April 6th excerpt:

“Dad,” Bowman spoke up before his father could fly far. Gunner glanced at him, schooling his concerned expression into a neutral one. “Be careful, wouldja? This thing seems pretty dangerous.”

Gunner smirked faintly and nodded. “You got it, kid,” he answered before darting away. Bowman rolled his eyes before wandering closer to Jacob. In short order, he’d landed right on the human’s head.

“Comfy?” Jacob asked, amused. A wing, spread wide, slapped down on the top of his head.

Portability is definitely not why I write on this scale.

First things first, the main reason you see Sam standing at 4 inches tall is because the majority of my stories are either Brothers Apart, or AUs based on Brothers Apart. The scale is not going to change between them.

Second, I do have other stories that work with different scales. Reversal of Fate and An Ounce Of Courage both use the scale where Sam/Dean stand at 3 inches tall. This scale was discarded for BA because if he’s in it for the long haul, he’s going to need to do things for himself. He is not dependent on Dean in any way as some people seem to assume. Sam survived most of his life without his family around and could easily survive without them. He stays with Dean for reasons all his own.

–Sidenote here: In the horror story, Jacob is reduced down to barely an inch and a half tall and we’ll see exactly why that’s not a good thing. It’s a horror story for a reason.

I also won’t work with the Swift scale (Found in Gulliver’s Travels and The Borrowers). Since I write for enjoyment and I don’t enjoy writing my characters at 6 inches tall, you won’t find that here.

Lastly, the scales I and @neonthewrite use are not 4 inches = 6 feet.

Sam stands 4 inches tall, but his actual height is 6′4″. This gives us a ratio of about 1/19. If we put him and Bowman next to each other, they’re both 4 inches tall. Same scale, right?

Wrong! Bowman is actually the equivalent of 6′2″ in height. So he’s tall, but not quite at Sam’s height. He’s going to be disgruntled if they ever stand at the same scale and he comes to discover this human he can look straight in the eye is actually taller than him. Bowman’s ratio is about 1/18.5.

Aww, that would be so cute ^-^. They could have swimming lessons for Sam and Oscar since the tub is the size of a pond. Dean would have to watch those two closely, they are very smol kiddos.

Oscar would probably only be convinced to try if they gave him something to float on like that rubber duck. Poor little guy would fit down the drain, and since he’s generally so nervous, they’d need to sweeten the deal. And then he might just stay on his ducky the whole time. XD

April 2nd excerpt:

“I might not swat them if they catch me off guard, but I can pretty much guarantee they’d get grabbed.”

Jacob chuckled. “Hopefully it won’t come to that, but I think even Bowman will forgive you for it, no matter what he says.”

Bowman scoffed. “Humans are impossible,” he said, glancing aside at Sam. His adopted brother could easily be included in his grousing, and it went without saying.

March 31st excerpt:

Jacob frowned faintly. He hadn’t expected the agent to make it this far into the woods so quickly, and normally he’d be sheepish about getting caught like this. But at the moment, he couldn’t think about that.

He’d seen just a hint of green in the man’s hands before he closed them up.

Jacob closed the distance between them, unable to stop himself from bristling a little. But, as he got closer, he forced his broad shoulders to relax a little and held up his hands briefly to show he carried no threats with him. He was cautious, but not aggressive.

Yet.

“What’s in your hands?” he asked, not bothering to conceal the ice in his tone.

March 30th excerpt:

Rischa’s eyes were wide in the dark.

She’d only noticed a shadow descending on her before something large and fast closed around her, trapping her body and her surprised, fluttering wings in a small space. The shape of the light that leaked in showed the silhouettes of fingers clamped tightly around her.

“Oh,” she breathed, her heart beating faster. The human’s feelings crashed around her in a startling clarity, and she was immediately certain that it wasn’t Jacob.

A giant she didn’t know had snatched her up, and no one even knew she was out there.

“Oh no.

March 26th excerpt:

Jacob watched Sam move along for a few seconds. He was tempted to offer to help, and very nearly did. But the hilt of Sam’s sword glinted in the light, reminding Jacob of how capable the little guy was on his own. Jacob offering to help could just come across the wrong way, though he had never had to consider that before.

Once Sam and Bowman were a little more out of range, Jacob grabbed his backpack and stood to his full height. The pair of them dwindled away below him, and he stared for a second. Bowman kept looking over his shoulder to peer up at him, flicking his wings almost in annoyance.

How dare I be tall.

March 25th excerpt:

Bowman looked over at Sam and pointed at the flesh-colored material stuck to Jacob’s hand. “What is that thing he’s got? I’ve never seen bandaging like that.”

“It’s a band-aid,” Sam explained patiently. He was used to Bowman’s curious questions. The sprite wanted to know everything he could, and the humans were a tempting store of knowledge. “It seals to his skin, see? That way, the cut won’t get infected. Remember we talked about human medicine? Humans don’t have healers like the sprites do. We gotta make do with what we can.”

After a split second of hesitation, Bowman opened up his wings and flapped them once to get into the air. Jacob froze as the little guy glided right over to his hand, hovering near it for a closer look at the band-aid. He even reached out to brush across the strange, almost alien material.

March 24th excerpt:

“IPod?” Sam repeated in confusion, latching onto the alien word. “Is it like a cassette player? Or some kind of stereo? Can you carry it with you?” He paused for a second, confusion shining in his eyes.

“Ah,” Jacob said simply, trying to catch up with Sam’s frame of reference. Hearing him ask about a cassette player while standing there at all of four inches tall was a little jarring, but it gave Jacob a slightly better idea. “Yeah, it’s a portable music player,” he explained. “I have something kinda like it.”

March 23rd excerpt:

“Jacob, you can’t just keep us under the bucket,” Sam called out, his voice loud enough to escape the bucket. “You’re going to have to let us out eventually.”

Jacob sat back and ran a hand through his hair absently. He stared down at the bucket and contemplated Sam’s words. “Yeah, I … holy shit,” he answered distractedly, unsure of what he could even say to them. He’d just trapped them without even thinking about it.
