A World of Secrets!

After being attacked, Sam wakes up in a dark place, surrounded by strangers. He escapes them only to find that his life won’t be going back to normal any time soon…

This marks the beginning of a new AU, Brothers Unexpected! Where Sam is separated from Dean, but not from humanity, despite his new curse.

Sneak peek:

The blue-eyed man brushed Sam’s messy hair back. “My name’s Walt, and this is Mallory,” he introduced, his voice remaining level. “A few days ago, you and your brother got attacked. Do you remember that?”

Sam nodded mutely.

“That lady… the w-itch…” Walt was uncertain as he enunciated the word as though he’d never said it before. “She hit you with something. Some… spell. After it was cast, your brother couldn’t see you.”

Walt swallowed thickly. “We got you out before you got hurt more… but Sam… your family. They’re gone. The witch ran and they chased her.”

Sam’s eyes started to spill over. “N…no,” he mumbled. “Dean wouldn’t leave me. They wouldn’t abandon me!” By the end, he was shouting, his thin voice going up an octave in his panic. The memories in his mind clamored for attention. They overlapped and caused his breath to hitch.

Both Walt and Mallory flinched at the sound of his shout, eyes nervously flashing to their ceiling. Mallory put a delicate hand on Sam’s shoulder. “Sam, they never wanted to,” she said in her lyrical voice. “They thought the witch killed you and just wanted to…” She trailed off, her eyebrows furrowing uncertainly.

“She cursed you, Sam,” Walt cut in gruffly. “Everyone you knew is a giant. That’s why they didn’t see you and that’s why we had to get you out of there. They’re dangerous.”

A silence stretched out between them. Sam’s hand started to shake, more of the cup crumpling inwards as a tear slid down his cheek. “G-giants?” he asked timidly.

Something in his mind clicked before Walt could get out another word. “No! ” Sam stated firmly. “Dean’s not… Dean would never…” His words jumbled and he started to hyperventilate.

Sam shoved the covers off. His water splashed out of the deformed cup. Droplets of water spilled onto the wooden flooring.

Hot. He was too hot.

The world was too cold but he was too hot.

Walt just barely managed to catch the metal cup as it fell, but it was too late.

Sam stumbled out of the bed… nest… fabric. He almost fell over to dodge a well-meaning grab from Mallory, her face covered with sympathy. Sam squirmed between the two people that had saved his life, his desperation giving him energy to escape.

He needed to go. Dean was out there, he had to be.

Sam just had to find him.

Shoving the fabric draped over the doorframe, Sam ignored the cries of alarm that came from his former room. His eyes darted around the new room, and he quailed at the sight of a penny casually kicked against the side of the wall.

It was large enough to serve as a dinner plate.

No, they’re making it up. They’re lying, they have to be!

As soon as he saw another doorframe, Sam ran for it. He had to get out before they grabbed him and put him back in bed. There might not be another chance for escape. Dean always told him to watch out for himself. A hand brushed reflexively against the knife tucked away in his soft tan jacket and Sam prayed he never had to use it.

There was a block in front of the door. It was heavy, but Sam shoved it to the side. The adrenaline filling him made his hands shaky, but it gave him energy he could draw on. He needed to get away, he needed to escape.

A dark passageway arched overhead. The panic that Sam was drowning in refused to let him really see it. He couldn’t make out the cobwebs that lurked in the unreachable corners. The nails in the wooden walls were bigger than his hand but his eyes just brushed over them. He needed to run.

And so he ran.

Wind whipped Sam’s hair into a frenzy. In the distance, the sound of boots came. He was being followed. Panic lent speed to his strides, and Sam pushed himself like he’d never pushed himself before. It was a race. He needed to find a way out of this dark world before that Walt could catch him. It was as simple as that.

Sam’s eyes flashed from side to side as he searched for a way out. The dark walls were dusty, but footprints could be made out in the thick dust. Sam set himself to following them, driven by desperation. He was only ten, and his legs weren’t as long as Walt’s. If it took him too long to find help, he’d lose the race.

“Sam! Wait up, please! You don’t understand!”

Sam pushed the voice out of his mind and ran even faster, if that was possible. A wood splinter jutted out, nearly tripping the young kid up, but he only stumbled, scraping one hand against the ground. The skin was raw and red as he forced himself to run again.

He spotted a light in the distance, and a tiny bubble of hope filled his chest.

A way out.

There was another shout, but Sam didn’t even hear it this time. The wall gave way to an opening where the light was, and Sam felt triumph fill his chest as it turned out to be warm motel room light. He was safe. He could just walk out the door and go search for…

Any thought he had in mind trailed off as Sam skid to a halt.

Something was more than wrong. The room was distorted, the beds and walls arching up over his head by what seemed like miles. He’d run right past the gigantic nightstand, thinking it was just another hallway, leaving him exposed in the center of the floor.

Sam froze, his entire body filling with fear as he realized that Walt may have been telling him the truth.

Djinn dreams

anonymous asked:

If the brothers got stuck in a djinn dream, what would their dreams be? Would it be different in the particular AUs?

It would certainly depend on the AU in question.

In Brothers Apart, Sam’s biggest issue is the fact that he blames himself for Mallory getting killed. Meanwhile, Dean wishes that Sam had never been cursed and definitely blames himself for not finding Sam before he was dragged from the room.

Every djinn dream would be different, and none of them would be perfect (djinn are so good at that). Like if Dean wished that he’d saved Sam in time, he might end up living in a different version AU… for instance, where he saves Sam at his own expense, or instead of leaving Sam behind, he’d see him and grab him.

Are stories like Brothers Saved and Brothers Together djinn dreams? Are we all in a djinn dream now?

Oh, hey. So I went back and looked in my old BA ideas, and apparently had a bit scripted out for Sam falling into a djinn dream, so have an old drabble!

It’s a bit short, but I like it.

“Dean!” Sam cries out, desperately running along the banister.

I have to reach him… have to help…

He almost doesn’t see the attack coming. A tattoo covered hand tries to sweep him from the railing and only misses when Sam dodges to the side at the last second. Another hand tries to snatch at him as Sam sees Dean rise up, using the distraction provided by his borrower-sized brother to grab the blood-soaked knife from where it fell during the struggle.

Even as Dean plunges his knife into the creature’s back, the fingers brush against Sam with an almost loving caress.

The world fades before he even realizes he’s falling.

Family Ties

(Story 2 of the Brothers Adopted series)

Cowritten by @nightmares06 and @neonthewrite

It’s been three years since Jacob Andris found himself cursed to live at barely a twentieth of his height, and his adopted brother Sam Winchester has finally decided it’s time for his first trip to the rooms without Walt Watch’s supervision. How will Jacob’s supply run go when it’s just him and Sam?

I’m guessing BFTP is basically Brothers Adopted, but with Dean tiny instead of Sam?

You got it!

Brothers Remembered has Sam and Dean separated in childhood, Dean barely managing to push his younger brother out of the way in time to avert the curse, but get caught in the blast himself. When, years later, another kid gets snapped up, what’s Dean to do but take him in and teach him to survive?

Since Dean is an adult when he finds Jacob, he takes him to his shelter and nurses him back to health, and helps the kid adjust when he wakes up. They occasionally talk to Walt and Mallory, but by and large Dean and Jacob are independent of the others.

Naturally, shenanigans happen when Sam stays overnight, suspecting none of this.

There was some keys tossed on the nightstand, and a shadow that passed by the vent, its owner out of sight. Dean’s eyes tracked the hulking shadow, enough to eclipse him and everyone he knew at the motel without a problem.

Then, the shadow’s owner came into view and Dean had to restrain himself from leaping back.

This human was big.

The guy might be the biggest person Dean had ever seen. Standing so tall that the vent was only a few scant feet above his head, his hair was longer and fluffed out at the sides, showing signs that he’d just gotten in and had no time to recover from his drive.

A classic road tripper, if a little young. Dean had an urge to cut that long, floppy hair that he couldn’t explain.

The human never noticed him up there, perched above the vent, but that was enough for Dean. He didn’t want to mess with a person that big, tired from driving or not. Whatever supplies this guy had, he could keep. Dean would run through the room after he checked out of the motel for good.

Hitching up his duffel, Dean turned toward home and left that room behind.

Will there be an AU where a full sized Dean gets to meet Mallory, like Brother’s Found or Brothers Adopted? I know Walt is pretty protective of her, so not sure how that would happen without meeting Walt too…

Is it sad that I can’t remember.

I know for sure that Dean will meet her when he’s tol, but which AU. When. How do we get there.

Honestly it might be in a completely unannounced AU. We will definitely get there though. In fact, Mallory will meet more than one character when they’re tol and not smol. Jacob Andris being the lucky one who’s already had his story written out with smol mom.

Walt and Sean

neonthewrite:

My entry for the 2018 Brothers Apart tumblr contest. I wanted to write something with @nightmares06‘s Walt Watch, since he’s one of my favorites and he recently had some huge character development in the latest story of the Brothers Apart AU. This is set sometime in the weeks/months after the first story, after Sam has left with Dean under the assumption that Walt didn’t survive the events of that story.

Hope you enjoy it! Reading time approx. 10 minutes.

Walt knew something was wrong before he had time to fully wake up. Something like a heavy weight settled over his heart and he sighed without opening his eyes. Life had thrown him too many strange new things in so many months. Sometimes he wondered if he would ever have some semblance of what he had before.

Before Mallory … before Bree … his family had been fragmented, time and time again. What had he done for fate to lay its hands on him like that not once, but twice? He didn’t even know what had become of Sam.

That boy … Walt had known what he was, and hadn’t cared. In his old life, he was as much a danger to Walt as any other human.

Seeing that little face, full of fear he tried to hide, had decided for him. He and Mallory had been no match for those plaintive hazel eyes, full of tears the boy didn’t want to release. Walt still remembered the mumbled excuses about chick-flick moments. He didn’t even know what that meant and he could tell Sam’s heart wasn’t in the words.

The boy had lost his family. Just like Walt and Mallory had lost their baby girl not a year before. They might not understand everything Sam lost, but they understood that. There was no turning him away.

And now he was gone. Mallory was gone. Walt was alone, if not for–

“Walt?” Krissy’s voice was cautious and quiet, but Walt had known the girl long enough to recognize something else in it. Worry. His pale blue eyes opened at last to take in the concerned shadows on her face.

You two are one letter off from the title, so you win a sneak peek for all! This story is titled Wayward Sons, and sometimes wayward sons have to return home to the family they left behind.

XD This is one of those titles that makes everyone facepalm and go “Of course!” if they’ve watched the show.

“Of course I know where we are!” Dean interrupted. “It hasn’t been that long since we were around…”

Up ahead, what looked like twelve feet away but must only be seven inches, there was an end to the path. Part of the wall shifted, then moved aside under the control of someone inside. A block was substituted for a door.

Dean, who was paying more attention to Sam behind him than the path in front in order to keep bickering, pulled to a halt when he heard someone clear their throat. Sam almost ran right into his brother, caught off guard by the suddenness of the gesture.

Blue eyes like steel stared out at them.

“Boys,” Walt Watch greeted, his arms crossed and his face stern.

While everyone was staring at each other in the shock that came from a long time spent apart, a small ball of energy pushed right past Walt. Mallory, her long blonde hair a mess and bouncing in loose curls behind her back, flew out from the small home. “Dean?! Sam!”

Walt didn’t have a chance to catch her before she barreled right into Dean with a sob, pulling the much taller man into a hug. There was no resisting her, and she did the same with Sam, small tears peeking out the corner of her eyes. “Oh, thank God,” she breathed as she pulled out of Sam’s arms to get a good look at both of them. “We thought you were dead or worse.”

“Never bett–”

Dean’s declaration was cut off with a loud slap that sounded like it could be heard from one end of the motel to the other. Shocked, Dean stumbled back, tenderly holding his cheek.

Mallory’s tears were overflowing. “How could you leave us like that?” she demanded tearfully.

It really depends on the littles in question! There’s no “they like it” or “they hate it” here.

Someone like Walt or Arthur would see it as unnecessary, a frivolous pursuit for humans who don’t have to spend their days trying to survive. On the flipside, Mallory would love to discover embroidery, and how to do it for herself. She could spruce up their home, add some more splashes of color to brighten the place up.

In Britain, with the closer knit society, they don’t need to focus solely on survival. Some of the borrowers over there spend most of their lives sewing, and if they want to add some flourish to the fabric, they can do so. They trade for what they need, resulting in more specialized skillsets over the pond.

It’s very difficult to say who would have what knack! We’ve straightened out a few of the rules for their knacks, but each persons is completely unique. Siblings normally have abilities that complement each other, just like Sam and Dean. With no sibling, Jacob’s is standalone. The closer the siblings, the more their abilities complement each other.

Mallory would likely have something that would help her see into the hearts of others, while Walt would at least *want* something to help his family. That’s a cute thought for Bree! Very Alice-in-Wonderlandish.
