References (Brothers Lost!)

Since I started getting commissions of my stories, I’ve been slowly compiling a bunch of references to use for these commissions. This new post will cover Sam and Dean both from Brothers Lost:

Before the curse, Dean made Sam a knife for protection. What he rarely mentions in Brothers Apart, at least up until he starts carrying the knife with him in The Schism of Fire and Water, is that he made a knife for himself. So both brothers in Brothers Lost are ready to fight to defend themselves, and they mean business. Don’t let their size deceive you.

Climbing is an essential skill for survival for both of these brothers, and they took advantage of Dean’s budding ability to search out what he needs to find these two. Sam’s was in an obvious area of the room (for them), dropped right in the closet. Dean found his own single prong hook mixed in with miscellaneous trash the fisherman left behind in his room. Without Dean’s knack, they would have overlooked the little silver glint in their hurry to leave when a maid arrived.

Walt made each brother their own bag out of leather. While Sam accepted the bag he was given without issue, Walt ended up making Dean a duffel bag just like he’d had as a kid, before the curse.

Good question!

It actually gives me a chance to point out (maybe for the first time…?) that anyone who gets hit by the curse actually gets a huge strength boost. If we put a curse victim next to a regular human, side-by-side, the victim can haul them around like it’s child’s play. This helps their climbing skills, and helps them blend in with the others their size who are more adjusted to the trials of living at less than four inches in height.

With BL, this AU has both brothers living at the same size for their entire lives. This didn’t even happen in canon, with the way Sam took off to go to college. So here, they’ve lived and worked together for survival since the very beginning. There isn’t much question between them who does what, and all their trips for supplies are planned out and done by instinct. That doesn’t mean they won’t joke around; when Dean’s taking too long climbing up, Sam has a habit of grabbing his older brother by his jacket collar and hauling him up… kicking all the way.

Aww, we all have to thank you for all this crazy your prompt gave birth too! I think Brothers Lost will have the most stories out of any of our AUs, based on the amount of ideas we come up with! When your prompt came in was the first time I got an idea that worked with both brothers tiny, and now it’ll never stop!

Hope you like what we came up with! This first story is only the beginning. (Love me some tiny Dean)

And the winner is…

Brothers Lost!

Starting this Sunday at 9pm est, The Road Not Taken will begin posting, giving everyone their first look at one of our new AUs! We hope you’re all as excited about this as we are!

Saving people. Hunting things.

It was what they were supposed to do. Who they were supposed to be. Instead, that life was stolen from them by a witch and a curse in childhood, stripped away and replaced by one goal:

Survival.

Official counts from the poll:

Tumblr:

  • Chasing Family: 7
  • The Road Not Taken: 6
  • Family Ties: 3
  • Deviantart:

  • Chasing Family: 19
  • The Road Not Taken: 22
  • Family Ties: 9
  • Final count:

  • Chasing Family: 26
  • The Road Not Taken: 28
  • Family Ties: 12
  • The Road Not Taken wins by a mere two votes! We never thought it would come down this close! Thanks everyone for voting, and don’t worry, fans of Family Ties and Chasing Family, they will be back when TRNT is over, along with new stories to muse over! And my bad. I don’t think I realized FT and CF were pretty much identical names.

    Good question!

We’ve been editing the stories one by one, and doing our best to keep them even. That way, we’re prepared whatever story gets chosen, we (hopefully!) have more ready for after.

That said, once the first story of each AU concludes, we’ll go back to another poll to pick the next. We won’t have the entire AU post all at once, and this will give us the time to write more of the AUs ahead of time. More stories get added to the poll each time a story ends, and we go on from there! So it’s up to you guys what goes up. We’re handing over the reigns, if not the AU names.

    Hopefully, stories forever!

The actual length of the first story for each AU:

    Brothers Lost: 27 chapters

    Brothers Found: 16 chapters

    Brothers Adopted: 27 chapters

We’ve only ever planned to list the story names, since there’s the chance that one of the AUs gets ignored in favor of the others, but I can at least give you a hint.

Back when the story excerpts started, I put in a hint as to the name of the story that each excerpt is from, and Brothers Lost was the first AU that was featured. You can figure out what the story name is for that story, and any story written afterwards, by reading the tags. Check the link below to read them from the beginning:

    Story excerpts

Sadly, I didn’t think of story excerpts until after we wrote Brothers Found and Brothers Adopted.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for Brothers Lost, personally, but even we have no idea which story is going to win!
