March 7th excerpt:

He reached over them to experimentally nudge a book back to its upright position, and pushed it back a little farther. “Wow. With this setup no one would even know you guys were in there,” he noted appreciatively.

Dean slapped the hand that was encroaching in on their space. “And it’s gonna stay that way,” he said pointedly. “Now quit it! If you keep pushing the books back Sam will take over the entire place while he sleeps.”

March 6th excerpt:

While Sam was lost in thought, he didn’t notice Rumsfeld shifting behind him. The dog blinked at how far away Dean was, knowing he wouldn’t be able to reach him without jumping up on the desk. Doing that would knock Sam over, and that would hurt the little guy.

So instead, he nosed up against Sam’s back.

And scooped him up with one swift motion.

Actually, the only Jacob in the Brothers Apart stories/AU’s that is from the timeline where he met up with Bowman will be the Jacob that will appear in Brothers Apart itself in a future story. Otherwise, each time you see Jacob Andris appear, it is a different Jacob who took a different path… just like how Sam and Dean are different in each one.

I think Dean might have a much easier time with Jacob if the teenager had already encountered a certain sassy sprite. These two will be butting heads right from the get-go!

“Why do you think I did it?” Dean growled at the human, his voice bouncing off the curved wall of glass he was stuck behind. He pointed up at the ceiling he couldn’t reach. “The next time I stick you in a coffee pot like the morning brew, we’ll let you make the decisions.” He crossed his arms, prepared to do what it took to outlast the human. He’d never give away the others, and he was prepared to deal with the consequences for that decision.

Jacob’s eyebrows shot up yet again. He had to wonder where the little guy was keeping all that sass stored up, because it didn’t look like it’d fit in his tiny frame. He pondered the snarky words while the little hands brushed at those tiny clothes. Every movement was so familiar, but in such a small miniature that Jacob could almost miss it if he wasn’t looking right at the little guy.

“Come on, man, I already said I’d letcha out. No need to make such a big deal out of it when you’re the one who was sneaking around in my room,” he pointed out. “What were you-” he started to ask, but his eyes flitted to the white styrofoam takeout box still resting on the table.

March 5th excerpt:

“That’s right!” Sam blurted out, his voice raised. “Did Dean tell you? He ‘borrowed’ my journal to use for the protection symbols I copied down that first week at Bobby’s, and he got a drop of red paint in the middle of it. He was trying to hide it from me for like a day before I got my book back.”

“Ah, that’s bad luck,” Jacob lamented, a bemused look on his face. He had gotten glimpses of the small journal Sam toted around with him, but never anything substantial. The tiny handwriting was much too small for him to see. It was clear how important the book was to Sam.

“I guess now it’s just got a little extra character to it. And you have ammo for not letting him borrow your shit anymore,” he snickered.

“A Lich of Sense” Ch. 13 Live Blog

skybluesweatband:

Inspired by this post, I’ve decided to start with @nightmares06‘s Brothers Apart. This will probably become a regular thing, I’ll just tag it ‘chel live blogs’ if you want to savior it.

I’m going by the lines I have the biggest reactions to, and I may stop to reflect on my feelings about the fic or characters so far since I’m so late in the story doing this.

Let’s do this! *readies bowl of Captain Crunch*

Man, once Dean figured out who was on his head, Sam might have some explaining to do! Of course, the little Winchester just had to watch that giant that was stomping around the forest to make sure he wasn’t going to find the sprites. Gotta keep those little guys safe!

That would end up with an interesting first encounter, and might even have Sam getting grabbed right off of Dean’s head!

I can say that as of this week, we have officially started to work on Brothers Asunder! *Throws a party* Whether or not Dean will be in it and will find his little brother, I can’t say, but it will definitely be a huge toss up between adorable fluff and angsty angst.

There’s just a few more story excerpts to share from Brothers Lost, then we’ll be switching tracks to Brothers Asunder for more fun!

March 4th excerpt:

Dean hoisted himself out of the pocket, giving Sam an ‘accidental’ bump in the head with his boot and making him almost tumble back into the pocket. It was child’s play to avoid Sam’s lunge, trying to swipe at his legs.

From there Dean just crawled up to the shoulder, smirking at the disgruntled brother he’d left behind. At least for the moment, Sam wouldn’t risk climbing out after him. He was home free and out of reach.

“Second star to the right, and straight on till morning!” Dean declared, jabbing an arm straight out.

March 3rd excerpt:

“Whoa!” Dean was caught off guard by the slope that developed beneath his feet. With the way he was crouched on the hand, it tilted his balance out from under him and sent him rolling down the outstretched fingers. The hand vanished from under him and he hit the bottom of the pocket, landing in a surprised heap.

Dean popped back into sight, a predictably annoyed glare on his face at the unexpected tumble. “You can’t tilt your hand like that with Sam,” he griped.

March 1st excerpt:

The Winchesters will raise questions if anyone sees them and realizes who they are.

There was a click, then a dial tone filled the air. Dean stomped on the END button with his boot, for once having nothing to say to the last statement. Even Sam was quiet where he was sitting on the edge of the laptop.

Jacob pursed his lips, letting Bobby’s words sink in. He hadn’t considered other humans, especially hunters, finding out about Sam and Dean if they went to Bobby’s again.

February 29th excerpt:

A loud click sounded over the line, and a familiar gruff voice spoke up. “Who in hell’s name is this?

Dean winced, but before he could muster up the courage to interrupt the hunter, Bobby went on. “You should not have this…

Sam jumped in, saving his older brother from the scolding. “Bobby! It’s us! We, ah… we’ve got a small problem.”

There was a long pause on the other end, then a sigh. “What kind of problem?
