June 19th excerpt:

Placing his hand carefully against the table, Dean beckoned to Sam. “Gimme some of that sandwich,” he commanded.

Sam stuck his lip out but didn’t argue. “Kay,” he said, pinching off a corner.

Dean took it, flattening the bread between two fingers. “How ‘bout you get some rest and eat up?” he offered the kid, motioning with his head to the books he might be able to sit on. “Take it easy while we figure this out.”

May 24th excerpt:

Dean ignored the little squirms in his hand, much like he’d do if he was checking Sam for any broken bones just after a fall. “See?” he said softly to the kid as he worked his way over each rib and brushed against the skinny bare arms. “Nothin’ to it.” He searched those tiny eyes for any signs of pain and found none.

Sam slapped on some grape jelly to his sandwich and but both slices of bread together, eagerly biting down. “Isf hee okayff?” he asked, mouth full.

May 20th excerpt:

Dean rubbed his face. “Okay. We can just…” He looked at the kid again. The little guy was crying while they argued. “Sam, did you hurt him?” Dean held out his hands expectantly. “Lemme see ‘im.”

That got Oscar’s attention. He looked up quickly only to duck his head again, too intimidated by the teenage human. He looked so stern. Ready to scold Oscar for sneaking around in their room to steal food.

May 15th excerpt:

With his offered food carefully held in his palm, John entered his room once again. His steps were slow and smooth as he continued to heed Dean’s request. He resolutely kept to that pace when he transferred the fragment of paper plate to a relatively flat part of the handkerchief near Dean.

“Anything else you need, don’t hesitate to ask,” said John once the food was in place, backing away from the desk to finally remove his coat. In all the excitement, he hadn’t taken the time until now.

April 28th excerpt:

“How was research?” Stan wondered, just as excited to hear about Sam’s day in as he was to partake in the spoils of his day out with Dean. Such interesting and enticing smells wafted from the mountainous paper bag, not to mention the pie. The last thing he would ever complain about was the way Sam and Dean fed him.

April 1st excerpt:

Jacob rolled his shoulders and stood at the edge of the shadow under the dresser. The duffel bag hadn’t even been closed. If this wasn’t his perfect opportunity for an easy raid, he’d never get one.

Just a quick look. Then I’ll go.

March 21st excerpt:

The human’s foot tapped against the floor absently, and high above him the underside of the table echoed with the scratching of a pencil. Oscar swallowed dryly and steeled his nerves. The human was busy. He couldn’t see him and he wouldn’t hear him walking on the carpet fibers. This wasn’t even the first time he’d snuck under the table like this.

The vibration in the floor from the tapping foot was a drumbeat for his nerves. Oscar snatched up a discarded piece of granola, easily half the size of his head. Some days, that was enough for his one meal of the day.

March 17th excerpt:

Even when he first shrank down, he hadn’t encountered a feeling like this. It fluttered in his chest like a rabbit’s heartbeat and he tried to run faster. He even abandoned the food tucked under his arm, all to gain more distance, more speed.

February 4th excerpt:

Once Stan got a feel for the pitch and sway of Sam’s gait, he reached down and plucked a small, slightly sticky lump that he recognized the smell of more than anything. His stomach gave an excited grumble at the reminder of the crumb of soft granola he’d been offered earlier and couldn’t finish. Mouth watering, Stan took a big munch out of the granola lump. Never in his life had there ever been food readily on hand, and the entire idea excited Stan deeply.
