Brothers Apart

(Story 1 of the Brothers Apart series)

Sam was hit with a witch’s curse when he was 10 and Dean was 14. Unable to find him or his attacker anywhere when the dust settled, John and Dean Winchester were eventually forced to give him up for dead. Unbeknownst to them, Sam was saved from the witch and adopted into a new family, and they’ve trained him to take care of himself as best he can in the world, and protected him from the witch’s gaze all these years. And someone very familiar will be staying at the motel he lives in, all unknowing. This sets off a chain of events that changes Sam’s life forever.

April 14th except:

“We’ll get out of this, Sammy,” Dean promised. He spared a glance for the crack in the pocket where John’s hand entered, the long arm stretching out of sight as the man walked along. “Whatever it takes, you will not end up in another cage.”

April 12th excerpt:

“Where’d ya find that?” Sam asked, lazily brushing a hand through his ever-lengthening hair, though John usually prevailed upon him to trim it down when it started to get in his eyes. He put off cutting it a little longer each time.

Dean shrugged. “It was right in your bag,” he said, pointing at the backpack slumped down next to the nightstand.

Sam bit his lips. “I thought I lost it weeks ago,” he admitted.

“I just… knew it was there,” Dean said, uncertain now. “I needed it.”

Predator Instinct by Wildstar_Wildheart

This is the entry for the Brothers Apart contest under the AU of Brothers Adopted. The background of the Brothers Adopted story is that Sam and Jacob were cursed by a witch and left behind on accident. 14 years after the curse Dean comes back and finds the brothers. They leave the hotel the tiny brothers were trapped in and, I forget what happened next, but this takes place after Sam and Jacob were found. So, enjoy the show!

TTOL: The Trials of Logan

A+ guess on the name! You got it on the first try.

No one needs trials like this more than our favorite little punching bag, Logan Guthrie, antagonist of Bowman of Wellwood. An all-around unpleasant man.

Bobby looked away from Dean and Logan, turning a blind eye to whatever they did. “Want some help getting that blood out?” he offered Sam, sizing up the splotch and the dark spot around it from Rumsfeld’s saliva.

Sam glanced at it. “Sure. I’m kind of running low on jackets, anyway. We don’t exactly have a supply of them…”

“I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve,” Bobby assured the kid as he held out his hand. Once Sam was with him, they left the kitchen with Rumsfeld close behind, leaving the other pair to their own devices.

Dean stared at the jar in his hand with an assessing gaze, looking over the man inside. From their last encounter, time had not been kind on Logan. His clothing was showing wear and his hair was a mess. A trip to the barber wouldn’t be out of the question, either.

By contrast, even directly after a hunt, Dean’s hair was spiked and his jacket in pristine condition. His jeans were ripped by his thigh, and his boots had some dirt caked to the bottom. Despite a few frays, it was a far cry from Logan’s tattered appearance.

“I think we can do better than that,” Dean said dryly, flipping the jar upside down.

What are some Brothers Discovered Headcannons for Sam and Sherlock?

Well, since they won’t be meeting Sherlock until they’re older, we’re going to have to take a trip into the future for this one! (John didn’t meet Sherlock until after he returns from war)

@nightmares06

After growing up with humans, Sam’s a lot harder to intimidate in BD compared to in BC, so if he finds Sherlock staring at him with an intent look, he’s more likely to stare right back at him. He’s long grown used to his knack going off around his friends.

@borrowedtimeandspace

And since Sam isn’t as intimidated by Sherlock in BD as he is in BC, if Sam finds himself with nothing to do he might just go and see what Sherlock’s up to if he’s around. I can see him climbing right up Sherlock from the floor, trapping the detective in place while the lil guy is on him. Bug him to see what he’s looking at in his microscope.

Role Reversal by goldacharmed

Contest entry for Brothers Apart, by @nightmares06. After defeating a spirit Sam and Dean wake up to find that their roles have been reversed. Sam has to learn to be the “giant” while Dean will have no choice but to learn exactly how Sam sees’s the world while being “borrower” sized. Together they will learn more about each other than they ever expected.

Wait how can Jacob lift 40x his body weight when he is only around 1/20 th of his original weight/height? Please check my math but wouldn’t this mean he would be able to lift a human easily?

Actually, only his height is a 20th of his original size. Thanks to the square-cube law, his weight is much, much less.

@torchmlp was nice enough to do the math out for us, and they were curious about cursed Jacob’s strength compared to his weight, so they did the formulas out.

We know now that Jacob weighs about as much as three crayons, and 40x his weight is equal to the vase he was lifting. Dean, of course, can lift this vase in one hand and trap Jacob in a fist without the kid’s knack doing him a bit of good.

If we took cursed Sam, cursed Dean and cursed Jacob, the difference in their strength would be that together, Sam and Dean at a regular height would be able to pick up the Impala and walk away with it, while Jacob by himself could do the same with even less effort. Just one kid. Walking away with that car (put it back!).
