May 18th excerpt:

“Anything’s possible,” Dean argued stubbornly back as they started on their way towards the boxes, aiming at a crack between them to start searching. He glanced behind at Jacob and made a shooing motion. “Who’d expect people like us to be hanging out with a hunter?”

“We’re the ones who helped him become a hunter,” Sam said in exasperation.

Exactly! That’s my point! ”

Jacob watched them walk away for a second more, struck by the fact that he’d just been shoo’d with a hand so small he could barely see it from where he knelt.

For this prompt, I enlisted the help of @nightmares06 for the role of Castiel. I’m not very good at writing characters that I didn’t create, but this prompt was so cute that I couldn’t just dismiss it out of hand.

Out here, among the trees and flowers and the wind, all on her own, Rischa thought she might have a better understanding for why Bowman couldn’t stop flying. He didn’t practice his Prayers very much, but flying filled him with the same feeling, Rischa just knew it.

The girl wove her way among the flowers, picking up petals or leaves here and there to brush a hand along the soft foliage. The sweet scent attracted bees and butterflies above, and Rischa watched the insects drift from flower to flower. They were happy for the nice day, too.

Her shoes pressed lightly in the moss as she wended her way through the flowerbed, and eventually Rischa began to hum again. Her singing voice was strong like her mother’s, clear like a bell and living up to the Songbird name.

A directionless tune floated past her lips and Rischa danced softly among the flowers, letting her connection to the Lady of Life open like she was welcoming a friend. In truth, she was. Her braids, intertwined with supple green blades of grass, flew in the air with every turn as she frolicked.

Hmm, well Sonny would probably figure Dean out pretty fast and be shocked to find Sammy. They’d both work together to make sure Sam keeps out of trouble and out of the way of the other boys, and Sam would accompany Dean to school just like in BT.

Sonny’s farm in canon happens about a month after Sam’s curse hits, so at this point they’re actually discovering Oscar. Since there’s only one kid to support, money goes further and Dean didn’t have to steal bread for food.

Masterpost of Brothers Lost

The Road Not Taken

Saving people. Hunting things.

It was what they were supposed to do. Who they were supposed to be. Instead, that life was stolen from them by a witch and a curse in childhood, stripped away and replaced by one goal:

Survival.

A Ghost from the Past (11 x 17)

A familiar face comes to visit Sam when he’s lying on Death’s door, only he’s looking a little… shorter than normal.

May 17th excerpt:

With one hand locked onto the edge of the pocket, Sam pushed up on the flap. Between the brothers, he would be able to know if anyone was about to look at him. Over time, the ability was growing stronger and the longer he spent around friendly humans, the more he realized it actually differed, depending on the human and the circumstances.

If a person glanced in his general direction, it felt like nothing more than an absent chill across his neck. Goosebumps and the hairs raised, Sam used to brush off the sensation before he knew what it was telling him. Direct eye contact from a friendly humans like Jacob sharpened the impression, putting weight on his neck.

Neutral humans, or people who could be classed as purposely dangerous, gave him a feeling of burning. It hurt, it sent pain down his nerves just like a hot brand pressed against his skin, and it took time to wear off.

The sun neared its zenith when Rischa managed to excuse herself from lessons. While she stretched her wings luxuriously on the wide balcony of the cottonwood tree, with bars of sunlight bathing the village in light in front of her, Rischa got a notion in her head. She knew without a doubt that if Bowman were there, he’d have the same feeling about the day.

It was a good day for flying.

Bowman was probably already doing exactly that somewhere out in the woods. Rischa stepped over the side of the balcony, her dainty wings spreading wide to carry her on the breeze. She decided she would explore, too, like Bowman did.

She was twelve, now, after all. Rischa might not fly much farther than the usual patrol distance most of the time, but her cousin knew the woods better than anyone. He hadn’t mentioned any dangers nearby.

After many days spent honing her gifts in the cottonwood with the ever wise and patient Cerul, everything blended together. Rischa drifted past the pine tree where she lived with her mama and daddy and Bowman, crossing over the stream and out into the woods. She hummed to herself as she banked upwards, cutting through sunbeams here and there as she set her sights on exploring.

Bowman does this all the time and he’s always happy when he returns, she thought. Time to see what the fuss is about.

There are actually a few different methods, and all of these methods can be used by anyone if they forget their toothbrush on a camping trip.

First, he can take a cloth and wrap it around his finger. This makes a ‘brush’ than he can then use, after stealing some toothpaste from Dean. Of course, this cloth needs to be washed daily, and he will make good use of his cup of water.

Another method if he can use if he doesn’t have any toothpaste at all or any other supplies, he can scrape his teeth with his finger. Rinse well!

If out in the woods, like when they’re on their way to Wellwood, is a green twig. The fibers of the twig, after chewing on it for a bit, are gentle and great for scraping. This method can be seen on shows like Survivor.

References (Brothers Lost!)

Since I started getting commissions of my stories, I’ve been slowly compiling a bunch of references to use for these commissions. This new post will cover Sam and Dean both from Brothers Lost:

image

Before the curse, Dean made Sam a knife for protection. What he rarely mentions in Brothers Apart, at least up until he starts carrying the knife with him in The Schism of Fire and Water, is that he made a knife for himself. So both brothers in Brothers Lost are ready to fight to defend themselves, and they mean business. Don’t let their size deceive you.

Climbing is an essential skill for survival for both of these brothers, and they took advantage of Dean’s budding ability to search out what he needs to find these two. Sam’s was in an obvious area of the room (for them), dropped right in the closet. Dean found his own single prong hook mixed in with miscellaneous trash the fisherman left behind in his room. Without Dean’s knack, they would have overlooked the little silver glint in their hurry to leave when a maid arrived.

Walt made each brother their own bag out of leather. While Sam accepted the bag he was given without issue, Walt ended up making Dean a duffel bag just like he’d had as a kid, before the curse.

May 16th excerpt:

Jacob got into the huge, shining black 1967 Impala parked at the curb, settling onto the bench seat with a sigh. The key was in the ignition before he glanced down at his pocket with a grin. “Back on the road again,” he announced, before turning the key with a roar of the engine.

The flap of the pocket shifted, and Sam was the first one out. Normally, the brothers would already be on Jacob’s shoulder, or hiding in a hoodie to keep out of sight from Mariana. There was no way to know her reaction to finding out that tiny people were real, and with Mike being a cop, the brothers chose to avoid any situations that might result in discovery. He seemed like a nice enough man, but if the police discovered littles, people everywhere could be put in danger.

“Shotgun!” Sam shouted, off like a shot. Dean was left behind in the dust, and Sam used the thick threads of Jacob’s shirt to climb his way over to the right shoulder.

Dean hauled himself up, nowhere near as fast. “Dammit,” he huffed. “That’s my spot.”
