What just happened?

That thought swirled on repeat in Stan Baker’s head as he returned to his flat, a place small enough for the 21 year old to afford on his own humble salary. He leaned against the door after it shut, stunned.

“Rough day?”

Deep green eyes widened and darted to the side. Sitting idly on the hooks on the wall meant to hold keys or coats, hooks Stan rarely used for such things, was a tiny woman no taller than a finger.

After a moment of staring, Stan let out a huff of a sigh that ruffled the woman’s short hair. He recognized her. Hard not to,she hadn’t changed a bit since the last time he saw her.

“Don’t people normally outgrow their imaginary friends?” he asked dryly.

She shrugged. “Suppose so. I always did think we had a special something, though.”

He shot her a flat look. “Well, thanks for dropping by, Tinkerbell, but I’ve grown up.”

“Zepheera,” she corrected, pushing herself up to stand balanced on the metal hook, hands on her hops. “Bit childish to resort to name-calling, don’t ya think?”

Again Stan huffed. “I don’t need to listen to this. You’re not even real.”

A moment passed between them.

“Well?” Zepheera prodded.“You’ve got long legs. Go ahead and leave if you don’t want me around.”

Stan’s brow furrowed, but he couldn’t look Zepheera in the eye. When he still didn’t make a move to leave, he sighed.

“Not a rough day,” he admitted, answering her initial question. “Just…kind of a weird one.”

At last he met her much smaller gaze, tiny pinpricks of violet that once had Stan convinced she was a faerie of some kind. With those eyes as kind as ever, Zepheera offered a small smile. “I’m up for tea if you wanna chat about it.”

Stan couldn’t refuse.

As always, Zepheera was a good listener. She sipped her tea evenly (from a cup Stan could swear she materialized out of thin air, unless she simply carried it around all the time in her tiny rucksack) and waited patiently for the end of Stan’s story.

“Sounds like you’ve got a new job lined up,” she commented.

“I haven’t accepted the offer yet,” Stan reminded her.

“And why not?”

Stan ran a hand through his hair.“Because… It’s a big decision. Punching out the occasional creep on the street is one thing, but this… If I make good here, I’ll be dealing with serious criminals. Terrorists, too. I could die.

The words hung heavy in the air for a few breaths, a solemn silence broken after Zepheera finished off the last dregs of her tea and got to her feet.

“Well,” she sighed, making her way slowly closer to Stan as she stowed her cup away, “the Stan Baker I know never could sit back while bullies were running rampant.”

Stan chuckled and found his chin lowering onto his folded arms the closer Zepheera came.

With a smile, she gave a small shrug.“And, not saying you will, but if things do get hairy out there, at least you’ll die doing what you love. Walking into danger.”

Stan blinked at Zepheera’s phrasing, feeling hope creep up on him. Then he heaved a world-weary breath, slumping his shoulders and burying his face in his arms.

A feather-light touch patted against one of his knuckles, and from that same direction Zepheera said, “See ya ‘round, Baker. Do what you think is right.”

The next time Stan looked up, Zepheera had vanished. Just like she always did.

“Don’t think I won’t,” he grinned.

In the Jacob In Wonderland story, when Jacob and Sam were stuck in the doll/toy shop, Jacob saw his friend Bobby Loran and thought to try to communicate with him but at the end he thought against it. If I remember correctly, you wrote in the notes at the end of that chapter that it’s a good thing Bobby didn’t see Jacob was real. So, what would have happened to Jake if Bobby would have noticed him??

It’s not that Bobby is necessarily the worst option out there. He has a very bad track record with little guys so far in every story I’ve written him in (beginning with his original canon appearance in Bowman of Wellwood). The guy thinks that being bigger = being in charge. Combine that with seeing his normally 6′5″ friend at such a small size, and there would be a lot of teasing. He’d most likely be a bit too harsh for such a little guy before he stopped to listen.

Sam, being the independent and confident little guy that he is, would probably annoy Bobby a bit (Why isn’t he acting at least a little intimidated???). They’d need Jacob there to keep him focused.

Out of curiosity, I calculated how the spacing between the finger ridges look at different scales. At x1 scale they are about 0.3-0.4 mm apart, so to a smol (x19) it would look like 5.7-7.6 mm. For teddy Jacob, Dean’s (x50.66667) would look 15.2-20.3 mm apart, while Sam’s (x2.66667) would be 0.8-1.07 mm. As for giant Jacob, his ridges would look 108-144 mm apart to smol Sam (x360) and 288-384 mm to teddy Jacob (x960)! They both could fit their whole hand inside one of those valleys, easy!!!

Hot damn, so big!

That lil guy better keep his distance from the most giant giant! This is a handy reference.

September 30th excerpt:

Shadowed in the night, a woman was standing directly behind him. Small, petite, her short brown hair pushed behind her ears to show off sharp blue eyes, she stood no higher than Jacob’s chest. Black fabric was swathed around her arms, keeping them warm from the coming chill in folds of darkness.

“I know you,” she said, taking a step forward. “You’re with the Winchester boys.”

Remember in taken from brothers apart that dean took the borrowers from that motel? What if they had to stop on the way (plot reasons) and found knights inn, took him and everyone else to trails west?

The BA bros would be amaze to meet Oscar! He’s done so much, surviving on his own that long!

They would certainly offer, since they’re helping so many others relocate at the time. Oscar wouldn’t have to live on his own, and he’d have more of a support system than he does at his current place, where the others live so far apart.

Plus, Sam always can drop in on their friend and make sure he’s doing okay in his new home.

Quick question: What would happen if Jacob met Oscar and somehow convinced him to come home with him?

The cutest and dorkiest interactions ever would happen is what. You have the biggest teddy and the tiniest mouse, trying to figure each other out. Honestly, once Jacob figures out how scary he is to such a little guy, he’s completely flop. He’d work so hard to try to get some trust, even just have Oscar talk to him for a while.

From there, he’s got a task of getting Oscar to actually leave the only place he’s ever known. I’m not sure if he would be able to do it in just one visit, but the best selling point he has is the cooking back home. All that warm, hearty food that Jacob’s mom makes would do wonders for little Oscar’s health!

There is actually the beginnings of an AU like this in the works already, with the first story posted over on my writing blog: here

September 29th excerpt:

Before Dean lost his resolve, he stuck his hand out like he’d been shown as a kid to offer the dog his scent, his fingers stretched out as far as they could go in an attempt to make his hand as big as possible. He didn’t know if it was going to make a difference considering his entire body was smaller than a normal person’s hand, but maybe she’d understand and recognize the gesture and consider him like any other human, instead of a treat or toy.

“H-hey girl,” Dean stuttered out. “We’re all friends here, right?”

Artwork by @wolfie180g!

I started wondering, what would happen if A Lich of Sense/Bothering Bowman took place in Faedell (my own fictional forest filled with tiny winged magical beings) instead of Wellwood? Fun idea, so I wrote out an outline. It HEAVILY parallels the original two, of course. But I realized that it also kinda feels like I’m just replacing Bowman with a fairy. Especially since I decided it would be more fun with Jacob there. And that wasn’t my intent, I love Bowman, but that’s how it kinda looks now.

Bowman might bop if anyone tries replacing him!

Just try not to imply that you’re replacing neon’s characters in the stories, she’s sensitive about that subject, no matter how many times we tell her she’s here to stay.

The forest you have sounds like an interesting place! I’d be interested in seeing what you came up with from that story idea!
