This year I didn’t get my energy in a row in time to do another Halloween costume contest for my shy little borrower Oscar. However! In late November there comes a time when lots of humans are inexplicably more preoccupied with food (and lots of it). Oscar doesn’t know where this “Thanksgiving” holiday comes from, but he can definitely attest that a Food Day is a Good Day.
What I’d like to see from entries is your take on Thanksgiving for the little guy. It can be art or writing, as long as it includes some indication that Thanksgiving is involved. This contest isn’t going to run for very long and is meant to be more relaxed, so submissions need not be super fancy. Don’t do an extravagant painting or a novella for it (unless you want to, I guess!).
The deadline is December 8 at 11pm Central Standard Time.
Rules
Must include Oscar having some Thanksgiving fun. What kinds of food would he be most drawn to? That’s up to you to imagine.
Other characters are allowed, but the submission won’t be judged based on any other characters
Keep it clean and respectful; Thanksgiving does not mean the same thing to everyone, and it carries its own issues. That said, for many it is about family gatherings and an excuse to eat good food, and that’s the sort of feeling I’d like this contest to take inspiration from. Oscar is all about the chance for a feast!
Prizes
Since it’s a short contest and it’s pretty chill, for now I have only a few prizes up for grabs. If I get a lot of entries, I can reconsider that and I’ll announce it as soon as I know.
I’m guessing most people who follow me know who Oscar is from at least one story, but just in case, here’s a link to a few example pictures. Let me know if you need links to other resources about him; there are lots of stories out there to choose from.
Contact
In order to enter, you can post your entry on Tumblr or DeviantArt (if you don’t have an account on either, Archive of Our Own is also acceptable for writing). Then either @ me on tumblr or send me a note on DeviantArt (I am PL1 there). I’ll make a post with entries (or possibly add them to this one). If you made an entry and don’t see yours added to the list after a reasonable amount of time, let me know! There’s a chance I might miss it.

With Bowman of Wellwood finally being published, It’s a good time to give a synopsis of the story for anyone who might not know what it actually is (I doubt I have any followers haven’t seen at least a glimpse or a mention of Bowman, but I could be mistaken).
Bowman Leafwing is always flying himself right into trouble. In an idyllic forest haven, a young wood sprite must make his own adventures, and Bowman does so by sneaking out at night to fly in the dark. After a race with his friends is interrupted by an owl, Bowman makes a discovery that the village of Wellwood hasn’t seen in generations.
Giant beings right out of the legends have moved into the forest, and though Bowman was once proud of his lofty four inch height, these newcomers tower over even him. Curiosity and miscommunication land Bowman in trouble, and he is left wondering: are these “humans” enemies, or are they allies?
Bowman Leafwing is a four-inch-tall wood sprite, a species I have designed based on several different forest fairy (and general fae) legends. Wellwood is the name of the forest he calls home, with a village at its center housing a whole community of sprites. They are a pacifist group, though they are willing to defend themselves from predators.
Enter Jacob Andris, a human camper who stands quite tall among his peers at six feet (and he’s not even fully grown yet). When Jacob discovers Bowman snooping around his campsite, he’s too fascinated. Somehow, he will have to work past a very rude (and grabby) first impression to earn back Bowman’s trust, in time for a much bigger threat than a fascinated camper to come to the forest.
I was thinking about doing them for people that want high quality
drawings made on physical paper, not digital. I have all the respect in
the world for digital artists and their craft! I simply lack the
technology and skill. I prefer to do my art on paper by hand. I will
upload a few examples of my professional work that I had made in the
past, and I think I can do competitive prices compared to other
commissionaires. I can draw people, pets and wildlife of any kind,
but, sorry, I will not draw anything NSFW or copyrighted material.
Message me for details or questions 🙂 More information and examples below the cut.
Alright, so… I need about 150 more bucks to pay rent for this month. I know I have commissions I need to finish (and I’ve been working on them as fast as I can, promise), but I’m in a pinch here, soooo.
Hey, guys! As we’re coming up on the book being ready to print, I wanted to offer one last chance for anybody who missed the Indiegogo project to order themselves a copy of the book, since I’ve been getting emails on and off since the end of the campaign asking if that was still a possibility.
I’ll be accepting additional orders up until this Friday, December 1st at 6pm EST. After that point, I’ll (hopefully) be placing the order for the books and will be unable to accommodate any extras.
Here’s how you can order your copy:
Send an email to spnshortstories@gmail.com with the subject line “Book order”.
In your email, include your shipping address (including your name) and which book you’d like to order (hardcover or softcover). Prices will be the same as they were for the Indiegogo campaign (all prices in USD):
softcover books: $12
hardcover books: $20
domestic shipping (US and Canada): $15
international shipping (everywhere else): $25
If you’d like to be listed as a backer in the book, then mention that and let me know how you’d like to be listed (your name, a URL, etc.).
Once you’ve sent your email, I’ll set you up to pay through PayPal and add your order to the list.
Because the artist bonuses have already been ordered based on the number of them that were bought during the campaign, they will unfortunately be unavailable for these extra orders.
One of our own is really struggling right now and
can really use our help. She’s in danger of losing her condo and she’s
desperately reaching out to us for help to #AlwaysKeepFighting!!!
Please check out her Go Fund Me page “Jen’s Home”
and if you can spare a little for her, please, PLEASE do! She’s been in
the fandom since season one, many of you might even know her
Livejournal, and she’s been struggling with depression for years. Her
home is her sanctuary, and losing it will devastate her. Now is a
perfect time for a Random Act of Kindness to one of our own to help her
make it!!
Thank you so much for your consideration!!
OOC: If anyone can help out Jen, she’s a wonderful writer and one of my biggest inspirations. She and a few others are the reason I ever started watching Supernatural. Without her stories I never would have started Brothers Apart. If you’re familiar with Deanzilla, Measure of a Man and a few other wonderful size!fics, their author is in danger of losing her home. If you can’t donate, a reblog to spread the world may help make the difference!
