Ding ding ding, you got it!

#dow is Dean of Wellwood, and now all we’ve got is #don and #bofa before all (current) stories for that particular AU have names!

I’ll add it to the FAQ in a bit. For now, you’ve earned a sneak peek!

As though a sudden breeze picked up, the knights took to the air in a flurry of leafy wings. They were flashes of leafy green that fell into formation with Scar at their head, leading a spiral of knights upwards.

Mere seconds later, the spiral broke apart. What looked like a loss of formation quickly shifted into knights scattering into groups of four or five and darting up towards different trees surrounding the village. Some were lost among the leaves and still others were easily marked circling around with their eyes focused on their adversary:

Dean.

The first knight darted towards Dean from the side, and soon after another from a different group swept into the village. Like the ticking of a clock, knights dashed into closer quarters with the human, following the tactics Scar had signaled to them. Determination filled every one of them as they closed in to swarm around the giant.

Dean brought his arms close to guard against any attacks. The sprites moved different from any opponent he’d ever faced, so before lashing out with his own strike, Dean’s intent green eyes watched how they flowed through the air. The rest of the surroundings dropped away from the fighters and ceased to exist.

After Dean had marked the position of the different groups in his mind to keep track during the flurry, he focused on one that was closer to his right side. The second they were within reach, his arm swept forward with the intent to snatch them out of the air.

The knight, one of the younger members, let out a quiet noise of alarm. He attempted to veer off course, but the adrenaline in his body and the sudden jelly-like feeling in his wings prevented him. His sword dropped to the ground below as fingers the size of his body coiled around and trapped him in a fist. His wings were engulfed along with him, and just like that his fight was over; there was no escape from Dean’s grasp.

“Do not falter,” Scar barked in warning as the other knights watched one of their number disappear into one of Dean’s pockets. If their hearts hadn’t already been pounding, they would have begun.

Dean wasn’t only big. He was fast.

May 7th excerpt:

Karlis narrowed his eyes. He got the feeling any sprite knew well, and knew in his core that he’d been targeted. It didn’t surprise him in the least. Dean was intelligent enough to focus his efforts on the sprites in charge. The rest of the knights knew what to do without someone leading them, but they’d fall much easier, capable warriors or not.

He’d just have to avoid those pockets as long as he could.

The only exposed parts of Dean were his neck, face, and hands. None of them were ideal; the human was fast, and all of those targets were easily defended with a swipe of his hands.

May 6th excerpt:

Jacob left for town early the next morning. He brought back supplies along with a bacon cheeseburger he’d rustled up for Dean.

The hunter quickly discovered he shouldn’t eat near the village.

May 4th excerpt:

Playing along with the tiny kids, Dean moved his hand so it was directly against where his heart was hidden away in his chest. “How’s it sound from here?” He’d be lying if he wasn’t fascinated in the answer.

“Now I can really hear it!” the nestling confirmed. Now that they were closer, the young sprites shifted towards the huge wall that was Dean’s chest, tilting their heads towards it. They were fascinated by the sound, something they had never heard at such a scale before.

The little girl leaned her head against Dean briefly, her eyes widening at how much that amplified the sound of his heart beating away. The whole thing was bigger than the sprites there, possibly all of them together. The girl leaned back to stare straight up at him with a fascinated grin. “I can even feel it! Your heart is so big!”

May 3rd excerpt:

Vel giggled along with the other kids, and then looked at his own hand. After a pause, he curled his fingers towards his palm and stuck out his thumb, which he then displayed for the humans to see. “Okay!” he said proudly.

Jacob chuckled. “Did Sam teach you about thumbs-up?” he asked, noting the way the little nestling held the gesture a little oddly.

Vel nodded. “Yeah! He told me it means ‘good.’ So, good!” He held up his other thumb before letting his hands drop to his lap again.

May 2nd excerpt:

One of the nestlings leaned out further and grinned, and Jacob recognized those fluttering wings for sure. The kids were several feet away from them, and yet the distance probably seemed so much greater in their eyes. They had to tilt their heads back slightly to keep Dean and Jacob’s faces in sight.

“We came ta visit!” Vel announced. He finally stepped out of hiding entirely, folding his hands behind his back while his wings rustled in spite of himself. “We were wondering if, maybe … didja wanna play?”

May 1st excerpt:

Bowman grinned, glad to be home again and glad to hear the others so happy to see the giants with him. He spiraled downwards in lazy circles to greet the sprites waiting with Cerul, but one of them took flight on dainty, fluttering wings and rose through the air to intercept him.

“Birdie!” Bowman greeted, opening his arms to catch Rischa as she reached him. His wings, granted extra energy by the coffee, had no trouble compensating for her extra weight as he hovered there. Rischa merely sniffled and hid her face against his chest, hugging him tight. He drifted back down towards the balcony even as Jacob approached with a grin.
