July 30th excerpt:

Jacob was exasperated. There were gigantic fingertips as close to his throat as they could be without touching it, while Dean attempted to fix up the tiny tie. Fingertips that were callused but used to working with the tiniest parts of a gun. Jacob wouldn’t have believed a human could be so careful with something so small if he hadn’t seen it in action before.

Even so, he stood very still with his head tilted back so he wouldn’t get in Dean’s way. “Never did figure out how people could get the knot so straight,” he said, filling the silence before he could stop and think too much of how ridiculous the scene must look.

Bowman Lost Excerpt

neonthewrite:

The human took notes and sketches, stretched out Bowman’s wings and other limbs so he could note where the joints were and how they moved. He even learned, without Bowman telling him, that the wings could photosynthesize.

Bowman never opened up about how it all worked. A part of him worried just how far the giant would go for the answers, but other than some uncomfortable sessions with a wing stretched out for sketching and measuring, he wasn’t harmed.

Not on the outside, anyway.

If the wings dried out, it would be uncomfortable at the very least for the sprite. Painful, if it got bad enough. The wings are very sensitive to the air around them, so if they were dry and more brittle than normal then the poor sprite would be very sore. Of course, not being able to photosynthesize as efficiently would be a side effect, leading to fatigue and other related conditions that would make life harder for them.

As for Bowman’s fussing about his wings, he tends to go above and beyond what’s strictly needed. He might be willowy and lean, but he’s technically an athlete by their standards, so he keeps his wings stretched and fit. He preens regularly to massage the overworked joints, and he takes every opportunity to put them to use.

July 29th excerpt:

Jacob was still messing awkwardly with his tie when Dean stepped out of the bathroom. His suit was on, and he was absently adjusting the collar when he spotted Jacob’s trouble. “So I guess this means it fits?” Dean asked casually as he came over to the table, eyeing up how the suit sat on Jacob’s shoulders. “Maybe not perfect, but beggars can’t be choosers…” He trailed off as he leaned in towards Jacob. They both already knew it was hard to find good clothing in Jacob’s size.

“Lemme give you a hand…” Dean offered as he reached automatically for the tiny tie Jacob was trying to straighten. He doubted a guy the size of a finger had much use for clothing so fancy, unless there were pint-sized balls by the mice in the walls.

This is the fastest and most accurate we’ve had for a guess!

Jacob finds himself on the road, taken by a man with a dark past. Dean Winchester lost his little brother when he was only a teen, and took Jacob in to give him a second chance.

Together these two will have to come to terms with their differences or neither will find their way home.

Since this one only just started posting the excerpts, we will again wait until after the excerpts have finished to post the sneak peek! Also, look for a few other sneak peeks coming soon from the stories successfully guessed before this challenge started!

July 28th excerpt:

“A suit, though?” Jacob asked, exasperation leaking into his tone. He’d look like some stupid doll if he wore that. “It’ll just get messed up in a pocket anyway… ” he trailed off and shoved his hands into his pocket again. Dean seemed so damn pleased with his idea. “It’s not like I mind the helping, and we both know I’d rather run the other direction if monsters or kids show up.”

Dean brightened up at that. “Exactly! So long as we’re on the same page when it comes to hunting, we won’t have a problem out there. You get to come along and help with research and listen in on interviews, and I gank the creeps that cause it.”

That decided, the little suit was placed on the table next to the collection of clothing Dean had brought with him. “There’s a case a few towns over we can head to once we eat,” Dean said.

“I… huh,” Jacob muttered, his brow furrowing. He hadn’t thought he was just agreeing to the suit, but he supposed he could see why it sounded that way. Shit. Can’t take it back now, he thought ruefully.

Dean was too damn proud of himself for the idea.

July 27th excerpt:

And,” Dean continued, growing prouder, if that was possible. He lifted up his other hand, withdrawing one last item from his other jacket pocket where it had been stashed to avoid getting crumpled up with the rest of the clothing. A tiny suit dangled from his fingertips, complete with a bitty tie in Jacob’s size. Dean brandished it next to Jacob. “You can come with me when I interview people now!”
