February 18th excerpt:

The fabric of the pocket shifted around Sam, and for a moment he thought it was Dean waking up. But he soon came to realize that the surface they lay on was steady. Dean’s chest rose and fell with a slowness only found in sleep, his heartbeat constant.

Jacob.

Sam’s eyes snapped open and he instinctively grabbed Jacob’s ankle before his younger brother could get all the way out of the pocket.

“Whatareyoudoing?” Sam mumbled, blinking blearily.

Announcement!

This one is a little less exciting than the last announcement, and sadly completely unrelated to Breath of the Wild, but as @nightmares06 has recently had all of her responsibilities at her job increased, she also has less free time.

Because of this, we’ll be lowering the number of times we post chapters each week to 2 for the indeterminate future– it may change back to 3, or if the job remains as stressful, it may stay at 2.

Everyone gets to weigh in on what days of the week we post, so you’re welcome to participate in a quick poll to help us decide!

Vote here!

All dates will have a posting time of 9pm est.

One vote per person, any duplicate votes will be removed. Poll will end when votes stop trickling in.

New weekly schedule will take effect after Garlic and Cold Spots is completed.

Bree was very into exploration before she was taken– in fact, the poor dear was doing just that when she got caught!

If she’d never been taken away, she would have pushed the boundaries more and more as she grew older, bringing her friend Krissy, willing or not, along with her as she went. She’s the type that would be more likely to strike out after she grew up and find her own place to live, perhaps bringing a family with her or finding new people on her own.

Krissy at least had that less familial feel to her when they grew up together, and Sam always looked out for the girl, helping her get supplies to support her family. She’s very introverted, and never went out to the rooms on her own, a big reason Walt chose to move in with her and her mother and little brother after losing his Mallory and assuming Sam was dead.

Based on how my husband ended up (with three sisters and his mother) compared to other friends of ours, Sam would be inured to subjects like that, used to it as a part of life.

February 17th excerpt:

Bowman glanced up from the food he was examining and then looked away from Dean almost immediately. Giants, he discovered, could drink enough water in one gulp to swallow up an entire sprite. Bowman’s instincts, a deep-seated fear of predators, barked at him that he could be next. He shuddered, but pushed the thought aside. Judging by the way Dean kept the jar close by when he was around, he would rather keep Bowman, maybe like the people in his pocket.

He eyed the drop of water spilled by Dean’s offered bucket. It was tough to decide if that was better than Logan’s plan for him.

Announcement!

Just a brief note for all our lovely loyal followers!

We’re actually going to change up excerpts from what we’re currently writing to something we’ve already written, for a story.

Why?

Because both night and neon are obsessively Legend of Zelda fans, and with the new game Breath of the Wild coming out March 3rd, we are going to go out on a limb and predict that writing may be slowing down after the Nintendo Switch launch.

Fear not!

During this time, we’ve still got plenty of stories to post, so if we take a brief writing break, we won’t lose any ground. And we also think you could all use a little treat…

So we’re going to post excerpts from the Horror Story!

We’ll do our best to avoid spoilers as usual, but once the current excerpts from #teome have all finished posting, you will get to see some extra special excerpts from the horror story.

Be sure to let us know what you think!

February 16th excerpt:

“I think I can make that work,” Dean said, spreading out his food in front of him. He tore open a granola bar and the trail mix; the last thing he’d need was Sam or Jacob bitching at him for not picking their favorite, and carefully picked out something of everything. He sent a quick glance Logan’s way. With the other hunter preoccupied, Dean took advantage of a free moment to take his handful of food and drop it swiftly into his chest pocket.

The pocket struggled in surprise, then came two swift elbows in unison to his chest when Sam and Jacob figured out what he’d done.

They’d have a hard time getting their independence, but I feel like John’s friends, such as Bobby and Pastor Jim would help Sam and Dean out here. The brothers can’t be stifled for their entire lives, after all. Bobby especially would be a huge help.

There won’t be any Brothers Apart AU like this written by me because I don’t enjoy writing John Winchester, but by all means if anyone wants to give it a try, they’re welcome to!

February 15th excerpt:

Dean absently hummed the music from Smoke on the Water as he slipped behind the trees, going deeper in. Only a few stray rays of sunlight made it this deep into the trees, the rest of the area lit by a deeper green from the leaves blocking the light. Once he was sure Logan wasn’t following, Dean relaxed with a sigh. “That wasn’t in the plan,” he muttered to himself, and to his tiny brothers, who could finally come out.
