A guess for Stan’s knack

myimaginedairybeard asked:

Is the other character with the emotional manipulation knack Stan Baker? Please tell me that I’m wrong, cuz if not I swear that this is some kind of sick joke. All this time brainwashed as a pet… Did his knack backfire on him? Like, does he believe it so much that he subconsciously manipulates himself? Does that even make sense??

@borrowedtimeandspace

We are pleased to announce that you are indeed wrong!

In Brothers Chosen, borrower Stan was manipulated and abused, but not by his own knack. That would be an extremely sad way for him to get stuck thinking that way, but the good news is a person with emotional manipulation probably wouldn’t be able to manipulate themselves in the way you described.

@nightmares06

Stan’s knack is not emotional manipulation, but it is a form of manipulation. So you have half of the answer for this one!

When it comes to knacks that allow borrowers to manipulate others, they rarely work on other borrowers or themselves. Though a few of the borrowers with emotional manipulation are able to affect their own kind, the angel Grace that’s in them gives them a stronger resistance to it compared to humans.

A knack for protection

Anonymous asked:

What about a fragile forcefield?

A shield like that is not only possible, but it’s the eventual ability of one of the characters in the stories. They’re able to make a ‘bubble’ of protection around themselves and sometimes their friends. It’s considered one of the stronger abilities, because of the way it can hold off a human.

Future knack growth

thepoisonlily asked:

Can Sam’s Enhanced Awareness become more powerful to the point where it is more than just knowing when someone is looking at him?

Actually, all knacks will grow stronger as the borrower ages!

With Sam’s knack as an example, he starts out just knowing that someone is glancing in his direction. It’s a very vague sensation.

As he grows up and the strength of his knack increases with exposure to humans, he starts to be able to differentiate between danger and safety. It’ll start to inform him the direction the danger comes from. Once it’s strong enough, he could pinpoint a sniper aiming a weapon his way and sense when the attack is coming.

Side effects of Celeste’s curse

anonymous asked:

What happens to people who are on medication when they are cursed?

Well, it depends on what they’re on medication for!

Celeste is, despite her current disguise, an archangel. Her grace has healing powers much stronger than what Castiel shows in Supernatural. The last thing she wants is any of her little experiments to get sick and die.

The curse sends a victim into a coma for a week because their body has to adjust to its new size. Part of that is any illnesses they had will be cured. This doesn’t extend to any disabilities. Anyone that’s blind or deaf will remain blind or deaf. Mental health issues are not affected by the curse either. Infections can be deadly at that size as well.

However, sicknesses as deadly as cancer and asthma will be healed. Borrowers live naturally long and robust lives (barring any accidents), and they very rarely get sick because of the Grace inside of them. It keeps away illnesses.

Hope this answers your question!

Enhanced speed knack

anonymous asked:

Would Mark’s knack also grant him enhanced speed? Is enhanced speed its own knack?

Mark’s knack does not give him enhanced speed. More like enhanced agility. The strength in his legs allows him to push off harder and lengthen his strides significantly compared to most borrowers, but he’s still running normally. It’s less about speed and more about distance, if that makes sense.

Enhanced speed is indeed its own thing entirely…

It won’t be BORING, that’s for sure!

The smol doc

anonymous asked:

I was looking at varaciouspanda’s art in deviantart and i noticed you commissioned them to have a big ol dean being checked by a small john Watson. You ever going to do anything with that?

You bet we will be! (Though it’s Sam and not Dean in the pic)

We commissioned this picture of big Sam and tiny John Watson doctoring him, and there are plans in the works for a future story with these two (and of course some others).

Once @borrowedtimeandspace escapes from school, we have many plans we’ve been cooking up that we hope to get to, and I just had to commission voraciouspanda / @justanothergiant when they opened up commissions, they’re perfect at this style scene!

For anyone that hasn’t seen the art–

Sam’s looking pretty sick, and John’s gotta doc!

Emotional Manipulation

anonymous asked:

So there are borrowers who can read others’ emotions, but could a borrower potentially exert their own influence on others’ feelings? Like, say a borrower encounters a disgruntled bean—they’d be able to take the edge off of their anger with a knack? 🙂

Absolutely!

This style knack is not only possible, we have a few characters that will show up with it!

If Chase is ever one of the cursed children, this would be his knack!

Emotional manipulation: The ability to influence the emotions around him, with no need for physical contact. A way for Chase to keep the peace among whichever group he’s in, or, if he can manage to get close enough, make a human tired or inattentive enough to escape notice.

Another character, who remains unrevealed as he has not appeared in any posted stories and no one has guessed his knack, will have a similar ability, weaker in some ways and stronger in others. While Chase can manipulate from a distance, this person needs physical contact, but they are also strong enough, if they focus, to also affect borrowers. It’s very rare that borrowers can affect each other, because the angel Grace in them also gives them a buffer against outside manipulation.

Since I had left Chase, Minnie and Bobby Loran off of the knack masterpost, I have since added them and their knacks to it!

“knack” anon again. What about sound mimicry and/or throwing your voice?

Luminous Arc asked:

Is Remote Sound Emission a possible knack given your universe? Like being able to generate a sound at a given nearby location away from yourself, basically an auditory mental projection?

Both of these abilities are perfectly possible! They would be two separate possible knacks though, one borrower couldn’t have both.

Throwing your voice would be a great ability, especially if it was refined enough to make it sound like you were well away from your current location, or even directly in someone’s ear to make them jump.

Some borrowers, like Dean, can manage this without any specific knack, but as a knack it would certainly be much stronger and more useful. Dean only really uses it to mess with his own tols and startle sprites. For life and death situations, he generally goes with other tricks that are more reliable.

Sound mimicry is a great ability to have, giving a borrower the ability to ‘borrow’ someone else’s voice. They could use this to call to a human in their mother/father’s voice, getting them out of the kitchen or living room, and possibly saving the borrower from discovery.

These style knacks may appear in the future! We have spitballed ideas like this for guest characters, along with many other possible knacks.

I’m kinda curious, what would happen if Dean met Bowman before he was reunited with Sam? Would he shoot first and ask questions later? Or would he still realize that Bowman is a person and attempt to be gentle?

Dean often does shoot first, ask questions later. In this situation, though, Bowman’s a small enough threat that if Dean finds him, he’ll probably just grab the small and bitchy green leafy thing to find out what it is, and they’d end up sassing back and forth for ten years before getting anywhere useful (without Sam or Jacob, there is no one to break the circle of doom those two can get stuck in).

Dean might be a hunter, but he prefers to think through a case when it doesn’t make sense, and considering the worst this leafy green guy did was bite him, it doesn’t look as though he’s out here, slinging magic and turning wolves against campers. They’d have a very awkward relationship, but they might manage it!

Bowman would definitely make things interesting for him. The little guy hides his fears with yet more snark, so it wouldn’t be immediately obvious that he’s freaked out by this human wandering around with guns and huge blasted knives, grabbing the fastest sprite in Wellwood out of the air. Dean would get quite a tirade of sprite swears shouted at him, in between Bowman trying to kick him and bite him.

As soon as he gets out of the jar, he swears he’s gonna bop that giant into submission.

Would the ability to phase through solid objects work as a knack? It would certainly make getting into the walls easier.

It would for sure!

You’ve stumbled on a knack that a future character in the series will have (though they are not yet in any posted stories). However, it’s not as strong as they’d like.

An ability like phasing is one of the stronger abilities that a borrower could have, and it has severe limitations. The borrower can’t just phase through a solid wall without consequences. Especially starting out, they’re not going to be able to handle more than a thin sheet of paper.

Training the knack might help them be able to handle a little more, but there’s always a limit. Paper is the easiest, fabric is a little harder (and it depends on how many layers of fabric there are), wood is possible, but they’re starting to reach limits of what they can handle especially with hardwoods. Placing metal around an object is a good way to keep this kind of borrower out, as they can’t just pass through it.

So, it’s a knack that exists, but the borrower would be walking a fine line with their ability and how far they can stretch it to get in and out of places.
