May 17th excerpt:

With one hand locked onto the edge of the pocket, Sam pushed up on the flap. Between the brothers, he would be able to know if anyone was about to look at him. Over time, the ability was growing stronger and the longer he spent around friendly humans, the more he realized it actually differed, depending on the human and the circumstances.

If a person glanced in his general direction, it felt like nothing more than an absent chill across his neck. Goosebumps and the hairs raised, Sam used to brush off the sensation before he knew what it was telling him. Direct eye contact from a friendly humans like Jacob sharpened the impression, putting weight on his neck.

Neutral humans, or people who could be classed as purposely dangerous, gave him a feeling of burning. It hurt, it sent pain down his nerves just like a hot brand pressed against his skin, and it took time to wear off.

There are actually a few different methods, and all of these methods can be used by anyone if they forget their toothbrush on a camping trip.

First, he can take a cloth and wrap it around his finger. This makes a ‘brush’ than he can then use, after stealing some toothpaste from Dean. Of course, this cloth needs to be washed daily, and he will make good use of his cup of water.

Another method if he can use if he doesn’t have any toothpaste at all or any other supplies, he can scrape his teeth with his finger. Rinse well!

If out in the woods, like when they’re on their way to Wellwood, is a green twig. The fibers of the twig, after chewing on it for a bit, are gentle and great for scraping. This method can be seen on shows like Survivor.

References (Brothers Lost!)

Since I started getting commissions of my stories, I’ve been slowly compiling a bunch of references to use for these commissions. This new post will cover Sam and Dean both from Brothers Lost:

Before the curse, Dean made Sam a knife for protection. What he rarely mentions in Brothers Apart, at least up until he starts carrying the knife with him in The Schism of Fire and Water, is that he made a knife for himself. So both brothers in Brothers Lost are ready to fight to defend themselves, and they mean business. Don’t let their size deceive you.

Climbing is an essential skill for survival for both of these brothers, and they took advantage of Dean’s budding ability to search out what he needs to find these two. Sam’s was in an obvious area of the room (for them), dropped right in the closet. Dean found his own single prong hook mixed in with miscellaneous trash the fisherman left behind in his room. Without Dean’s knack, they would have overlooked the little silver glint in their hurry to leave when a maid arrived.

Walt made each brother their own bag out of leather. While Sam accepted the bag he was given without issue, Walt ended up making Dean a duffel bag just like he’d had as a kid, before the curse.

May 16th excerpt:

Jacob got into the huge, shining black 1967 Impala parked at the curb, settling onto the bench seat with a sigh. The key was in the ignition before he glanced down at his pocket with a grin. “Back on the road again,” he announced, before turning the key with a roar of the engine.

The flap of the pocket shifted, and Sam was the first one out. Normally, the brothers would already be on Jacob’s shoulder, or hiding in a hoodie to keep out of sight from Mariana. There was no way to know her reaction to finding out that tiny people were real, and with Mike being a cop, the brothers chose to avoid any situations that might result in discovery. He seemed like a nice enough man, but if the police discovered littles, people everywhere could be put in danger.

“Shotgun!” Sam shouted, off like a shot. Dean was left behind in the dust, and Sam used the thick threads of Jacob’s shirt to climb his way over to the right shoulder.

Dean hauled himself up, nowhere near as fast. “Dammit,” he huffed. “That’s my spot.”

Good question!

It actually gives me a chance to point out (maybe for the first time…?) that anyone who gets hit by the curse actually gets a huge strength boost. If we put a curse victim next to a regular human, side-by-side, the victim can haul them around like it’s child’s play. This helps their climbing skills, and helps them blend in with the others their size who are more adjusted to the trials of living at less than four inches in height.

With BL, this AU has both brothers living at the same size for their entire lives. This didn’t even happen in canon, with the way Sam took off to go to college. So here, they’ve lived and worked together for survival since the very beginning. There isn’t much question between them who does what, and all their trips for supplies are planned out and done by instinct. That doesn’t mean they won’t joke around; when Dean’s taking too long climbing up, Sam has a habit of grabbing his older brother by his jacket collar and hauling him up… kicking all the way.

True! Dean can be heavy-handed when either the situation calls for it or when he’s hot-headed and raring for a fight.

The difference here is if he does roughhouse with Sam, he could do permanent damage to his little brother, and put an end to what trust they’ve managed to scrape together. That said, I highly doubt Dean will ever win a fight in this method. The relationship between them is different in my AU than what’s on the Supernatural TV show.

On the other hand, Dean has absolutely no problem using his size against his enemies. Even Bowman, at first, had to deal with a harsher Dean than Sam anytime.

Future snippet to illustrate this:

“It wasn’t an offer,” Dean said simply. The defiant stance had no effect on his determination. “And if you don’t, you’ll just have to deal with the consequences. Simple as that.”

With a painful slowness, he curled the fingers of his hand inwards, boxing the man in. The little guy’s eyes widened and he tried to push himself away from the advancing wall. But his hands were small against even Dean’s fingertips, unable to hold them back.

Dean didn’t stop there. In short order, there was no sign that he had another human in his hand. All that was visible was Dean’s fist and the ring on his finger. The guy was completely clenched inside.

“Fuck! Let me out! ” the man bellowed, seething with the knowledge that a lot of his volume was lost to the prison encased around him. He writhed as much as he could in the extremely tight space, which didn’t say much. His arms were pinned at awkward angles to his chest and his legs could hardly move at all. Dean’s ring dug into his side mercilessly every time he shifted.

Without warning, Dean flipped his hand upside down so all that was holding the guy from dashing to the ground was Dean’s curled fingers. “This is a classic case of ‘be careful what you wish for,’ ” Dean said with a grin. His fingers loosened up a little so that the guy would be able to see the ground down below through the cracks.

With the constant struggles, Dean waited patiently until one of the man’s small legs happened into the space between his index finger and thumb. Seizing the moment, his finger pinned the leg against his thumb…

And Dean opened his hand.

May 15th excerpt:

Walking along Jacob’s finger like a balance beam, Sam stopped when he reached the center of the broad palm. There was more than enough room for Dean to join him, as they’d found when both brothers fell asleep there. It was bigger than Sam’s old bed in Trails West, or Dean’s nest of fabric that continued to wait for them in his old home, if they ever managed to return.

Ah, I missed that it was a prompt.

Nevertheless, it’s not a prompt I’d do with the brothers. Like I said, Sam’s not skilled with sewing in my ‘verse. If Dean saw Mallory or Krissy at work with a needle, he would be in awe, and the same goes for Oscar, who has his own set of sewing supplies. Sam, however, is more likely to make a mess of things while Dean, despite his thread being closer to yarn for Sam, might have a chance of fixing it. It’s just like fixing up doll clothing, which isn’t impossible, especially for a man used to working with intricate equipment and crafting his own weapons.

If Dean saw Sam working in his journal, on the other hand, he’d be awed by the tiny writing that must be microscopic compared to him. He won’t be able to believe how precise Sam’s writing is.

Welcome to the family! It’s so great to hear from a new reader! *hugs*

Really, I’ve loved stories like this since I was a wee kiddo. The Borrowers, Thumbelina, Tom Thumb and anything like them were some of my favorite movies and it was always a laugh if anyone got shrunk in an episode of a TV show. I’ve kept that love with me for ages, and after I discovered Supernatural, I decided to just go with it!

After that, the story just took on a life of its own and I don’t know if we can ever stop…

Plenty, plenty more fun on the way!

Truthfully, between the brothers, Dean is actually the one with any ounce of sewing skills. Mallory always took care of it for her tall boys, and Krissy helped get Sam a few new sets of clothing when he was last at Trails West.

On the other hand, Dean dealt with being a hunter on his own for years before he met back up with Sam. Clothing rarely comes with the number of pockets he uses, and he has to repair his clothing a lot from being on the job. Bobby was sure to make sure a young Dean knew his way about a needle, both with clothing and skin, while he was growing up, and no matter how much Dean bitched about it.
