G/T Prompts Day 8

8. Jar – Stan has a wake-up call.

AU: ???

Stan couldn’t breathe.

He thought seeing the world from only a few inches tall had been amazing, and after he climbed down his bedspread to the floor, he was all set on exploring the alien landscape his bedroom had become.

Then the ground, the very air, everything began to shake. Steady vibrations rattled the floor under Stan’s feet and froze him in place. Sharp impacts on the massive shut door made him flinch, and he clapped his hands over his ears as a tremendous voice rumbled through it.

Panic rose within the teen as it sank in. Someone was looking for him, and they were enormous.

His imagination took it from there, disregarding the logic that whoever it was out there was one of Stan’s brothers, his family. Instead, Stan was paralyzed by images of giants as they’d always been portrayed in films and stories, vicious creatures who meant harm to those smaller than them.

These overwhelming fears came to a head when he saw the door open ever so slightly, and Stan jumped behind the nearest thing to hide, hardly noticing that it happened to be a discarded shoe that was now taller than he was.

Stan’s heart pounded too loudly in his ears to process what the giant was saying, but he certainly felt the wave of displaced air when the door swung open, the earth-shattering footsteps that followed. Humongous feet stomped closer and swung right past Stan’s hiding spot in only a handful of steps.

A hand shot up to cover Stan’s mouth, quieting his heavy breathing and stifling the dread-filled cries he could feel creeping up his throat. The giant’s feet were right there and Stan was completely exposed, it could notice him at any moment! He needed to find a new hiding spot, and he glanced around the corner of the shoe to find one.

If he could just made it under the dresser in the distance…

OK here we go. Stan is a borrower and has been all his life. Someone caught him, decided that because he was small he had no rights, and sold him to someone in America. Then, Sam and Dean get wind of this shady operation and bust the joint, rescuing wee Stan. Obviously he doesn’t trust them at first because hello, huge humans, but they try. Though they are probably needlessly grabby at the very first unless Bobby was the one who sent them in which case he’d’ve warned them, “No grabbing! U scary”

Nice! Stan definitely gets shipped off and sold in America, but Sam and Dean didn’t really expect to find him when they were on a case… he was more of a little bonus XD

This is the way things will go down for the unlucky leprachaun lookalike in the newest AU, Brothers Chosen!

We’ll start putting excerpts up for it after #adod is done posting.

“Hey!” Dean blurted. The sight of the kid running away reminded him of the fight, and the knowledge that they were in the house of a witch.

They couldn’t take anything at face value.

“Get back here!”

Pushing himself up to a squat, Dean dove for the tiny person running from him, instincts screaming that he couldn’t let the guy get away. For all they knew, this guy was just as dangerous as the witch, and if he got under cover, they might not find him again short of burning down the house.

Sam tended to frown on such extreme measures.

Stan flinched again at the hunter’s booming voice and the vibrations through the floor as he moved, but he kept running. He only dared look when a shadow suddenly enveloped him, and he glanced back to find one of those humongous hands surrounding his entire body before he could cry out.

The little guy instantly curled into a ball, not wanting any of his limbs to get pinched between any of those massive digits, each as long as Stan was tall– likely longer! He let out a whimper as he braced himself for death by crushing. All it would take was a squeeze of the hunter’s hand, and Stan would cease to be.

A bit of the tension in Dean bled away as his hand closed around the tiny figure. His fingers sealed closed into a fist, and he was already going to stand up as he lifted his hand up from the ground.

The tiny guy inside weighed almost nothing, and didn’t put up a fight or even struggle as Dean lifted his hand up. If he didn’t feel the tiny guy in there, balled up in his fist, he wouldn’t believe he existed.

Then, there was no time to wonder at the tiny oddity he’d discovered. He heard a grunt from Sam and sprang into action. Sweeping the discarded knife from the floor, Dean heedlessly threw himself back at the fight, dropping the tiny person into one of the side pockets of his leather jacket and promptly forgetting him in lieu of the witch.

From this list of uncommon OC questions.

1. What is the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do?

I give him three days, tops, and that’s generous. He’s a very action-oriented person, always needs to busy himself somehow. Poor Nathan would have a very anxious Stan bugging him for something to do, he’s fallen down too many YouTube rabbit holes and is going a little nuts.

4. How easy is it to earn their trust?

Stan’s optimistic and likes to hope for the best in people, but he’s also good at reading them. The second he senses ill intent in someone, it’ll take a lot of proof to win trust back.

11. How do they cope with confusion? (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc.)

Stan is not ashamed to ask questions when he doesn’t understand something. Only if a situation were short on time would he skip the crash course and just roll with what he knows and sees.

12. How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach?

Begs Nate to scratch it or finds anything remotely resembling a backscratcher.

18. What embarrasses them?

His own shortcomings, mostly. He’s highly critical of himself, but he keeps a lot of that inside. When he does make a mistake, he’ll go through self-flagellation before reverting to humor and eventually moving on with his life. Depends on the mistake.

Of course, Nathan can always find a way to make him turn bright red.

A. Why are you excited about this character?

Of the characters I’ve built over the years I’ve been writing, Stan is the only one that has taken me completely by surprise. I didn’t plan him as more than a passing character, yet he emerged. I continue to learn about him as I go, whereas with my other characters I carefully plan out their backstories beforehand. It’s an interesting experience, to be sure, and I can’t wait to see where he takes me.

Thanks again to @nightmares06 for asking and waiting patiently for my answer!

Feel free to send me more questions from this list if you’re curious about my OCs

In response to Jessica’s gif of Stan… mY BEAUTIFUL GAY BABY OMFG nightmare, moga you better keep this one safe or I swear. He’s almost as innocent as Jacob (tho none can compare in innocence to the adorable Oscar) and those are to remain protected™ (tho all of them are cheeky little bastards when they aren’t kids bUT THATS NOT THE POINT HERE) ;-; look what you’ve done to me

@borrowedtimeandspace – Hiya! Stan is actually mine, but I can see how it’d be easy to get that mixed up given how often we poke artists like @mogadeer for visual representations of the boy. Her version is cute, and it’s hard to dispute how adorable the gif with the mousie is x3

ProtectStanProtectingMousies2kever

@nightmares06– I have no idea what you’re talking about, keeping characters “safe.”

@neonthewrite – Not gonna lie, the gif of Stan with the mousie makes me think of Oscar a little bit too because he is an honorary mousie himself (part of where his innocent factor comes from, really). I agree, protect all these cuties 2kever (I say, while I plan the next Sad Oscar installment).

From what I know of Stan, there are so so many more reasons to love him besides the fact that he’s gay, and I think it’s important to remember that it doesn’t define him! Just like Jacob being asexual isn’t the reason he has fans too.
