The human’s foot tapped against the floor absently, and high above him the underside of the table echoed with the scratching of a pencil. Oscar swallowed dryly and steeled his nerves. The human was busy. He couldn’t see him and he wouldn’t hear him walking on the carpet fibers. This wasn’t even the first time he’d snuck under the table like this.
The vibration in the floor from the tapping foot was a drumbeat for his nerves. Oscar snatched up a discarded piece of granola, easily half the size of his head. Some days, that was enough for his one meal of the day.
We’re still working on this story a bit, but you can be sure that there will be plenty on the way!
“I kinda like games,” Oscar recalled shyly. “I used ta play a game with a button, where I’d, um,” he almost faltered as sheepishness settled in. Humans had plenty of options for much more interesting things. “I’d try to make it roll for as far as I could get it and then have to catch it before it fell over…” He shrugged at the end of his explanation and fidgeted on the hand.
More questions for poor Oscar. I’m gonna go ahead and do all three, since they haven’t already been asked for him. ^^
15. Who do they hate the most?
In most AUs, Oscar is actually too isolated from people to hate someone. In the sad AU, however, he hates Thomas, the first human that caught him and launched him into all the trials that followed.
18. Is there a certain flavor that disgusts them?
He doesn’t get enough food in general, so he decided early on that he liked food, no matter what it was. If it’s edible and fills up his tiny little tummy, he likes it. That said, he probably wouldn’t like flavors like sauerkraut. He’d still eat it if it was all he had, but the flavor would earn a few grimaces.
20. Do they consider themselves unloveable?
He hasn’t decided this about himself, but sometimes he does wonder. He’s lived so much of his life by himself. He did once or twice worry that his mother left because she didn’t want to come back to him, but he knows that isn’t true. That said, the boy is extremely touch starved and if he was given a hug (by someone who saw him as an equal, at least), he would all but melt into that contact.
That’s a lot of tall people to deal with all at once, and Oscar isn’t even very tall for a borrower/little/etc. He’d take one look at them and curl up as small as he can make himself. With three sets of eyes on him like that, from so high up, his poor little heart would be pounding.
Of course, it wouldn’t matter how stern the seasoned hunters might try to be about the potential danger. Once Oscar starts crying (and he would probably cry over this), Jacob will be his defender. Do not mess with him. Making such a little guy cry is illegal.
Oh my gosh. The two sweetest characters, as kiddos? It would be such a cute meeting. After Jacob calmed down enough to stop scaring the little guy, of course.
Jacob would probably pick Oscar up before anything else, which would definitely scare the bejeezus out of him. Oscar would have to curl up into a ball, and he would cry almost immediately, which would jar Jacob out of everything else. He’s a sweet kid and couldn’t bear to see a potential little friend crying, so Oscar would find himself in a hug with a kid younger than him trying to console him.
Once Jacob offers to share his snacks with Oscar, he’ll win him over. Food is the quickest way to Oscar’s heart.
Not just yet! There are a couple of AUs that last left off with Oscar on his way to meet Bobby (and Rumsfeld, but Sam conveniently forgot to warn Oscar about the doggo before convincing him to go).

Food and Monsters, an AU created by @neonthewrite and the origin of Oscar. I write a new installment of this series every year around contest time, so you can actually expect to see Oscar meet Bobby at last sometime in the next couple months!
From Burgers and Pixie Dust, the third in the Food and Monsters series:
“Oz, why didn’t you tell us you were by yourself?” Dean asked. His voice was softer than Oscar was used to. The familiar gruff cadence was so quiet it almost didn’t rumble at all. Oscar glanced up sheepishly and found Dean watching him with concern.
He shrugged helplessly. “I dunno,” he said. “It didn’t seem important, I guess…”
“You shouldn’t have to be alone,” Sam said, his own expression full of concern. Their solemn looks flustered Oscar more and more by the second.
“B-but I do,” he said, shrugging again. “What else am I s’posed to do?”
Sam and Dean shared a long look and Oscar wrung his hands. He never had picked up the knack for reading either of them. They were enigmatic, no matter how much trust he’d placed in them, and when they wanted to hide what they were thinking, they could.
“If you want,” Sam began, turning back to Oscar with a hopeful gleam in his eyes, “we could get you to a place where you don’t have to be by yourself. Somewhere we could visit you more often and everything, and you’d even have more access to food.”
“Someplace safe, Oz. You deserve it after all that time,” Dean added. One hand approached and nudged gently at his shoulder. Just a gentle touch, and the hand retreated.
Oscar glanced around, wondering if they were playing a joke of some kind. Leaving the only place he’d ever known to live somewhere else? He’d never had a thought like that. It had never been a possibility before. “Um. Where is it? Is it far?”
I would say an AU where Sam finds him first, but @neonthewrite did one like that, and Sam definitely grabbed first, checked later.
That poor smol might be fated to always be nabbed by the bros.
(Neon – It’s kind of become a running gag that Oscar gets grabbed by Dean in every story from Food and Monsters, as well. I always work it in that somehow, Dean will yoink the little guy.)
