I started wondering, what would happen if A Lich of Sense/Bothering Bowman took place in Faedell (my own fictional forest filled with tiny winged magical beings) instead of Wellwood? Fun idea, so I wrote out an outline. It HEAVILY parallels the original two, of course. But I realized that it also kinda feels like I’m just replacing Bowman with a fairy. Especially since I decided it would be more fun with Jacob there. And that wasn’t my intent, I love Bowman, but that’s how it kinda looks now.

Bowman might bop if anyone tries replacing him!

Just try not to imply that you’re replacing neon’s characters in the stories, she’s sensitive about that subject, no matter how many times we tell her she’s here to stay.

The forest you have sounds like an interesting place! I’d be interested in seeing what you came up with from that story idea!

@nightmares06

I’m rereading Brothers Apart, for the millionth time, and I was wondering what would have happened if Bowman didn’t end up saving Sam from getting bitten by the spider? If Bowman and Dean were having to work together without Sam or with a very injured Sam, how would that have worked out?

Dean would desperately work to save Sam, and all thoughts of the case would be thrown out if he saw his little brother in such a bad position. He’d try and get Bowman to help him, his little brother is hurt, what if he dies…

Bowman, on the other hand, would be quite willing to help (which is why he shoved Sam away from the spider in the first place), but if he’s got a very intense and possibly accusing Dean on his case he might get flustered. He knows some of the right plants to help with a bite, but in the end his skill isn’t enough to do much healing so Sam would have to wait it out. At this stage, there’s no way Bowman could trust Dean enough to bring him to the village.

Remember Bothering Bowman, when Dean and Bowman argued in actual circles? It’s just how they make friends when there’s no Sam providing mediation.

Will Jacob (cursed or not) or Bowman show up in Brothers Consulted?

Hmm! How can I answer this and not give anything away?

It might be pretty hard to get Bowman away from his forest, and how would Jacob end up over in London? Would they find him? Does he call them biscuits or cookies?

These are important questions!

Brief shoutout, if you’re a fan of Bowman Leafwing, my two cowriters are working on a story for him to run into the Doctor from Doctor Who! Give this sneak peek a chance if you’re interested– Borrowed Magic

How about a smol jacob and bowman? Maybe in Brothers adopted or something

Smol Jacob will definitely meet his winged bestie in the future, even if they don’t know they’re destined to be buddies at the time!

“Hey,” Sam said softly, keeping his voice down to avoid waking either of the humans sleeping close by. He crept forward, getting close enough for Bowman to see them clearly in the light of the dying flames and held out his hands. It was a gesture he’d seen Dean do many times before, to prove he meant no harm.

It wouldn’t work for the hunter in this situation, with his hands alone a threat to the small sprite, but for Sam it should suffice.

“My name’s Sam, and this is my brother Jacob,” he introduced. “We were hoping to talk to you.”

Jacob nodded in agreement. “Just a talk. No humans listening in. Sound alright?”

Bowman stared between them as he contemplated. Finally, his wings relaxed and stopped crowding the glass walls around him. His shoulders slumped and his exhaustion from a stressful day became more obvious. “You … you two live in that one’s pocket,” he said, gesturing at Dean. “Why would you wanna stay in there?”

Is this from “For Science”?!

You see right through us!

It is indeed from the ill-fated beginning of the third season of Brothers Apart, For Science!

Bowman rubbed at his eyes and leaned forward, clinging to the bars of his own cage. He frowned out, squinting. It had to be a trick of perspective. It had to be. Bowman’s heart did flips even as he told himself that, because what he was seeing was wrong.

The shaky pool of light emanating from the flashlight Dean held didn’t lie. Bowman just couldn’t understand how this had happened.

“Dean … Dean, why in the Spirit’s Dance does it look like you’re sprite-sized right now?!”

What would be Jacob’s and Bowman’s reaction to a butterfly sitting on Jacob’s nose? I just came back from a trip and a butterfly sat on my face and I couldn’t help but think of those two dorks By the way I love your stories, your great!

Thank you so much! We love that you love the stories and I am super glad you thought of my dorks after your magical encounter.

Jacob would be the most surprised about it, I bet. Butterflies usually avoid humans (or anything really), so to have one land on him would catch him off guard. He might balk and then freeze, all crosseyed, and Bowman would have to look back and see why his giant went silent. Of course, he’d have a laugh about the way he looked with a butterfly chilling on his face.

Rischa would be especially proud of Jacob for being calm enough for the butterfly to trust him. She’s pretty fond of those fluttery friends.

What would happen if you got Bowman and Nixie together? I know Bowman is already skeptical about her being a sprite from his conversation with Sam in A Lich of Sense…

Nixie would be amused by her volatile, younger cousin. She might not be connected to the sprites that the Earth Spirit created, but she would treat them as she would any other sprite. She would love to see the village, and is especially fond of forests and streams.

I can see her and Rischa getting along great, sharing experiences about their empathy abilities. Rischa would love to get some tips from Nixie about how to handle it, especially if people are feeling a lot of really strong emotions.

Bowman, meanwhile, would be baffled and wary of this new sprite. She definitely doesn’t look like what he’d expect a water sprite to look like. Rischa why are you being so friendly with her. What if she’s dangerous.

Bowman of Wellwood Excerpt

neonthewrite:

Light peeked under the hat. Bowman’s
eyes widened as the side slowly lifted, and he pondered diving underneath to
escape. A huge hand snaked its way under the brim and his nerves shattered.
Fingers the size of his body fished in the dirt, looking for him. Bowman tried to evade them, but
soon enough one of the giant fingertips brushed his arm.

A fearful squeak formed in his throat as
he tried to sidle around the hand only for a giant finger and thumb to pinch
the front of his shirt. He twisted away, but that grasp dragged him forward
several irresistible steps before the whole hand lunged forward and clamped
around him.

The skin was much thicker than his, to
say nothing about the strength of the grip coiled around him. Air fled Bowman’s
lungs and the hand dragged him out of his prison at last. It engulfed his body
from the waist down, with one arm pinned to his side. Bowman felt the human’s
slow pulse, heavy and powerful compared to his own, and heat radiated all
around him.

He squirmed with every ounce of strength he
had, and his wings twitched with him. He pushed as hard as he could on the
giant’s thumb as it lifted him up. The huge face loomed close, and Bowman did
what he could to ignore it.

By the time the giant was back at its
full height, panic had settled around Bowman’s heart like a cage. The giant
stared awkwardly at him, and he trembled every time he glanced up at those
enormous brown eyes. His attempts to escape didn’t bother his captor at all.

With no other options, Bowman let a
desperate impulse drive his actions. He leaned forward and sank his teeth into
the giant’s finger. The thick skin resisted his effort at first, and then his
sharpest teeth broke through just enough. A faint taste of copper came just
before the giant dropped him.

He fell like a stone, taking a deep
breath with newly freed lungs. Then, his wings snapped open and he leveled off
in the air. He hurtled towards the edge of the clearing with his wings blurring
in the night air to bank upwards.

No giant would catch Bowman Leafwing when he was flying.
