Logan Guthrie, the villain of Bowman Leafwing’s canon story, does seem to find himself in Wellwood quite often when I muse about different stories set there. With Sam growing up in Wellwood, his chances of encountering the man got much greater than in any other au, that’s for certain.

If it does happen, I think a Prayer to the Spirit wouldn’t go amiss. Sam will have to show what he’s made of to protect his home and his family!

November 17th excerpt:

The bar was quiet in the early hours of the evening. A few scattered tables held patrons, from the worn and weary older men that hunched over their drinks like they were birds protecting their young to a baby-faced kid getting carded at the bar, it was a familiar scene for Dean as he swaggered confidently over the threshold. His cocky attitude fit his leather jacket, and his hard green eyes made it easy to blend right in.

Once, a lifetime ago, this would have felt like home. Before that fateful day.

Before Sam.

For all houses, you’ll actually find that there is a lot of space that you can’t see into!

For instance, we need a place for the pipes for the plumbing to go through, and the electrical wires that run through for the lights/light switches and electrical outlets. These can’t exist in a vacuum. Also, buildings will have space under the floors, as well. No matter how sturdy a house is built, you’ll find that mice and other rodents will always find a place to live, and this is the kind of space that the small folk use for their homes.

If there ever was a solidly built house, you wouldn’t find small folk living there, but that is definitely an out-of-the-norm situation.

Character Profile: Sam Winchester

image

Name: Sam Winchester

Age: ~22 depending on AU

Height: 6′4″ || 4″

Species: Human

Eye Color: Hazel

Hair Color: Brown

Gender: Male

Known Abilities: Sam has always loved school and reading, and it comes out in his uncanny ability for research. He can track down information on monsters and cases that anyone else would overlook. Though he’s been separated from technology for over a decade, he’s able to pick up skills with the laptop and the cell phone that rival Dean’s own, and because of this has a tendency to change Dean’s settings without warning, occasionally pissing off his older and larger brother.

Sam is a natural at climbing, and has no problem flaunting it compared to Dean’s paltry skills when they stand on the same scale. His strength outstrips his older brother, and though Dean is more skilled with self-defense, if Sam gets his hands on Dean, there’s no escaping him. There’s a reason he’s the only ‘little’ that uses a hook with three prongs, one of the heaviest climbing implements around. Topping all this off, Sam is more than able to handle a rat on his own– a rat the size of a grizzly bear.

Background: After losing his mother in a housefire, Sam’s father John took both his children on the road. Sam always wanted to stay in one place, go to a school, make some friends, be normal for a bit, but for a Winchester, that’s not meant to be.

He’s forced to accept his fate one night at Trails West, after which both brothers’ lives will never be the same.

Knack: The ability to know when he’s sought.

November 16th excerpt:

The group was silent as they climbed down from the nightstand one after the other. Sam’s hook was the one that was lodged into the top, the sturdiest hook in the motel. Dean had once suggested replacing it now that Sam had access to more supplies than he could ever dream of back when he’d lived at Trails West, but nothing they found could equal the three prongs. It was sturdy, it was versatile, and it was lightweight enough for Sam to haul it around day in and day out, dangling from his satchel. If he was to come up against an enemy one-on-one with nothing more than his hook on hand, he would be a force to be reckoned with. That hook was nasty.

Sam was the only one able to wield it so easily. Lightweight to him was hefty to Walt, and tossing it up several feet in the air took effort. All in all, the perfect tool for Sam Winchester.

I’m so glad you like her!

She came up when we were originally spitballing ideas for BC, the young daughter of Sam and Dean’s adopted family. In the actual story, she’s 18 years old, and 3.3 inches tall (the equivalent of 5′3″ for our style borrower/little).

Even next to her older brothers, she’s very petite! But don’t let her innocent looks deceive you– She grew up with those two older brothers, and is more of a tomboy than she looks. She is ready to fight!

Moira pushed the block of wood out of her way. “Dean! Sam!” she said, glancing around the dark interior of their home. It was more spartan than her room. No decorative wall hangings covered the smooth wood interior, and they’d put down no rugs. The only dash of color came from Sam’s papers hanging on the walls, and with a grin, Moira took one down.

“What’s this, Sam?” she called out gamely, reading an entry that was scratched out in aggravation. “Dean, dumping water over your head again? ” She shook her head. “He never gives up.”

With the continued absence of a reply, she began to wonder if they were even close by. Perhaps they were around the flat, spying on the humans or getting food. Eager to track them down, she replaced the paper on the walls.

“You should come out,” she sang happily as she hitched up her satchel and pulled the block back in place in front of their home to set out and search. “Mother packed some treats! I know Dean wouldn’t want me to eat all his cake…”

Aside from when the excerpts tie into the AU guessing game, we don’t announce which AU they’re from! It’s obvious with a few– Dean’s only small in BC and BL, and clearly if Sherlock or John’s around, it must be BC, and with the rest, you’ll have to figure it out when the poll comes up!

This way, we keep the poll as randomized as possible to avoid one AU dominating, and still have some fun.

November 15th excerpt:

Before Dean had a chance to stride forward and close the distance to the nightstand, the flap on his chest pocket moved, and then Sam poked his head out. If they didn’t know he was there, he would be mistaken for an errant fold in the fabric. Even spotting his head and shoulders peeking over the edge did nothing to ruin that impression.

Sam waved at the others as Dean turned in place and walked over. Neither brother seemed to find it particularly odd to both be doing something completely different, but Walt knew that was just who they were. They worked together seamlessly as a team, no matter how disparate their sizes were.

Better together than apart.

Aww, you’re very sweet!

I have to decline any offers from people I don’t know too well, because of a bad experience with our former beta reader. We had a rough falling out after some disagreements over editing A Lich of Sense and the story after.

Needless to say, after having my story messed with I have a few trust issues.

What we look for in beta reader:

  1. People we’re familiar with and are willing to trust with our documents (friends, fellow writers, ect…)
  2. Knowledgeable about writing and grammar, preferably someone who writes themselves so we can see for ourselves

You’ll notice that a lot of the people who beta for us are also our cowriters. @neonthebright and @creatorofuniverses have their wonderful Trust universe ( @alittleblogoftrust ), @kimstaticchild wrote Myth meets Myth with @neonthebright, and has a story in progress with myself.

I’m always open for IM’s ( @nightmares06 ), so feel free to send me a message if you’re up to talking about some spn or gt or Sherlock! (I do not ship anything, of course, so any chats about that will go nowhere)
