no way wants to deal with Sam, his strange background, and especially his giant of a brother. Unfortunately, she may not have a choice in the matter.

A Little Haunting and Hunting by @werifesteria20

Oscar scrambled for a grip on the hood, his pale knuckles turning white he held on so hard. “B-but s-school is full of humans!” he stuttered out, his voice barely more than a frightened squeak. He couldn’t fathom how Sam tolerated being around that many bigger folk all gathered in one space.

I don’t think Oscar agrees with Sam about this being a good idea…

In case you were wondering what little Oscar looks like, wonder no more! The amazing Heartstores has drawn him. This is how Oscar looks as an adult. As you might be able to tell, he’s still not a very tall borrower at all! Living in the motel means sparse findings sometimes, and his lack of a consistently good diet has left him malnourished and stunted his growth. Hopefully Sam and Dean can help kid!Oz out with that in Hershey Kisses and Salt Lines!

It’s starting to look like I might want to start writing out Bobby’s encounter with the trapped borrower. As for the field borrowers… stay tuned.

For Sam’s family… at least now that they’ve met Dean, they aren’t as wary of humans as they once were. They will be more open to meeting a person like Bobby. Whether it happens or not… only time will tell.

Breaking in His New Journal

The early morning sun found Sam perched on the nightstand, legs dangling off the edge as he watched a news report from a state away. The shower ran in the background, filling the air with the reassuring patter of water. It washed away the disturbing silence that never failed to unnerve Sam after his recent abduction. The tiny scrapings of a lockpick in the door continually sounded in his head when he was left on his own. Like now.

On the television, a helicopter cam panned over the landscape, showing the destroyed half of a town, crumpled wreckage everywhere.

Confusion runs rampant as the town has been declared unsafe for habitation. The earthquake last week coincides with the tornado yesterday down to the exact date and time, spreading rumors of a town-wide curse that afflicts it all. All superstitious notions aside, evacuation procedures are being followed by the mayor.”

Sam frowned to himself as he contemplated the report. Two natural disasters, spaced apart by exactly seven days, down to the second? “Definitely not natural,” he muttered under his breath.

He brushed a hand over the new journal sitting on his lap, loving the leather covering on it. There was still room in his older journal, but he was eager to break in the new one. The pages were even gold leafed, giving the small book a professional feel.

He opened it to the first page. While Dean was in the shower, Sam filled in his name, claiming the book as his own in delicate handwriting that humans couldn’t read without a magnifying glass to help. Sam Winchester. After a moment of hesitation, at the bottom of the page, in bold lettering, he put If lost, return to Dean Winchester, figuring it couldn’t hurt to have a back-up plan in place if it ever got lost.

No one knew who Sam Winchester was, after all.
