Hah, it’s true! The wood sprites of Wellwood are all vegetarians. Interestingly enough, when Sam arrived, one of the first things the sprites did was see what their Archives had on humans. They discovered there that humans do eat meat, and then came an unbearably awkward conversation with Sam. It was hard to figure out how to bring it up with him, but it was kind of important that they know … would a human eat a sprite? And did they need to figure out a way to get meat for him, or could he survive without it?

Thankfully they could smooth that over after many perplexed looks and probably lots of cringing.

Sam grew up with a sprite diet, since it would be hard for them to get meat for him. It worked out well, because the food was all extremely healthy and helped him grow into a strong young knight!

Spritely Sam

Everyone’s been wondering what Sam Winchester, a knight of Wellwood looks like, so here he is!

Sam’s clothing in Brothers Asunder is all sprite made (with a few differences, seeing as he doesn’t have to accommodate wings). Generally, that means soft, earthy-colored cotton clothes of simple design. His shirts would mostly be simple brown or green garments – sprites don’t do buttons.

His pants are sturdy and breathable, and some are decorated with vine-like patterns at the side seams. They are tucked into knee-high boots. The boots lace up at the front and are more supple than heavy, lending themselves perfectly to dexterous movement.

Sam wears a long-sleeved jacket cut to about mid-thigh. It is, like most sprite garments, simple in design, lacking a lapel or even anything to fasten it shut. The grass-green jacket with elegant patterning at the hem is the uniform for a Knight of Wellwood. Most of the knights’ jackets have slits up the back for their wings but Sam’s does not need them. Even so, he wears his sword belt around the jacket like they do.

He’s made some minor modifications to his jacket. Among these are a hidden inner pocket for his quintessential knife, made for him by Dean before he was cursed and thus one of his most cherished possessions. Sam is the only knight who carries a knife in addition to the rapiers they all carry.

One thing I’ve found in Supernatural is that, no matter what, these brothers find their way back to each other. No matter how much the odds are stacked against them, they are meant to be in the Impala, on their way to the next hunt.

Fate can only keep them apart for so long.

“Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll…” (Skyrim, friends, we’re referencing Skyrim like big TES nerds)

Flowerkin is actually neither an insult nor another species, though in the recent excerpt Sam is using it to tease Bowman (Actual tease –

Bowman is still a dainty flowerkin like always. He didn’t even get a bruise on his wings.”). It is simply a word wood sprites use to describe particularly dainty wood sprites (which is saying something because they’re all kind of willowy and thin thanks to their metabolisms). In my sprite lore, flowerkin wood sprites are responsible for the popular artistic depiction of fairies wearing flower petals and such.

For example, here is a wood sprite character that I have developed who would be considered very flowerkin:

This little lady has yet to show up in any of my stories, but she will (someday… when I get around to it).

Thank you for your words of support!

It was hard, but my editor and I had vastly differing opinions on things, and because of that we’d argue about them and I discovered that when this happened, any desire to write would vanish like it was never there. So, I cut things off completely for myself, and I know they probably see things differently. I was tired of dealing with writer’s block constantly, and being talked about behind my back for ‘not listening’ about stuff to put for my own damn story, and it was for my own sanity.

Now, I’ve got three different editors, depending on which series is being worked on at the time.

The other series are not yet ready for editing, and when they are we’ll have one of our loyal editors take a look at them. Because it was posted as we wrote it, Brothers Together has no editor and each part is posted as-is.

Brothers Apart won’t ever be abandoned, that’s for sure, but once A Lich of Sense is finished posting we’ll let one of the other AU’s shine in order to let me have time to work on the future stories. Don’t worry at all, anyone, all AU’s have my ‘verse style brothers, just in different interaction types, like Brothers Lost, where they are both smol (and I love them so)

Sorry about that!

As much as I love Archive for its ability to group stories by series, it also mashes everything together if you search by works. On my deviantart page, I’ve actually crafted a listing in order, so you know where each story goes. Found here.

Also, if you go to the Brothers Apart tumblr on an actual web browser, not the app, my lovely cowriter @neonthewrite took the time to put a place for all the stories.

The Stories link will take you to a page that has all the stories listed, and you can toggle between AUs and prompts, and there’s a section with all the upcoming sneak peeks as well. Currently, only Brothers Apart and Brothers Together are listed because the other AUs haven’t been released. This isn’t because we don’t want to! I just can’t physically manage more than three weekly updates. Soon, the other AUs will appear there as they are posted. We honestly can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks.

Daily excerpts are not meant to be confusing, and they aren’t meant to go with any of the stories that are posted. Those are simply a way for everyone to see what we’re working on currently. It’s little snippets from our daily writing, geared to avoid spoilers but letting people know we’re hard at work. So far, we’ve had excerpts from Brothers Lost and Brothers Asunder, both series that have not yet been released.

Read all daily excerpts from the beginning here.
