October 1st excerpt:

As Sam was finishing with his hair, Dean packed the last of their supplies. He replaced the lid of the ceramic pot he’d found behind a dresser a few months back, covering up the dry food supplies they’d gathered to keep it fresh, and keep any bugs away from it. They would return here again, and if the food was still good, they would use it for meals. If not, they’d take it and dispose of it. It was best to avoid wasting what they took from the human side of the household.

With their place packed up and cleaned, they left it behind once more.

June 23rd excerpt:

In the cupboard, Dean slowly went through the new boxes John had brought home, wishing one or two of them was open or even just on the side. He finally decided to give climbing the new box of crackers a try; he just had to get his arm and knife in to tear a hole in the wrapper and get some food. Later on he could make a run for fresher food after the humans had their dinner.

Of course, Dean’s run of bad luck continued when he knocked over a small box of raisins trying to climb the bigger box.

“Sonovabitch!”

@neonthewrite– Those sorts of things would be very neat, and if the sprites ever had something like that around, the idea would have come from Sam. The only tricky part is having the parts in the right shape for something like that to work.

@nightmares06– Sam was a little young for this at the time. Dean was the more hands-on kid, and more likely to know the mechanics of something like that while Sam would rather look up the information in a book before attempting. He might have devised something as he aged, but unlike the hang glider where he had Bowman’s wings to poke at to help his design, he has nothing to reference.

References (Brothers Lost!)

Since I started getting commissions of my stories, I’ve been slowly compiling a bunch of references to use for these commissions. This new post will cover Sam and Dean both from Brothers Lost:

Before the curse, Dean made Sam a knife for protection. What he rarely mentions in Brothers Apart, at least up until he starts carrying the knife with him in The Schism of Fire and Water, is that he made a knife for himself. So both brothers in Brothers Lost are ready to fight to defend themselves, and they mean business. Don’t let their size deceive you.

Climbing is an essential skill for survival for both of these brothers, and they took advantage of Dean’s budding ability to search out what he needs to find these two. Sam’s was in an obvious area of the room (for them), dropped right in the closet. Dean found his own single prong hook mixed in with miscellaneous trash the fisherman left behind in his room. Without Dean’s knack, they would have overlooked the little silver glint in their hurry to leave when a maid arrived.

Walt made each brother their own bag out of leather. While Sam accepted the bag he was given without issue, Walt ended up making Dean a duffel bag just like he’d had as a kid, before the curse.

April 26th excerpt:

Paper birds? Dean mouthed at Sam in some confusion, eliciting a smile from his younger brother.

“Paper airplanes,” Sam corrected with the sound of someone who’d long since given up trying to argue with the name. “Y’know that pen I used? That’s not the only thing I had on me from the motel.” His ears turned red at the memory, sheepish about taking stuff from the room. “I had the notebook they supplied the room with on me too. I think most of the pages ended up being used for paper airplanes.”

“I’m surprised you didn’t run off with the Bible,” Dean joked, a full smile finally overtaking his face at the easy banter between them.

February 18th excerpt:

Dean scooped up the wires and pins into his arms and started to pack them away into his duffel. “No, I think you’re good. This is more than I asked for. I might have to start hiding the pins from Sam soon, he might throw them at me if he has to sit around much longer.”

Jacob snickered at the image of Sam tossing around pins the size of small daggers to him. They would be like slightly bulky throwing knives. “Maybe,” Jacob agreed, raising an eyebrow appraisingly at the pins as Dean stashed them away.

References

Since I started getting commissions of my stories, I’ve been slowly compiling a bunch of references to use for these commissions. Here’s a list of the items Sam uses in his life:

Don’t underestimate Sam or his knife. He might be small, but that’s still a nasty-ass blade to deal with. And now he’s learning how to use it best.

Sam’s hook for his fish line. This is what he uses to get around the motel rooms with, and having three (nasty) sides makes it easier to catch. If he ever needs too, he can use it as a weapon just like the knife.

Sam’s satchel is actual leather, so his will stand up to wear more than this one. But the pockets are in the right places and it has two leather straps to hold it in place.
