Brothers Sought reveal

myimaginedairybeard asked:

So, from what I gathered – The AU takes place two years earlier than when Jacob was cursed in Brothers Adopted. Meaning, Dean’s 22, Sam’s 18 and Jacob’s 13.

After arriving at Trial’s West, Jacob was cursed by Celeste, but he’s mom found him and saved him. Which means that Jake never met Sam or any of the other smaller residents who call the motel their home. Anyway, Dean somehow hears about this case of an attack and a disappearance of of a kid, and it just so happens it took place just so happens it took place in Trial’s West.

So Dean starts to really dig into the case (which is suspiciously similar to what happened to Sammy years before) and somehow finds out that the victim, Jake, was actually shrunk (I still don’t get how he figured it out though. in the sneak peaks he said something like “the news weren’t kidding about you, were they?” so I figured he knew, but there’s no way a case of a shrunken kid would show up on news, so he must have found some clues or something…I really don’t know), so he decides to “borrow” him for a while, until the case is over or something like that.

They arrive at Trial’s West only to encounter a smol stranger (Sammy to the rescue :D), who I’ll take probably got caught by Dean after attempting to save Jake. After things got more or less calm(ish), they question him about the case- if he knew of any disappearances that have accrued in the motel (referring to Sam, which just so happens to be the exact guy they’re questioning).

I’m gonna guess that that this au will be kinda like brothers together, only instead of Sam being shrunk and saved-Jacob’s shrunken and saved by his mom (Sam was cursed too, but unlike Jacob, he wasn’t saved in this au), and instead of Oz, the experienced borrower, teaching the recently shrunken human, Sammy, how deal with his new size-Sam’s the one who’s teaching the recently shrunken Jake! My guess for Something Borrowed :3

We’re both impressed! We didn’t think anyone would guess this!

This is why we hid the AU name for the story, because it gives away Dean’s true intentions, and the reason he ‘borrows’ Jacob.

Runners up for the AU name was Brothers Borrowed, but instead, we present…

Brothers Sought!

We’ll keep the reasons Dean discovered Jacob’s existence under wraps… for now 😉

“My brother vanished at that motel when we were kids,” Dean said, finally letting out the secret he’d hidden away in his heart. “And if this is the same thing… you might be able to help me find him.”

Jacob made sure he sat right in the center of Dean’s palm again, ever wary of the edge. It was a habit he needed to keep, always, at this size. The world was dangerous for him like this.

He almost didn’t want to accept that someone else might be going through the same thing.

“Your brother,” he echoed, in a cautious voice. From looking at the guy, he was still pretty young, but hadn’t been a kid in a while. Years. If this wild hunch was correct, someone had been shrunk down to Jacob’s size years ago, and hadn’t been found like Jacob had. The thought made him go pale.

“Uh. Maybe. I’m not sure how I’d… okay,” he stammered, rubbing self consciously at his neck. The thought of dealing with all of this alone, for so long, broke any chance of focusing. “I– I guess it kinda makes sense. Sure. If I can find him, I’ll … help.”

It kinda looks as if BC Dean is even MORE afraid of heights than the one in BL. Is this because of the airplane? I mean, we have bad Oscar had dealt with it in the Sad Oscar au (SAVE HIM °^°) speaking of oz, the Sad Oscar au was the first time/au Oz had used his Pyrokinesis knack (you once said that if he had a knack this would be it. And cooling off a burning hot metal seems to fit that title of fire power), so does that mean we’re going to see it soon enough in other aus as well?

@nightmares06

Oh wow, this ask went in a few unexpected directions on its way to the end!

I’ll leave the Oscar stuff to neon 😉

Dean in Brothers Consulted is absolutely more afraid of heights and flying than his Lost or canon SPN counterparts. It went from a basic phobia to a full-fledged PTSD.

He’s coming to terms with hitching a ride on Sherlock’s shoulder, with the help of the scarf for support and to help hide the surroundings, but he’s not good when it comes to getting picked up and lifted without warning.

Given time, he’ll get through those reactions, but planes. PLANES. He’s never going to be able to ride an airplane without a full-blown panic reaction, hyperventilating and losing sight of if he’s with friends or enemies.

That plane ride happened when they were kids, they were trapped in a box, the entire world rattled around them for a full 10 hours before disembarking in a place where Dean had never been. Any fear of heights he ever had amped up several levels higher.

The saddest part is Dean wouldn’t fully realize this until he’s on a plane and it turns on, because it’s triggered by the sounds more than the sights.

@neonwrite

I am so pleased that you noticed that detail! It wasn’t a very obvious moment, but you are correct that Oscar’s pyrokinesis knack activated in the Sad Oscar AU when he was being branded (which is why even he didn’t realize it – he was far too busy being upset and terrified and in pain). Now that we know Sad Oscar AU is actually Brothers Consulted, we might just see how he eventually further develops that ability! 😉 Dean’s gonna be so jealous.

As for other AUs, I’m always looking for opportunities to give him a reason for his knack to appear. Since he was born a wee borrower, it will only show up if he has a true need for it, and a need for the ability to manipulate fire doesn’t come along often. But don’t think we’re above stressing the little guy out with some fire someday!

How do Dean’s “big brother instincts” change from when he’s big and Sam’s little, to the opposite, and to when they’re both little? To clarify, as the literal bigger brother, I’ve noticed that he spends much of his time having to be so careful over every single action and his over protective side often makes him full of guilt and regret and it makes me wonder how that translates in the different situations.

Oh man. The way Dean’s big brother instincts change in the AUs is always so fun.

Big Dean and tiny Sam (’canon’ Brothers Apart):

Tries to big brother Sam. Discovers Sam values independence. Attempts to back down and totally fails. Sam lets Dean big brother him, all while amused at how much effort Dean’s putting into all this.

Big Sam and tiny Dean (Brothers Saved):

Fusses over his kid brother growing up. Will fight if anyone ever dismisses Sam in front of him. Only stands up to their dad if it’s Sam he’s standing up for. Sam will knock anyone’s lights out if they try and stop Dean from big brothering. Do not try to shush his big brother, thanks very much.

Tiny bros together:

Mess with Sam and Dean will absolutely do anything to protect him. If he can’t reach Sam or is completely helpless (IE how Jacob first met Sam in Lost), Dean will attempt to bargain himself away if only to save his little brother. Fairly close to canon Dean in reactions.

This might have been mentioned before but: Are there any au’s where the regular sized brothers find a tiny Jacob?

I think we got the question before, but it’s been a while!

We do have a storyline in mind for a tiny Jacob to meet up with canon Sam and Dean, we just haven’t had the opportunity to write it down as of this time. So, it’s in the works, along with quite a few others!

Tiny Jacob is just too much of a cutie to not put with everyone possible >w>

The Road to Nowhere reveal

enby-phoenix asked:

THERE’S BOTH??

(In response to this post)

There’s BOTH! The season finale for Brothers Lost will be a RIDE!

And this isn’t even like, half of what’s going on in the story

Dean forced open the pocket, snaking two fingers in to pry out the people in there. His plan went awry when a bolt of pain struck. “OW!”

Snatching his hand back, Dean stared at the thin trail of blood leaking from a cut that hadn’t been there moments before. “Son of a…”

“Dean!” Sam snapped. “It’s just a cut.”

Nodding, Dean went back, this time moving too fast for an attack, and yanking the occupants of Jacob’s pocket out.

In a sprawl of arms and legs, the small pair that had been hiding inside landed on Dean’s palm. A glint of metal flashed, and Dean pinned the tiny knife between two fingers, aiming to avoid anymore retaliatory strikes at his fingers.

The guy that wielded the knife didn’t let it go without a fight. Squirming to free himself from the pile with the second, he clung to the hilt with a death-grip.

“Get fucked!” he shouted, digging his heels into the cushion of skin on Dean’s palm.

Dean stared.

The guy hanging onto the knife might as well be his doppelganger.

Jeans, boots, leather jacket and duffel bag, the guy couldn’t be more than four inches in height. Taller than both of the others they’d found earlier, what stood out the most was his spike of blond hair and the scowl on his face that was a mirror of Dean’s own.

The tiny mirror of Dean had such a strong grip on the knife hilt that he was dragged into the air when Dean tried to twist it away from him. The second person, who Dean shouldn’t have been so surprised to see the fluffy dark hair and familiar hazel eyes of his younger brother on, dove for the first guy’s legs, grabbing on and trying to lend weight to the tug-of-war between the two.

Sam’s voice broke the spell that had fallen over Dean.

“What. The hell.”

Brothers Lost Sneak Peek

enby-phoenix asked:

Huh. So in The Road to Nowhere, there are regular sized Winchesters? Even though they’re small for the rest of Brothers Lost?

Regular-sized Winchesters? Where?! I must have missed them!

I only see smol Winchesters over here…

Dean burst into the motel room.

“Jacob!” he shouted, searching for the teenager. “We’ve got a problem!”

The sharp concern in the small voice drew Jacob’s attention more than the words did. From across the room, even a shout from one of the smaller folk could be lost in the open air until their words melted together. The tone was more than enough for him to forget the salt line in progress by the window as he whirled around.

After so many months hunting with the downsized Winchester brothers, he was familiar with the routine. From setting up their room under the nightstand shelf (he’d had to clear out some cobwebs this time) to lining all entrances with salt, the room was ready to be a hunter’s home base. Including hunters that would fit in his pockets; Jacob had tried since he met them to remember their size and accommodate it.

That worry in Dean’s voice set off all the alarm bells he needed to switch gears. He didn’t have quite the same version of “hunter mode” as the brothers did, with their years of teamwork and training, but he was getting there. The salt was abandoned as he scanned the floor before taking the brisk steps over to where Dean was running.

He wouldn’t be running out to the middle of the floor like that if it wasn’t an emergency. Even with all the trust Jacob had worked to earn, that wasn’t safe.

Anticipating Dean’s plan, he knelt down and held out a hand with his fingers acting as an easy ramp to his palm. “What happened?” His voice was serious as he glanced at the opening Dean had all but jumped out of. Jacob could barely see it, but it was a doorway into the walls of the motel. Twisting black corridors filled with dust and dangers that the brothers knew well.

Things were off if Sam and Dean didn’t emerge together. “This the only entrance?”

Dean didn’t pause in his run until he’d dashed straight onto Jacob’s hand, motioning for the teenager to lift it off the ground.

Not bothering to hide how winded he was after the run through the walls, Dean surveyed the room from his high perch. “Didn’t see any others,” he said in a rush. “Sam won’t know another, and he’s got a rat on his tail. He’ll need backup.”

What are some cute headcannons for Brothers Discovered

Well, we’re not really the ones to give out headcanons, because anything we come up with is most likely to end up canon, since we’ll be the ones writing it! But for cute things… I imagine Sam will get all huffy when it comes time to move (he still hates moving around!) and what is John to do with this kid that just throws himself on his bed and dares them to move him?

Commence Dean throwing himself into the situation, talking about how he’s going to be using Sam’s bed from now on since Sam won’t need it if he’s staying here, and Sam just getting so offended by it.

Does anyone have a headcanon for Brothers Discovered? We’d love to hear what you guys think for these cuties!

This is the last time we’ll be able to share any of our own headcanons, since when we come up with them, they don’t stay headcanons long! But we encourage everyone else to come up with ideas for them!

Unnamed Sad Oscar AU guessed!

myimaginedairybeard asked:

Does the unnamed Sad Oscar AU takes place in Brothers Consulted?

Oh gosh. You’re the first person to guess that!

The unnamed Sad Oscar AU is indeed secretly a part of Brothers Consulted. At some point during the writing of it, my cowriters couldn’t stand it any longer, and through nudges and some Upset conversations, it was decided that he needed a rescue in Brothers Consulted. So that “The End?” on the last installment was a red herring! It’s not truly the end of the Sad Oscar AU. Everything after that, well, it involves a Plot from Brothers Consulted that you will all have to wait and see (luckily it got voted in as the next story, so you’ll get closer to being able to guess the answer).

Of course, with BC and Oscar that means he will have to meet the Baker Street crew someday. One thing we have planned for that is an encounter with Sherlock in which the detective, predictably, runs his mouth. He’s going to learn that Oscar’s no “typical” borrower:

“W-well, I can be scared if I want to! I’ve had to do everything by myself since I was seven while all you humans did was take and take, a-and then someone took me and … I’m not a doll, I’m Oscar, and I’ll be nervous around humans all I want!”

The words had barely left his mouth before Oscar’s indignant look transformed into shock. The quietest squeak escaped him and he ducked behind the nearest hiding place he could find. That happened to be Dean.

Story name guessed!

wolfie180g  asked:

Trtn – the road to nowhere?

Ooo, what a great first guess for this! You nailed it!

While Brothers Lost began with The Road Not Taken, their first season will wrap up with The Road to Nowhere– named for a very real place that I once knew (though this story is not placed near the original road to nowhere).

This story will edge towards the Bittersweet Parting style of season ending, instead of the kind of season ending we got with Taken… Take that as you will.

We haven’t gotten around to finishing up our current excerpted stories and moving on to this one because… well… @nightmares06 has plain run out of energy most days, so an excerpt a day has become too much for her, and she’s contemplating other options to continue on with story peeks, so expect news for how it will change soon. The other sneak peeks that come from people guessing our plans or story names/au names won’t change at all, just the daily posts.

Naturally, a correctly guessed story name will net you a peek at this in-progress work!

Sam stared at Dean, and Dean stared back at Sam.

There had been a tiny voice, just at the edge of hearing, but neither of them had made any noise. They were both fully in view, with only the sounds of an empty parking lot accompanying Sam while he emptied the Impala, left for the morning after their late night check-in.

As it sunk in, Sam shut the door behind him and Dean chucked his towel into the bathroom sink, both reacting to a possible threat in the area.

A splash of movement down by the table legs caught Dean’s eyes, and he sidled around the wall, signaling for Sam to take the opposite side.

Sam got into position, and Dean dove his hands at the table leg, aiming to catch the unknown creature in their room.

Ok weird question here, if the boys (Sam, Dean, Jacob, and Bowman) were made to live through and help each other face their worst fear, what would each fear be and how would the others react/help (this would be the absolute worst fear beyond what was already experienced in Jacob in Wonderland.) I was rewatching the episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where they had to experience everyone’s worst nightmare, but nothing that happened was permanent at the end of the day and it made me curious.

  • Sam’s worst fear: Clowns

No matter what size Sam is, his honest-to-God worst fear will always be CLOWNS. He freezes up when he sees them, gets stuck in his head, and certainly isn’t going to like them anymore when he’s only a few inches tall!

(Hint: Do not take Sam to see the new IT movie)

Dean might screw up and tease Sam about it before realizing how serious it still bothers him. Sam might not even come out of the pocket he’s in if they’re around clowns or clown-like objects.

  • Dean’s worst fear: Heights

Unlike Sam, Dean is often forced to confront his fear of heights head-on when he’s cursed. He’s only 3.8 inches tall, everything is high! Including his friends/brother!

Dangling him is a terrible way to tease him, he’ll absolutely freak out and panic, and until he’s adjusted to spending time around giants, he’s leery of how high up a shoulder perch is. Don’t be surprised if you find him plastered to someone’s neck or completely hidden in a collar so he can’t look out. Pockets are welcome.

  • Bowman’s worst fear: Losing his wings

Bowman’s wings are his pride and joy. He’s worked so hard to build his skill and talent with flying, and it’s his ultimate catharsis. There’s almost no bad feeling that can’t be cured by going for a flight. If he lost that, he’d be stuck on the ground, looking up and remembering what he used to have. He’s fussy and meticulous about wing care so this doesn’t happen.

  • Jacob’s worst fear: Forgetting his dad

Jacob is aware that time is healing his grief, and he’s moved on and become the zen guy he is today after the death of his father (he was 8 at the time). However, he wants to keep honoring the man he was, and remembering him is part of that. Jacob is terrified of losing those memories, either by them becoming to hazy over time or by losing sight of himself. His dad inspired much of his current personality.
