@nightmares06 – Oo, tough choices, but I’d go with Sam’s situation. I like the adventurous side of the size shenanigans. Exploring in a huge world, going in the walls (possibly shitting my pants if I see any bugs or spiders), and a sibling to count on.

Also, giant food. Win win.

@neonthewrite – This one’s hard. I rarely imagine myself as the subject of a gt story. In the end, though, I’d feel way more comfortable if I had to be tiny rather than big. It’s easier to hide when I’m self conscious which is like 70 percent of the time.

I wouldn’t want to go it alone, though. I’d want someone I could trust around to help me out with the big ol’ world. And someone’s gotta pay for the giant food (yes I’m using the same argument, that’s the sign of a good argument).

@borrowedtimeandspace – I have to agree, being tiny is the way to go! It’s the main reason I got so into The Borrowers in the first place, imagining myself that small, picturing how big things would look at that size. Yeah bugs would suck, but if I’ve got a tol to lean on, I’d like to think I’d be alright.

Plus, I’d be so nervous around a friend who’s been downsized. I’d do my best to keep them safe, but I’d be on edge 24/7.

Sneak Peek of First Hunt!

The last thing Jacob Andris ever expected was to find himself cursed by a witch to live out his life under half a foot tall. He never expected to find himself becoming part of a family that once would fit in his hand.

And he certainly never expected to find himself adopted by a hunter twenty times his size.

Jacob’s heart rate jumped up for a few seconds at the sound of an unfamiliar voice in the dim lighting. He had to squint a little to find the man’s face as he sluggishly pushed himself up to lean against the backboard of the bed. Jacob shivered; he didn’t remember it being so cold before. He rubbed his eyes before looking at the silvery cup offered to him.

He couldn’t resist taking it and drinking down its contents quickly to soothe his parched throat. With that done, he looked around some more, letting his eyes adjust (as much as they could) to the light. The only source that he could see was the ceiling, where long cracks between the thick beams let light in in dusty golden bars. A part of him wondered why they didn’t just put a lamp in this room.

“Where …” Jacob managed to rasp, before he noticed the pile of huge blankets in one corner. He glanced across at the desk and chair, and the curtain blocking the rest of wherever the hell this was from view. There was a shoulder bag next to the chair and Jacob raised his eyebrows in surprise at the sight of a three-pronged hook sticking out of it. The barbs alone had to be the length of his fingers.

It inevitably drew him back to the man in the room with him. He wore jeans and a plain grey t-shirt, covered by a jacket with numerous pockets. There was something off about him, but Jacob couldn’t quite place it in the lack of light. After a moment, he found his voice, a list of questions all crowding into his mind at once.

“Who are you? Is this a basement? Where’s my mom?”

First Hunt coming 10/25/16

October 23rd excerpt:

Sam carefully arranged the food, pushing the slices of mushroom to form straight edges and adding the raisin in for good effect. The crackers formed the curves, with the wheat cereal helping thicken the line, and for balance Sam used his knife to scrape off the mustard and add it to the design, highlighting the word with yellowy emphasis.

NO.

No, they wouldn’t accept food left out like that. Sam thought it got his point across perfectly. He glanced over his shoulder at John, and his smile was a little easier this time. “Think he’ll get the point?”

It has indeed! In fact, the second part of BF was a part of the poll last week, it just had the bad luck to not be chosen.

For the main three AUs of Lost, Found and Adopted, the first three stories are written and completed, giving us some leeway while we try and finish up more stories for everyone to read in the future. All three AUs were a part of the last poll, along with a few others 😉

We hope to keep it from getting too confusing, but it’s hard since we don’t want to ignore all the other AUs in order to post all of one! Just let us know if you ever have a question about the many, many storylines going.

Celeste very rarely gives away her secrets, and often uses the promise of knowledge like that to taunt her victims. Sam still only has vague notions of why he himself was cursed, so it can be assumed she won’t be letting us in on that secret for a good long while.

So far the only knowledge we have of her in Brothers Adopted is her brief appearance in the short story Ice Cream.

More of Jacob’s past will be revealed in First Hunt, so stay tuned!

@nightmares06 – Oh man. They’re both so fun. I guess it depends on what I’d want out of the experience.

If I want to learn about how to be a smol, Sam’s the way to go. He adapted to the lifestyle the best out of the pair. No one can find a way into the walls as fast as he can, he’s got climbing down to a science, and he knows when to keep out of sight.

But then again, if I want to just have an experience, Dean knows all the ways to get into trouble. To just casually strolling over Jacob’s newspaper like he owns the place to having a giant Sam bring him pie, Dean will live it up, and spends his time training for a fight.

Personally, I’d pick Dean, but both would be so much fun.

@neonthewrite – The bros are good choices for hangout buddies for sure. If it were me, though, I think I’d be unable to resist hanging out with little Oscar. That poor guy is very isolated and lonely, but he’s an introvert like me. There’d be no pressure on either of us to be super social with the whole thing.

I kind of owe the little guy a hug anyway. At the very least, since I’ve put him through so much. He’d have to come out of his shell just a little so I could help him find a jackpot of food! Skinny borrower needs some weight on his bones.

@borrowedtimeandspace – As much as I’d love to spend a day with either bitty bro, I have to go for my OC Zepheera. She’s much more of a badass than I am, she’ll keep me safe from the mean things lurking in the big old world. She’d take me places some other borrowers would be hesitant to, and I’d probably badger her for stories from decades before I was born, to learn how far borrowers have come in her lifetime.

October 22nd excerpt:

There it was again. Another mention of Sam and Dean’s childhood, possibly a history with other humans. Simply recalling Dean’s reference to someone dislocating Sam’s shoulder in their youth made John’s half-full stomach turn. But it didn’t take a detective to see that Sam was still quite shy and nervous around John, another human, so he filed that away for another time.

Though something in him doubted ‘another time’ would ever come.

“Can I ask where you’re from?” John ventured, trying to keep up a friendly tone. “It’s just, the accent is a little…telling.”

And the winner is…

First Hunt!

The last thing Jacob Andris ever expected was to find himself cursed by a witch to live out his life under half a foot tall. He never expected to find himself becoming part of a family that once would fit in his hand.

And he certainly never expected to find himself adopted by a hunter twenty times his size.

Presenting the second story of Brothers Adopted!

First Hunt was written before excerpts, but a sneak peek is coming over the weekend!

Final poll results:

  • Sam of Wellwood – 18
  • Like a Moth to Flame – 24
  • Bothering Bowman – 18
  • First Hunt – 25
  • The Water’s Fine – 17

A very close poll! It came down to the last few votes.

Please be warned that after First Hunt ends, we will be streamlining the voting process by using Survey Monkey. The popularity of the stories has grown enough for us to expand to a better format. Asks and replies for your vote in the poll will no longer be accepted at that time.
