So, if anyone follows me on tumblr, they might have seen that I am currently in a bit of a bind moneywise. My car is having issues, I have a funeral I need to go to next week that’s five states away (we lost my aunt, who was suffering from a tumor for several years now), and I’m having health issues of my own that involve a cardiologist (it’s been super scary and stressful!).

Longer commissions are also possible, message me for details on pricing.

What I will write–

July 19th excerpt:

“We both will,” came a deeper voice, and Sam gave a start, looking up to find just the corner of Dean’s eye looking towards them. It was difficult for Dean to interact with them on his shoulder, but not impossible.

Dean smirked at Sam’s surprise. “Do you really think I can’t hear you there, pint-size?” He shook his head mournfully, a joke sparkling in his eye. “I thought you knew better.”

Sam huffed with frustration, and Walt had to stifle a chuckle at his expense.

The way the curse itself works on the cursed children actually heightens their immune systems along with making them far stronger than an average human.

It’s extremely hard to get them sick with a common cold or the flu or even regular viruses. Not impossible, but as close to it as they can get. Their bodies fight off the infections long before they notice.

Getting drunk is far easier, and their own damn fault if they do it (smol Dean could use some lessons in portion control when it comes to drinking).

Of course, living most of their lives without getting common illnesses also leaves them incredibly unprepared if someone does get sick, the way Sam had no idea how to tend his older brother when Dean made the mistake of drinking until he got the worst hangover.

They’re much better at this now with some schooling from Jacob.

For the borrowers, they have a 9 month term pregnancy, just like humans! Having a child is more dangerous, because instead of going to a hospital and getting help from a doctor, they have no pain medication and instead rely on a midwife, often a close friend that lives nearby, especially in America, where they’re spread out. In London, they do have more specialized trades, so there would be an actual midwife to help.

Wood sprites tend to have a slightly shorter term. Luckily, they have a strong community around them to help with the birth. In Wellwood, the new mother is usually led somewhere just outside the village when it’s time, and then once the baby is born and cleaned up they come back home. Mama rests and everyone holds the new baby sprout. Thank the Spirit that wood sprites are born with their wings all curled up!

TorchMLP: So do any Borrowers try to use softer metals for anything? Like aluminum cans are easy to melt and shape into something else, and are also pretty sharp
nightmares06: The ones in the motels or houses wouldn’t, but they’d try something like this in the burrow where they have a fire pit going
nightmares06: And all that scrap metal from Bobby
TorchMLP: lol I’m sure Bobby’s got a lot of interesting things in his yard
nightmares06: And he’ll never even notice it missing in that heap
Neon: The borrowers can get a ride from Rumsfeld to go shopping XD
TorchMLP: XD Pack dog

May 23rd excerpt:

Jacob stumbled out of Dean’s grasp, halting where he stood as he took in the scene. To one side, a fork and knife more than twice his body length stretched out on a folded napkin. Jacob could see countless nicks and scratches in the metal from years of use. On the other, the laminated menu with occasional pictures of what the restaurant had to offer filled up plenty of space. The table expanded beyond that, shiny finish on polished wood adding to the atmosphere.

Above, a deer head mounted to the wall watched the rest of the room with glassy eyes from a better vantage point than Jacob had. He could hear other humans chatting, dishes clinking together, the chiming of the bell as yet more customers wandered in.

There are several select differences between them, their height the chief difference so far. More will be mentioned in the future, but for now know that none of the smols in my story that are like Walt Watch will ever come close to six inches in height. Four inches is tall for them, and four and a quarter would likely be close to their tallest.

“Borrowers” and “littles” are just names applied to them by humans over the years, and they don’t see the point in arguing against them. They’ve lost the memory of where they came from.

It really depends on the littles in question! There’s no “they like it” or “they hate it” here.

Someone like Walt or Arthur would see it as unnecessary, a frivolous pursuit for humans who don’t have to spend their days trying to survive. On the flipside, Mallory would love to discover embroidery, and how to do it for herself. She could spruce up their home, add some more splashes of color to brighten the place up.

In Britain, with the closer knit society, they don’t need to focus solely on survival. Some of the borrowers over there spend most of their lives sewing, and if they want to add some flourish to the fabric, they can do so. They trade for what they need, resulting in more specialized skillsets over the pond.

Sneak Peek of Garlic and Cold Spots!

Near a forgettable motel in Breckenridge, Colorado, people are dying. Crushed beneath furniture and falling cars, the stories form a clear circle around the Knights Inn. Now Dean and his two tiny brothers, Sam and Jacob, are on their way to unravel the case and help all the motels’ residents– down to the very smallest.

‘You two are free to leave the bag?’ Did he really just …?

That was the last thing Oscar expected to hear, and so he kept watching curiously from his hiding place under the dresser. He had been scoping out the room for supplies and food, as was his usual. It was some ungodly hour of the night, so he really hadn’t expected someone to check in.

He’d barely made it to the floor in time from the top of the dresser when he heard a car pull up. The lock was turning with a metallic scraping that seemed so much louder in his frantic ears. Human! The dangerous word barked in his head. Oscar barely dragged his safety pin grappling hook under the dresser in time for the lights to switch on.

He had been about to breathe a sigh of relief, but his nerves amped up a few more steps when a loud crash filled the room. Oscar had peeked out to see what it was in time for the human to set down a second bag much more carefully than the first. The first duffel had sounded like it might be full of a bunch of spare parts, while the other looked like it held clothes.

Oscar couldn’t help but think things were completely backwards. The clothes bag could be tossed down without a care, but the other one was just obnoxiously loud.

And then of course came ‘You two are free to leave the bag,’ after moving a shirt away. Oscar frowned at the scene. He felt a sinking in his stomach that turned into plain fear when he saw two people, people his size climbing out of the clothes bag and onto the bed. He ducked back under the dresser, making sure he was in the shadows and out of sight.

His heart was pounding a frantic beat. Oscar’s entrance to the walls was nowhere near the dresser. He’d aimed to just wait until the human crashed into bed, and he could just avoid the room until he left. He could still do that, but now Oscar had the knowledge that two poor souls were captured by that human.

From the sounds of things, they were trained. They’d needed permission to get out of the duffel bag. That they were carried around in a bag like that in the first place put a sick feeling in Oscar’s stomach. What if they’d been jostled around? What if they fell out? Would the human care?

He definitely needed them all to go to sleep so he could get out of here before he joined those poor captives.

Garlic and Cold Spots arrives 2/9/17 at 9pm!

January 11th excerpt:

Mark cried out in alarm as the hook sank its tooth in inches from where he was crouched. A second later, he felt the air shift behind him, and he whirled around to find the human peering at him through the gap in the chair.
