TTOL: The Trials of Logan

A+ guess on the name! You got it on the first try.

No one needs trials like this more than our favorite little punching bag, Logan Guthrie, antagonist of Bowman of Wellwood. An all-around unpleasant man.

Bobby looked away from Dean and Logan, turning a blind eye to whatever they did. “Want some help getting that blood out?” he offered Sam, sizing up the splotch and the dark spot around it from Rumsfeld’s saliva.

Sam glanced at it. “Sure. I’m kind of running low on jackets, anyway. We don’t exactly have a supply of them…”

“I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve,” Bobby assured the kid as he held out his hand. Once Sam was with him, they left the kitchen with Rumsfeld close behind, leaving the other pair to their own devices.

Dean stared at the jar in his hand with an assessing gaze, looking over the man inside. From their last encounter, time had not been kind on Logan. His clothing was showing wear and his hair was a mess. A trip to the barber wouldn’t be out of the question, either.

By contrast, even directly after a hunt, Dean’s hair was spiked and his jacket in pristine condition. His jeans were ripped by his thigh, and his boots had some dirt caked to the bottom. Despite a few frays, it was a far cry from Logan’s tattered appearance.

“I think we can do better than that,” Dean said dryly, flipping the jar upside down.

October 1st excerpt:

Stalking over to Dean’s boot, Sam pounded his fist on the thick leather and called up “Dean! Down here!”

In seconds, Dean was kneeling down again, the sight of him dropping down so fast and from so close nearly making Sam’s head spin. He jabbed a finger at the smudged mark. “Bowman found something that looks right, can you see it?”

Dean squinted, and after a long moment put a hand down on the ground near them, glancing around himself to see if anyone else was nearby, then going flat on his stomach. He peered closely at the ground before shaking his head. “Maybe… a smudge or something.”

This time, the door didn’t come into being in its regular spot.

The room shifted, barely noticed by the many different patrons of the ever-growing Lounge. And now, it was literally growing.

When the shift finished, there was another door, this one placed further from the bar than the others, and off a sheer cliff that the nearby Dean shied away from on his way for a refill.

The door opened, and in strolled the next patron.

Dean ground to a halt, his eyes going wide.

Not for over a decade had he seen a chair his size.

Sam was in his hand, much like the many other Sams of the bar. The main difference between this Sam and the others… he was human sized.

And Dean was a giant.

“You have got to be shitting me!” came one of the voices from the tiny bar placed at around Dean’s chest height.

One of the multiple Dean’s at the bar (the original, the one that came first to the room to meet his teenage self), was standing a few feet back from the edge, his hands on his hips and a supremely annoyed look on his face.

The new entrants to the bar snapped their heads to the side in time when another voice, a much fainter voice cut through the air. The source was a barely visible speck on one of the tables.

“See how you like it, asshat!”

Dean tentatively came forward, holding his hand level with the floor so Sam could step down. He could barely believe his eyes. There was a nearly microscopic version of himself standing there, and Sam spotted a small version of himself nearby.

The regular Dean scowled. “Watch it, shortstop!” he called threateningly to the smallest Dean there. “Or it’ll be time for a pool rematch!”

Over by the arcade, the teenager’s eyes were wide, holding Sam close. “Maybe we should sit this one out,” he said faintly, unable to tear his eyes away from a giant older counterpart. The regular sized one was a handful enough.

Sam patted his thumb. “But we gotta check them out!” he insisted. “I’m normal sized over there!”

And of course there was no way for Dean to say no to his little brother when he got that yearning in his eyes. He swallowed nervously before wandering away from their safe corner, keeping a distance from the edge.

The bartender waved the new pair on. “Drinks on the house boys! We’ve got all sizes here!”

August 16th excerpt:

“Dean, wait! ” Jacob cried, lifting one hand as if he might halt the towering human himself. His eyes were wide and his heart pounded, residual from the sharp reaction he’d gotten. Dean’s walls had slammed down like a ton of bricks, quickly enough to almost cause whiplash.

Jacob hadn’t given him the time he needed to cool off. He suddenly doubted any amount of time was enough.

“Please, you gotta listen to me,” he yelled, trying to ensure Dean could hear his tiny voice from his full height. Normally, Jacob would want to back off, but this was too important.

April 22nd excerpt:

“Didn’t we go over that I’m not that big for a human?” Dean asked, poking Bowman in the side. “I don’t cause earthquakes if I fall over!”

“Hey, watch it, giant!” Bowman groused, rustling his wings irritably. “You are plenty big for a human! You’re over six feet tall!”

“And don’t you forget it, small fry,” Dean shot right back, grabbing a few more chips in his hand. “It feels good to be the tallest.”

March 23rd excerpt:

“Dean,” Sam interrupted gently. The changing channels froze. “Jacob picked Star Wars.

Dean glanced over at them in surprise, a flush rising to his face in embarrassment. “He did?” His eyes flicked back to the television, switching back to the movie. “Sorry about that,” he mumbled, clearly upset.

Jacob chuckled sheepishly, once again reminded that just communicating with Dean had become an obstacle. His tiny lungs would need to work hard to produce enough sound for the huge hunter to actually register.
