January 16th excerpt:

“Leave him alone!” Sam cried out, his mind clearing instantly at the sight of the imminent threat. He tossed himself at the huge hand and slashed down with his knife. All he knew was Dean needed help, and it didn’t matter how big his enemy was.

His aim true, the silver knife bit into the thick skin.

January 15th excerpt:

“If you didn’t go causing earthquakes with your big stomping feet, I wouldn’t have to be a ninja,” Dean griped up at Jacob, letting years and years worth of resentment shine through in his tone. His voice bounced back at him from the glass, only fueling his frustration. “You left the pie out, that made it fair game.”

January 14th excerpt:

At least he could see his duffel and his bloodied dagger sitting on the edge of the table. Those would be recoverable, if there was a way out of this no-win situation he’d found himself in. Kirk managed it, Dean reminded himself, fear summoning up memories of old science fiction, of all things.

Nothing’s impossible.

January 13th excerpt:

Jacob brushed his fingertip over the little head of hair with a smirk. The tiny hairs, styled up in a casual spike befitting the leather jacket and jeans, were bedraggled after his touch, and he grinned apologetically. Since he only really got glares in return for his smiles, he had to hold back another snicker as the man begrudgingly tried to straighten the hair back to its spiked style.

January 12th excerpt:

Dean! ” Sam hissed from his station next to the hook. “He’s back!”

Dean’s blood chilled as he turned around. The sound of immense feet scuffing against the ground outside sent daggers of fear up his back. Shoes big enough to crush Dean and Sam from existence at the same time without their owner even noticing crunched against gravel and crumbling asphalt.

Oscar scrambled for a grip on the hood, his pale knuckles turning white he held on so hard. “B-but s-school is full of humans!” he stuttered out, his voice barely more than a frightened squeak. He couldn’t fathom how Sam tolerated being around that many bigger folk all gathered in one space.

I don’t think Oscar agrees with Sam about this being a good idea…

Sneak Peek!

In celebration of reaching ten stories for Brothers Apart, this story is a special edition. It brings in a new set of characters that I’m very excited for everyone to welcome into the BA universe!

A Lich of Sense arrives officially on December 11th.

Over the last hour, Dean’s movements had become more sluggish, his snark slowing down compared to normal. Sam could feel a pang of fear whenever he caught sight of Dean’s arm. His brother had tied a tourniquet to slow the bleeding while they were walking, but the red stain had continued to spread.

Dean was weakening, and there was nothing he could do.

“Dean, how–” Sam’s query was cut short when the massive hunter suddenly dropped down, going to a sit with his legs crossed. He leaned back against a tree, closing his eyes to the silence of the forest.

It took Sam a few moments to recover, shoulders slightly shaking from the terror of the ground dropping out from under him. It gave the effect of being trapped in free-fall, with no seatbelt to secure him in place. Dean had never done anything like that without warning, or making sure Sam was secure.

“Dean, you alright?” Sam asked worriedly once he caught his breath again. The huge hunter was paler than normal, his lips a brighter pink against the whitened skin.

A green eye cracked open, searching out Sam. “Yeah, Sammy. I’ll be okay. Just… gotta rest for a bit…”

Worry spiked in Sam even more. It wasn’t like Dean to just rest like this… not on a case… and with his injury beyond Sam’s ability to handle, Sam couldn’t risk Dean dropping off into a deep sleep. Most of the time, Dean was an extraordinarily light sleeper, waking at the smallest noises around him (like Sam, arguing with his father by Dean’s laptop that first time they’d met up again), but other times nothing could budge him, come hell or high water.

Standing precariously on his perch, Sam shoved roughly against Dean’s cheek. It was clammy to the touch, ratcheting Sam’s worry up another notch. “C’mon, Godzilla. No falling asleep. You have townspeople to terrify.”

This elicited a grumble from the hunter, but nothing more. Thankful that Dean was still responsive, Sam started to climb down the long sleeve to where Dean’s hands were folded on his lap.

He had an idea.

( Part 3 of 6 )

Heavy thuds were approaching the room. The table his cage was on started to quiver with the power, a power that humans took for granted. The instinct to run rose up in Walt, but there was nowhere to go.

No place to hide.

He stiffened in place as a dark shadow fell over the door. He didn’t twitch so much as a muscle as the shadow began to bend down to open the door. Normally, that instinct would help hide him in plain sight if he had no other choice. Here, it would do him no good.

Instead of the rattling of a key, a steady series of clicks could be heard coming from the doorknob. Brow furrowing, Walt pulled himself to his feet. Never, in all his 19 years of life had he heard the like.

He wrapped a hand around one of the steel mesh bars behind him. He needed support to stay on his feet after days of not moving aside from using the bathroom (a small pile of woodchips he’d fashioned himself out of the scattered bits on the floor), or eating the scant food given to him.

Something clicked in the door.

It swung open, the towering mass of wood handled by the human like it was child’s play. Walt or his people would never hope to be able to budge such a massive construct like that.

The man that came into the room was big.

Tall, dark haired, yet with piercing blue eyes just like Walt, the human stared around the room. He let the door swing closed behind him. He steadily searched through the room from where he was standing, not moving a muscle as he took it all in.

His eyes found the cage. They locked onto Walt.

“Ah, hell,” Bobby Singer cursed.

( Part 2 of 6 )

Walt’s back was to the steel mesh of the cage. The wall lay beyond, towering over his head. If he was to stare straight up at where it intersected the ceiling, he would get vertigo.

Humans were that big.

He was alone at the moment. The humans that had captured him were out celebrating. They anticipated he would pull in a large sum of cash in the black markets. There was no way out for him, after all. No escape.

No hope.

Only the knowledge that his small wife would mourn him.

No one else.

She was so fragile. Barely a wisp of a girl that had taken in his sorry ass. They were even hoping to have their first child soon. Continue on with the next generation of the Watch family.

Now it seemed his family line would end with him. The last surviving son of a dead line. The youngest brother was now the last.

He prayed that Mallory would move on without him. Find someone new to share her love with. She deserved all that and more. If he wasn’t around to give it to her, there would be someone else out there that would. There had to be.

That thought was all he had to hold on to.

He stared straight ahead, unmoving. For minutes at a time he didn’t even blink. Time passed at a crawl, but it did pass. The light outside started to shift to evening and he knew his time would soon come.

It wasn’t long after the warm hue of sunset began to spill into the room that he was made aware of a new sound infringing on his silence.

Footsteps.
