For the AU, they won’t meet. (At least… they won’t meet yet. There’s always the possibility it will happen in the future.)

But, the good news is you will get to see Oscar and Jacob encounter each other at least once in our AUs, maybe even more than once!

“Okay. You’re okay, I promise,” Jacob continued. He slipped a hand under the guy’s other shoulder and helped him sit up. The little guy let him, but when he looked up and caught a glimpse of Dean again he started to quake. Jacob, acting on impulse, pulled him into a hug so he couldn’t see Dean’s huge face looking down on him. Not until he calmed down. The tactic seemed to help, because the smaller person didn’t try to squirm out of the protective hug.

“H-he’s … he’s so … he’s a human … he’s a human,” the smaller man breathed, talking through his shock.

“Sure is,” Jacob answered. “And he’s not gonna hurt anybody, we all just got a little high strung this morning, that’s all. Everything’s fine, honest.”

Oscar shuddered and worked his hands up to his face. He scrubbed at his eyes, a task made tricky the way his arms were shaking. When he looked up again, he leaned a little to peek timidly around Jacob. Awe and trepidation in his eyes met growing concern. He broke eye contact quickly, unable to hold a lengthy stare with such an intense, giant face.

“I-I didn’t mean to,” he mumbled out. “I was just looking around.” He sat back and Jacob let him, though one of his hands hovered near Oscar’s shoulder for a beat longer before lowering away. Oscar brushed away any lingering tears waiting on his eyes with the heel of his hand. So long as he avoided looking up at Dean’s face, he could try to pick up the pieces of his shattered nerves.

Portability is definitely not why I write on this scale.

First things first, the main reason you see Sam standing at 4 inches tall is because the majority of my stories are either Brothers Apart, or AUs based on Brothers Apart. The scale is not going to change between them.

Second, I do have other stories that work with different scales. Reversal of Fate and An Ounce Of Courage both use the scale where Sam/Dean stand at 3 inches tall. This scale was discarded for BA because if he’s in it for the long haul, he’s going to need to do things for himself. He is not dependent on Dean in any way as some people seem to assume. Sam survived most of his life without his family around and could easily survive without them. He stays with Dean for reasons all his own.

–Sidenote here: In the horror story, Jacob is reduced down to barely an inch and a half tall and we’ll see exactly why that’s not a good thing. It’s a horror story for a reason.

I also won’t work with the Swift scale (Found in Gulliver’s Travels and The Borrowers). Since I write for enjoyment and I don’t enjoy writing my characters at 6 inches tall, you won’t find that here.

Lastly, the scales I and @neonthewrite use are not 4 inches = 6 feet.

Sam stands 4 inches tall, but his actual height is 6′4″. This gives us a ratio of about 1/19. If we put him and Bowman next to each other, they’re both 4 inches tall. Same scale, right?

Wrong! Bowman is actually the equivalent of 6′2″ in height. So he’s tall, but not quite at Sam’s height. He’s going to be disgruntled if they ever stand at the same scale and he comes to discover this human he can look straight in the eye is actually taller than him. Bowman’s ratio is about 1/18.5.

Aww, that would be so cute ^-^. They could have swimming lessons for Sam and Oscar since the tub is the size of a pond. Dean would have to watch those two closely, they are very smol kiddos.

Oscar would probably only be convinced to try if they gave him something to float on like that rubber duck. Poor little guy would fit down the drain, and since he’s generally so nervous, they’d need to sweeten the deal. And then he might just stay on his ducky the whole time. XD

March 25th excerpt:

Bowman looked over at Sam and pointed at the flesh-colored material stuck to Jacob’s hand. “What is that thing he’s got? I’ve never seen bandaging like that.”

“It’s a band-aid,” Sam explained patiently. He was used to Bowman’s curious questions. The sprite wanted to know everything he could, and the humans were a tempting store of knowledge. “It seals to his skin, see? That way, the cut won’t get infected. Remember we talked about human medicine? Humans don’t have healers like the sprites do. We gotta make do with what we can.”

After a split second of hesitation, Bowman opened up his wings and flapped them once to get into the air. Jacob froze as the little guy glided right over to his hand, hovering near it for a closer look at the band-aid. He even reached out to brush across the strange, almost alien material.

March 24th excerpt:

“IPod?” Sam repeated in confusion, latching onto the alien word. “Is it like a cassette player? Or some kind of stereo? Can you carry it with you?” He paused for a second, confusion shining in his eyes.

“Ah,” Jacob said simply, trying to catch up with Sam’s frame of reference. Hearing him ask about a cassette player while standing there at all of four inches tall was a little jarring, but it gave Jacob a slightly better idea. “Yeah, it’s a portable music player,” he explained. “I have something kinda like it.”

March 23rd excerpt:

“Jacob, you can’t just keep us under the bucket,” Sam called out, his voice loud enough to escape the bucket. “You’re going to have to let us out eventually.”

Jacob sat back and ran a hand through his hair absently. He stared down at the bucket and contemplated Sam’s words. “Yeah, I … holy shit,” he answered distractedly, unsure of what he could even say to them. He’d just trapped them without even thinking about it.

March 10th excerpt:

Sam’s mouth turned dry, and he shot a look at Dean. Give it a shot? he mouthed at his brother, having heard nothing of this from anyone. He rubbed the back of his neck in a distracted gesture, trying to brush away the warning tingle of humans watching them.

Dean was almost glowing with hope. He nodded eagerly. “It’s a cleansing spell,” he said in a hushed voice. “Maybe it can cleanse the curse just like the hex. It can’t hurt, right?”

March 9th excerpt:

With a hand brushing against the wallpaper, Dean lead the way behind the display case. The tingle on Sam’s neck flattened to nothing the moment he was out of sight of their friends, and his shoulders relaxed. Then…

Wait. What the hell?

He was still being watched.

It was faint and fleeting compared to the heavy touch of Jacob’s attention, but it was there.

“Dean,” Sam hissed, “we’re being watched.”

Those two may appear in a future story. The trickster is always fun to have around, and Castiel is one of my favorite characters.

As for what can break the curse… or if it can be broken, you’ll just have to wait and see!

What a winning pair of angelic brothers…

March 7th excerpt:

He reached over them to experimentally nudge a book back to its upright position, and pushed it back a little farther. “Wow. With this setup no one would even know you guys were in there,” he noted appreciatively.

Dean slapped the hand that was encroaching in on their space. “And it’s gonna stay that way,” he said pointedly. “Now quit it! If you keep pushing the books back Sam will take over the entire place while he sleeps.”
