A Different Perspective

Dean’s pov

“What the…”

Dean’s eyes blinked open as his surroundings inched towards clarity. His whole body protested moving from his comfortable position, but his curiosity proved to be more important. His blurry view was almost clear when, out of nowhere, two hands slapped over his adjusting eyes. This efficiently kept Dean from seeing past the secure grip.

The hunter part of Dean immediately retaliated against being help captive. In turn, he thrashed in an attempt to free himself from the figure pinning him down.

Oh hell no Dean thought as he curled his arm back in preparation for punch.

Before he could slam his fist into the thing holding him down, he noticed a familiar voice coming from the same figure.

“Dean, wait!” it said.

The voice stopped the hunter in his tracks. It was the voice of his little brother… Only Sam was normally shorter than Dean. Like, a lot shorter. As a child, Sam was hit by a witches curse that shrunk him to a whopping four inches tall. He survived on his own for several years until, he was lucky enough to cross paths with his older, and much bigger, brother. The two brothers now travel together despite the very noticeable size difference.

“Sam!? What the hell is going on?“

Dean stopped fighting the second he recognized his opponent’s voice. He also realized the lack of a height difference between him and his little brother. At once a smile was on his face. The joy dean felt was over whelming at that fact that dean could see his brother as he was meant to. The joy, however, was cut short when Sam didn’t uncover his older brother’s eyes.

Damn the kid is strong!

"Sammy, lemme go. It’s just me.” Dean said softly.

He wrapped his fingers around Sam’s wrists to gently coax the hands off. The very fact that Dean could complete this gesture shocked Dean to the core. It was just so foreign for these brothers to have that kind of contact. Dean was thrilled he could even hold Sam’s wrists without the fear of breaking them. It was about damn time Dean gave his little brother a proper hug for the first time in several years. Only his little brother wasn’t letting go.

Does he think it’s not me? Dean pondered. It was totally possible in their line of work.

Sam proved Dean’s guess wrong when he responded, “I know Dean, I know. Just… Uh… don’t freak out."

Before Dean could question why Sam was so hesitant Sam removed his hands. Within that second Sam was being crushed via bear hug.

The brothers clinged to each other. A sense of delight filled the air. They had each other – everything else didn’t matter. The world vanished around them as they hugged like it would be their last.

In fact Dean was so overjoyed he didn’t bother to look around him.

He didn’t bother to note that his surroundings now towered over him.

He didn’t bother to realize that he shrunk down to 3.6 inches tall…

Jacob + Burrow Littles = Disaster

Separating to explore Bobby’s junkyard while Dean was doing maintenance on the Impala was a mistake Sam didn’t realize he had made.

Especially with a literal giant trailing after him like a lost puppy.

“Dude, you don’t have to follow me, okay?” Sam addressed Jacob’s looming figure, suppressing a twitch at the sheer size of the kid. “Seriously you can go do your own thing, it’s pretty safe around here.”

“The hunter-”

“Bobby.” Sam stressed.

“Er, Bobby… he said I had to be near you or Dean at all times.” Jacob smiled sheepishly. “Said he didn’t need me stomping around and accidentally step on something important.”

“Riiiight.” Sam sighed, shaking his head. “You’re fine then, I guess.”

Jacob merely nodded.

Sam attempted to ignore Jacob to the best of his ability, but his senses were running rampant with the feeling of being watched by something large and dangerous. As he wandered through the junkyard, Sam would sneak glances at Jacob to reassure himself of…something.

A low growl pulled Sam into alertness, as he realized he had entered a grassy field with trees beyond the expanse. A faint memory played in his mind of himself and Dean playing in this field and climbing the trees when they were kids.

He glanced around briefly, locating the source of the growl when it sounded again. Rumsfield was standing defensively a few yards away, his teeth bared in a snarl. Sam noted the aggression and began to back away, shocked when Rumsfield advanced at the same time.

Suddenly Rumsfield was hidden between two hands the size of King-sized beds, Sam jumping at the ridiculously quick movement.

He watched in dumbstruck fear and shock as the hands slid across the ground, corralling Rumsfield away from Sam. The soil and grasses were easily displaced by the movement, which made a small section of the ground collapse.

Ice flooded Sam’s veins as he watched tiny things begin crawling out of the collapsed dirt. At first glance they looked like small rodents, then Sam noticed they were standing…on two feet.

Tiny people.

He held up a hand to Jacob, a warning for the kid to keep still, while Sam advanced slowly towards the hill, his mind alight with both concern and curiosity. Careful of his steps Sam bent down, hit body folding down slowly to not startle the tiny beings.

Sam couldn’t help feeling horrible when the small people began running away from him. They think I was the one to destroy their home, he realized.

Jacob was frozen, taking Sam’s command to heart. Rumsfield struggled lightly between his hands but otherwise didn’t make trouble. He was terrified the area of the small collapse of dirt had meant something special to Sam. As he waited in tense silence, he watched Sam slowly approach the area and crouch down.

Something about the whole thing made Jacob’s chest constrict as he stared down at a man that would normally tower a few inches over him. Not to mention the angle and the way the hunter was crouched made him seem even smaller to Jacob.

Sam watched quietly as two bright red-heads separated from the rest of the smaller people, staring up at Sam directly.

“You destroyed our home. Why?” Sam was taken aback by the sheer authority in the quiet, fearful voice of the male of the pair. “Answer me boy.”

Sam blinked a few times before finding his voice. “We didn’t mean too, my friend accidentally shifted a bunch of dirt around which caused the cave-in… is everyone accounted for? I can help clear out your home as an apology…”

“Everyone is accounted for, we don’t need a human’s help.” The red-head girl glared at Sam, with a confidence that shocked him to the core. “Where is your friend? Tell him to leave this area alone, we will have to leave now that our home is destroyed and we don’t need any humans making it difficult.”

Sam nodded mutely, guilt heavy in his stomach as he realized the damage accidentally wrought. He stood up slowly before turning to look up at Jacob.

An odd feeling washed over the hunter as he realized he was playing middle man between a giant and people barely 2 to 3 inches tall.

“Jacob.” Sam waved to catch the kid’s attention. He twitched at Jacob crouched down onto his elbows and knees.

“What’s going on? I-I didn’t break something important did I?” Jacob’s voice was a low whisper, but the words were heavy with guilt.

“There were people living in that hole Jacob, like people the size of me to you, to me! Inches tall, and we accidentally destroyed their home.” Sam sighed. “We need to go back and tell Bobby and Dead to stay clear of here for a while.”

Jacob nodded slowly before the shock rolled in. “Wait tiny people?”

Sam nodded. “Yeah, here.” He lifted his hand in front of Jacob’s face. “See my fingers? That’s about how tall they are.”

Jacob stared at the small digits in fear. They were already smaller than a grain of rice in comparison to him, he couldn’t wrap his mind around an entire person being that small.

And he’d just destroyed their home without even knowing it.

Guilt hit him like a truck as he realized the consequences for his seemingly harmless action. He was just trying to keep Rumsfield from attacking Sam, but now as he let the dog go, he realized Rumsfield was trying to protect the tiny community.

Jacob had never felt more like a monster.

I spent an hour trying to get an accurate map of the Trails West Inn(?) for reference purposes for the artists and writers that would like to do things for your AU, also please feel free to point out any mistakes if you notice them! (The lines extended beyond the walls are where I remember there being potential entrances! And the square beyond the walls on the far left is the window with an AC underneath.)

Hershey Kisses and Salt Lines Epilogue

(( To avoid confusion, this is a submitted fanfiction, not BT canon. Please enjoy this story written by a fellow reader!))

Hi, I just had to do something about all those feels that you left us with from the ending of Hershey Kisses and Salt Lines, so I channeled them all into this fanfiction about your fanfiction 😛 I hope that you like it and approve

It had been years since they left. Since he’d had company. Or friends. Or safety. Or a full stomach.

Don’t get it wrong, though; Oscar was more than used to wandering through the empty, chilled motel walls, scavenging for food in an effort to ward of the perpetually impending claws of hunger, dealing with the solitude that encompassed his life.

He’d thought about finding a different home for himself more than once, a place not haunted by the memories, both good and bad, of the brothers and his mom. He’d even half-heartedly scouted out other areas of the motel, but he could never bring himself to go through with it. Oscar told himself it was because finding a new home wasn’t a necessity, and he couldn’t waste the time nor energy in making one, but, in all honesty, it was because of that faint whisper that still lingered in the back of his mind. Just in case they come back.

But Oscar knew that they wouldn’t. He’d long ago recognized the fact that the Winchesters had more than likely forgotten all about the small boy they had befriended all that time ago, before he had grown into the strapping borrower he is now. Yet, in spite of his surety, Oscar could never quite crush his lingering hope that one day, one day

Anyways.

Today, the borrower found himself traipsing through the memorized, cobweb riddled passageways of the walls to return to his humble abode after another unfortunately unsuccessful scavenging trip. Oscar dragged a weary and well-calloused hand over his face, a forlorn sigh escaping his lips. It looks like he’ll be going without dinner tonight. Again. Oh well. He’ll just go straight to sleep, even though his hunger will undoubtedly leak into his dreams, resurrecting ancient memories of popcorn and chocolate and fresh food.

Finally, Oscar arrived at the entrance of his home, only to freeze in his tracks. The door wasn’t in place, and he always made sure to secure his house; he couldn’t afford for any animals or insects to find their way inside and take what meager belongings and supplies he possessed. Hand finding the small needle that he kept at his side ever since the squirrel incident, Oscar drew in a deep breath, readying himself for whatever may lie ahead of him.

Stealthily creeping forward, the borrower listened intently for any clue as to what had broken in. When he was just outside the entryway, Oscar was able to make out the scuffling sounds of muffled … footsteps? Peering inside, his eyes widened as they beheld the figure before him. The stranger’s back was turned to Oscar, but he could make out that the intruder was very well built, had shaggy brown hair, and was considerably taller than Oscar.

Biting his lip, Oscar lingered in the shadow of the entrance, unsure about how to deal with the situation at hand. There was no way of knowing what this stranger wanted from him, and while Oscar wasn’t incompetent, there’s no doubt that the intruder before him would have the upper hand if it all came down to a fight.

Then, almost as if he sensed the eyes upon him, the stranger stiffened, only to relax after a beat. Pivoting in place, the stranger turned to face the door, squinting to try and see through the darkness. When his bright hazel eyes found Oscar’s surprised face, a wide, beaming smile with a set of dimples to boot was directed down at him. It was then that Oscar began to make the connections, see through the small changes that time had made to the other’s appearance, even though the borrower could now recognize that this was not just any stranger breaking into his home.

“Hey, Oz,” Sam said.

Oscar’s mouth worked soundlessly, suddenly unable to articulate or make any sense of anything as he was flooded with an overwhelming wave of emotion. Sensing the younger man’s struggle, Sam stepped forward, and enveloped the smaller man in an earnest embrace.

“S-Sam,” his voice cracked under the pressure behind it. His hands held tight to his friend’s shirt, clutching to the Winchester like a drowning man to a lifeboat. “I can’t believe- after all this time, you finally- You came back for me, Sam, you-”

Sam’s arms briefly tightened around the slim form before gently breaking away from the hug while continuing to hold the other’s shoulders at arms-length away. His brows were furrowed, eyes glistening as he intently looked at Oscar, who couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at the sight of the same exact puppy dog eyes he remembered from years ago once again appearing before him.

“Oz, I’m so sorry that we had to leave like that, that we left you behind, but we never forgot about you. And, yeah, it’s been a long time- too long -but Dean and I never stopped-”

“Dean?” Oscar questioned, his heart soaring at the thought of seeing the friendly giant once more.

“He’s here, too, Oz.” Came the heartfelt reply. “We’ve both missed you, you know?”

And as Oscar looked up into those big puppy dog eyes, he realized that, yeah, he did know.

“Hey, Sam?”

“Yeah?”

Oscar’s lips twitched, a mischievous, playful gleam dancing in his eyes for the first time in far too long. “Race ya.”

At those words, Oscar leaped out the door, elation finally triumphing over all the other emotions that had been waring inside of him. A shout of surprise echoed after him, before he heard Sam’s laughter joining his own as they ran through the walls to the very same room that the Winchesters had rented all that time ago to reunite with the big brother. After all of these years of waiting, his friends had finally returned, and Oz couldn’t be happier.
