Brothers Grounded can have Jacob take them to Wellswood!

They’re on their way!

“We should scout the area before it gets dark,” Dean said, getting up and stretching. “Make sure we find a safe home for the night.”

“Right,” Jacob muttered, a more subdued smile on his face. Regardless of how much trust he’d managed to bargain for himself, the two of them would need some space to themselves. Fascinated or not, he couldn’t deny them that.

“Just keep yourselves outta trouble,” he joked, reaching out to nudge Dean in the side before he was done stretching. As before, he drew his hand back quickly to avoid the retribution that he was sure the little guy would offer. “Gotta be ready for a bit of a hike tomorrow.”

Dean recoiled in surprise, his face falling into a flat expression at the playful gesture. He threw up his arms in frustration at how quick the teenager could move, faster than he could react to. “Well unless the village is a few feet in, I think you’ll be doin’ most of the hikin’, Godzilla,” he retorted in annoyance, his Midwestern drawl thickening.

Sam tried to hide a snicker behind a hand, entertained by the innocent interactions between the pair. He hadn’t been bored once since they met Jacob. “So how far in the forest is the village, anyway?” he asked.

This Jacob met Bowman before he met the shrunken bros and thus is perfectly comfortable poking Dean just like he does his winged friend. I love it.

XD Dean is so offended at how pokeable he is. He was trying to stretch, ffs.

What about the brothers giving the sprites a good climbing display in Brothers Grounded? Maybe because Bowman made some stupid remark about how they’d have trouble getting around, or simply doesn’t believe it’s possible for wingless small folk to even survive without them? Also I absolutely imagine Dean having a fight with a squirrel over food and royally kicking its ass. Or Sam exploring the cottonwood tree at night without any lights ~Sassy (P.S: I’m over the moon you using my name suggestion)

It’s a great name! Those poor grounded brothers, they’ve never even been able to fly! How can they live like that?

I’m sure Sam is going to shock and awe the sprites when he climbs 😉 He’s confident in his skills and doesn’t mind showing off a time or two, while Dean won’t let anyone make fun of his skills. He might not be the best at heights, but he knows a thing or two.

Dean would totally rock that squirrel.

The sprites would be so amazed at how Sam can see in the dark! How is that even possible!

There’s a lot about these strange sprite-sized humans to be amazed about. They’re wingless, and yet that doesn’t stop them from reaching the tops of the trees if they wanted. Though they can’t get energy from the sun, so they’d better have a snack before they try an adventure like that.

Jacob: 5, 35; Bowman: 1, 13; Elias: 3, 9; Eral: 15, 25

( From this post

So many!  ❤  My lesser known bbys get a chance to shine, too.

Jacob

5. List 3 fears; one “surface level” fear, one “repressed” fear, and one “deep dark” fear.

Surface Level Fear: He fears being clumsy around the sprites

Repressed Fear: He used to have a fear of getting so lost no one would ever find him. This has worn down somewhat, but he does make sure to bring a compass when he goes hiking.

Deep Dark Fear:  He’s afraid of forgetting what his dad was like. As the years go by, it’s harder and harder to remember, and this bothers him at the back of his mind.

35. If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

Jacob is very secure in his sense of self after a lot of self meditation and such, but he knows he can always improve. He would probably try to aim for knowing what to say in somber situations, because he really doesn’t know what to say; they’re like his weak point and he might just go for an awkward pat on the back or a somewhat lame condolence.

Bowman

1. What is one word to shut them up?

If that’s even possible with Bowman, haha. In all seriousness, it’s not a word but a threat against his wings will definitely give him pause. Not a very long pause, mind.

13. Which of the 7 Deadly Sins best describes them?

Pride, for sure. Bowman is super proud of his wings and his skills. The other sins don’t really fit him much at all, either. Wrath is a solid maybe, but he’s really just all bluster.

Elias

3. What is the worst pain they’ve ever experienced?

Elias has been in a lot of fights, and some of them were pretty bad. He would say that the worst pain was a gut wound, one that nearly wiped him out completely. However, the actual worst pain he’s dealt with was more metaphysical. In last year’s nanowrimo project, he had a good deal of his divinity ripped out of him. It hurt deeply, even if he didn’t recognize it right away.

9. What is their greatest physical weakness?

This is a tough question for a character who’s already so strong as a baseline. But, as a mortal, Elias has plenty of weaknesses. However, in his canon, there is a material called Korvasin Grey Metal that would cause many of his demigod magics to flee for a time, and that would leave him really vulnerable.

Eral

15. Who do they hate the most?

He hasn’t encountered them again since he met them, but he hates the poachers who came into his forest and killed pretty much every other arbor pixie with a misfired magical trap. It wasn’t meant for them, but that doesn’t stop him from resenting these people, and the fact that they took him away after that doesn’t help either.

25. Have they ever been betrayed by someone they thought they could trust?

He used to travel with a group of adventurers before he met Elias. One of them actually sold him to a black market at one point, and he almost didn’t manage to escape. When he did, there was some hell to pay.

This one … got lost in my inbox. I’m sorry. It was on my main blog and I told myself however many months ago that I’d need to bring it over here and … heckin forgot.

But on to the question!

Bowman’s bed, like most wood sprite beds, is shaped right out of the floor and wall of his room. Since the wood sprites shape their houses out of the living tree branches and trunks, it’s made entirely of living wood and somewhat conforms to the shape of the wood grain. It has a divot in it for a cotton-stuffed mattress and his blankets, making a sort of raised nest.

Oh gosh, that sucks! I hope you feel better soon! I always headcannoned in Brothers Asunder that at some point Sam and Bowman started an escalating prank war that ended up spreading to include the other knights and patrolsprites and was only ended when Scar “accidentally” got a glob of pine sap to his hair

XD Scar had enough trouble when he found Sam trying to practice with one of the spare swords. Now his hair is sticky and Sam and Bowman are trying their best to not look guilty.

Send me some headcanons for distraction!

Sneak Peek

The boys are having a bit of trouble in this special crossover edition, For Science!

Dean continued to feel edgy, occasionally glancing ahead of them, to where Jacob held his best friend Bowman in a hand. Dean would be lying if he said he was completely comfortable around Jacob, especially when it came to the vulnerable sprites and Sam, but he reminded himself that Bowman had known Jacob longer and Sam had even gone into the kid’s hands once.

Dean’s fingers twitched at that memory.

They had only just reached the outskirts of the clearing, the sun shining against the tall grass with a merry twinkle, when it happened.

A breeze hit Dean, sending an icy shudder up his spine. He could faintly hear Sam exclaiming “Dean?!” in the distance, but it felt like they were separated by a long distance, instead of Sam lounging on his shoulder.

None of the blades of grass around them wafted in the breeze.

The world started to warp around Dean, the edge of the trees growing sharper. His head started to ache as his limbs grew heavy, a ringing in his ears drowning everything else out. “S-Sammy,” he tried to force out, wanting to warn his brother as the vertigo set in. He couldn’t even hear his own voice.

That was all he managed to get out. Dean felt himself collapsing on the ground. A tremble that might have been Jacob hitting the ground with him echoed up through the earth. Dean lost sight of Sam long before he landed. He hadn’t even felt Sam get thrown off.

The ringing grew in intensity.

As sleep claimed him at last, Dean could have sworn he heard a voice past it, chanting in Latin.

Jacob flinched so violently that he actually woke up with a startled breath. His eyes were wide for a second until he shut them and rubbed at them with his knuckles. He could tell by the wavering of the world around him that he was still drunk. And there was a wide green … wing? over him. Jacob shuddered and turned over in his place, trying to get comfortable again.

He brushed against Sam’s arm when he was shifting in place under the green canopy. With a mumble, Sam rolled a little closer, his arm landing over Jacob’s small body. Jacob flinched in surprise from the sudden appearance of an arm longer than his body. It was only a moment before Sam shifted again, pulling Jacob closer by instinct as soon as he noticed the shivers that wracked his body even in the depths of sleep.

Sam buried his head next to Jacob under the blankets, effectively pinning him to his chest the way one would a teddy bear at night. His grip was gentle, keeping away from the sore and bruised ribs that the tiny guy was nursing. Sam gave a brief mumble of contentment before he fully drifted into sleep again.

Jacob’s surprised squirming was practically nonexistent thanks to exhaustion. If he were at his full strength, sober, and not still shaking from residual fear, Jacob may have been able to squirm away. As it was, warmth that was all too hard to retain at his size was a welcome feeling. He settled with a weary sigh, knowing this was a battle he simply didn’t have the energy to fight. Sam’s heartbeat thumped steadily right behind his head, with Jacob nestled right next to his chest. It was a backdrop to him drifting off again, slipping back into a deep sleep aided by the copious amounts of alcohol still in his system.

The room settled into an uneasy silence as they rested, Dean on one side of the room against the wall, everyone else asleep under a green canopy of Bowman’s wing, blocking out sight of the enormous world around them.

Keeping them safe.
