Can we have more Bobby and his ‘neighbors’? Like him getting seeds that they take care of, its not helping if he just gives them the resources for their own food…

Maybe!

He certainly does his best to not interfere with their lives out in the field (and now in his house, at least in Brothers Apart). Part of that is he’s more lax about locking up possibly useful supplies or clearing all the food. Rumsfeld always keeps a sharp lookout for any actual threats, human or animal. All they really need to worry about is other hunters that work with Bobby prowling around when he’s not looking.

What about when Sam was shrunk, started being cared for by Walt and Mallory, Dean comes back to the motel and finds a shrunken Sam along with the Watches. He decides early on that he would thank them for taking care of his younger brother while he was away, and finds out about Bree, manages to find other operations along the way and save them. Also Bobby gets involved as a sort of ‘safe haven’

Sounds like fun! Younger Dean, totally upsetting the delicate balance at the motel like he’s so good at. He would have to work hard to charm the crew enough for trust, but Sam certainly would love to have him around. Bobby’s home is always open to refugees, and smol ones like the borrowers aren’t even a strain on his resources.

Nightmares

Sam stirred as he heard something bump into something nearby, sleepily he turned to see his younger brother making his way through the dark with his hands outstretched in front of him. “Jacob?”
“Sorry, did I wake you?” Jacob turned, squinting at the direction of Sam’s voice, after only a couple months of being cursed his eyesight had improved significantly in the dark but it still had a long way to go.
Sam brushed Jacobs question off, instead asking his own, “What are you doing up so late?”
“I had another nightmare.” He mumbled.
“Come here.” Sam scooted over so Jacob would have room to sit with him. “Do you want to talk about it?”
Jacob remained silent and for a moment Sam thought he had drifted off to sleep, “Not really, can I just stay here?”
“Of course, and don’t worry about the nightmares. The first few months are always the hardest.”
They sat there in a comfortable silence, both silently morning what they had lost.
Walt found them there in the morning, both leaning on each other for support in their sleep, he smiled, loving both of his sons

I would like to enter this in the contest.

Thank you for the contest submission, @max-lenning!

Walt and Sean

neonthewrite:

My entry for the 2018 Brothers Apart tumblr contest. I wanted to write something with @nightmares06‘s Walt Watch, since he’s one of my favorites and he recently had some huge character development in the latest story of the Brothers Apart AU. This is set sometime in the weeks/months after the first story, after Sam has left with Dean under the assumption that Walt didn’t survive the events of that story.

Hope you enjoy it! Reading time approx. 10 minutes.

Walt knew something was wrong before he had time to fully wake up. Something like a heavy weight settled over his heart and he sighed without opening his eyes. Life had thrown him too many strange new things in so many months. Sometimes he wondered if he would ever have some semblance of what he had before.

Before Mallory … before Bree … his family had been fragmented, time and time again. What had he done for fate to lay its hands on him like that not once, but twice? He didn’t even know what had become of Sam.

That boy … Walt had known what he was, and hadn’t cared. In his old life, he was as much a danger to Walt as any other human.

Seeing that little face, full of fear he tried to hide, had decided for him. He and Mallory had been no match for those plaintive hazel eyes, full of tears the boy didn’t want to release. Walt still remembered the mumbled excuses about chick-flick moments. He didn’t even know what that meant and he could tell Sam’s heart wasn’t in the words.

The boy had lost his family. Just like Walt and Mallory had lost their baby girl not a year before. They might not understand everything Sam lost, but they understood that. There was no turning him away.

And now he was gone. Mallory was gone. Walt was alone, if not for–

“Walt?” Krissy’s voice was cautious and quiet, but Walt had known the girl long enough to recognize something else in it. Worry. His pale blue eyes opened at last to take in the concerned shadows on her face.

October 18th excerpt:

Jacob reached out to close the phone with a click of plastic against plastic. He pondered the conversation, finding even more questions in it that he could ask. Who’s Walt came to mind, but he knew better. Sam had hardly talked about any of the other people in his life; Jacob wasn’t going to ask him about someone unless Sam started that conversation.

It was weird. Sam was the same size as Bowman, but the similarities stopped there. With Bowman, it was hard to get a word in sometimes.

With Sam, awkward silences could pop up out of nowhere. He was an enigmatic little guy.

This one required much deep thought, so it took a little longer to answer compared to normal.

( @nightmares06‘s type is INFP )

Walt Watch– ESTJ

He is not actively social, but he is action-oriented. If something’s about to happen, he’s going to be there whether he wants to or not. He has a strong sense of duty (including to his more gigantic family members he seems to pick up), and will take charge if it is needed.

Not adventurous at all, but gets dragged into adventures anyway.

Nixie/Ilyana– Impossible to determine

Neither sprite is human, and their personalities, though clashing, each lack something that humans have in them. Nixie is an empath but lacks any decisive abilities. Her life is following orders, whether it be through a summons or through a binding spell. This often makes her more of an automaton than any human would be. Ilyana, on the other hand, lacks empathy and understanding for anyone who isn’t a sprite. She and the other fire sprites are sociopathic, but only to non-sprites.

Moira Wainscot– INFJ

Warm and understanding, her curiosity and desire to grow coincides well with her older adopted brothers. They enjoy teaching her what they can as much as she wants to learn it.

Sometimes, her determination is stronger than their stubbornness.

( @neonthewrite is I and F, but landed in the middle between S/N and J/P )

Jacob Andris– INFP

Jacob is friendly, but he doesn’t necessarily seek out new people spontaneously. He’s very go-with-the-flow, and he’s far for perceptive than people might first think from looking at him. He’s loyal and makes an effort to be calm and patient with people. He embodies chill.

Bowman Leafwing– ES(T/F)P

Bowman’s harder to pin down as far as MBTI types go. He’s brash and loud and quite willing to jump into an argument, with a lot of focus on the here and now, the concrete facts that he has available to him. Even so, he’s flexible and able to take in new information well, even if he grumbles about it. He’s a good problem solver, and tenacious as all get out.

Oscar the OC– INFJ

Despite having such a similar type to Jacob, Oscar has some key differences. He’s much more dependent on some form of organization to keep himself grounded, and he’s afraid of new people in most cases. Even so, he idealizes the thought of being calm, even if he’s very much not. Keeping structure in his life is paramount to his emotional well-being.

( @borrowedtimeandspace is IN(F/T)P )

Stan Baker– ENFJ

He is a natural and inspirational leader, and makes friends easily, particularly with people he works with. He reads people well, sees their inner potential, and does what he can to bring that potential to fruition. Full of warmth and empathy, he sees emotional needs in others and often is the one to help them through it and learn to grow from it.

September 1st excerpt:

Sam found himself sitting at attention on Dean’s shoulder, unable to relax while the thought of kids in danger besieged him. Sam could only pray they weren’t too late to help.

After a few failed attempts to make conversation, Sam fell into a topic that was bothering him the most. “So, pretty wild what we found out about Walt, right?”

Bittersweet Parting

You guessed it, and the sneak peek is here! Welcome to what will become the last story in season two of Brothers Apart!

Dean stepped up to the door, one huge hand raising up to knock. The hollow sound reverberated around Walt, more powerful than he could manage if he hit the door with all his might.

The sound died off, leaving them alone with the crickets chirping in the grass and Rumsfeld whining from by Dean’s side. The Rottweiler wagged his tail when Walt peered off the edge, prancing in place at the sight of the smaller people sitting up on Dean’s shoulder.

A distant “Come in!” made its way to where they stood, and Sam and Dean both frowned in unison, a silent look passing between them.

“What is it?” Walt asked warily, disliking the way the air filled with tension.

“Might be nothing,” Dean muttered, his voice staying low for them.

“Might be something,” Sam interjected, one hand tight on Dean’s collar while the other rested against his brother’s neck. “Bobby always answers the door. He doesn’t trust people in his house.”

“With good reason.”

By some silent accord the brothers had, Dean pushed open the door and Sam hunkered down, pulling Walt down with him.

For a man who stood near nineteen times Walt’s height, Dean’s footsteps were light and carefully placed to avoid the creak of wood. He knew this house close to as well as he knew the Impala, using that knowledge to stalk towards where the voice had come from.

Dean reached the doorway, and went rigid before Walt could see what he was looking at.

Sam gasped, his hands falling away from Dean and Walt. Walt felt his body fill with tension all over again at the sight of the men in the room.

“Boys,” John Winchester greeted, sitting across the desk from where Bobby sat.

All surprise and shock aside, everyone heard Walt’s voice suddenly cut across the thick silence that padded John’s greeting.

“It’s you,” Walt breathed, his eyes locked on Bobby Singer.

The time for questions to be answered has come! Don’t miss Bittersweet Parting!

July 19th excerpt:

“We both will,” came a deeper voice, and Sam gave a start, looking up to find just the corner of Dean’s eye looking towards them. It was difficult for Dean to interact with them on his shoulder, but not impossible.

Dean smirked at Sam’s surprise. “Do you really think I can’t hear you there, pint-size?” He shook his head mournfully, a joke sparkling in his eye. “I thought you knew better.”

Sam huffed with frustration, and Walt had to stifle a chuckle at his expense.
